UTI questions? sm

Hi all,

I have some questions regarding a (possible) UTI. I have looked on WebMD and other sites as well to get some info regarding my symptoms and think I may have one. I obviously plan on calling my doctor/going to urgent care Monday if I get worse.

Anyway, I took a bubble bath on Wed. Started having irritation on Thurs. Thought it was from the bubble bath as that can happen. Woke up Friday nauseated, peeing alot (once every hour at least), darker yellow urine (also take a B complex and it makes it that color), stronger smell than usual (not cloudy or dark or red), feel bloated like pre-period (not due for AF until April 8th), feel fullness in lower abdomen/bladder area, tender to touch belly button area, feels firm, always feel like I have to pee and is slight irritation/burning but not when I actually go. Drinking cranberry juice and water by the ton, and going alot! I think I have a UTI. (Duh, I know go to the doctor).

Anyway, I have not had one since I was a kid (30 years ago). So I guess my (DUH) question is A) do I have a UTI? and B) could it be early signs of pregnancy? I am nauseated, peeing alot, fullness, not hungry, and boobs are sore. I have been TTC for YEARS and have been unsuccessful. I am on bromocriptine for hormone regulation also and have gotten AF every month regularly (LMP March 18th). Has anyone had UTI symptoms but found it was pregnancy (or both)? I kinda want to take a home preg test but dunno if it's too early as my period is due in a week. Is it possible? I would rather waste the money on an EPT than go to my OB and get a bill for a negative result. I am trying not to get my hopes up b/c I'm used to being infertile (if one can ever be) but I just feel different and have not had a UTI for a long, long time so is this just a fluke or could I be preg? And why am I asking? I really don't know. Only a doc can tell me for sure which one it is, if anything. I guess I just want someone else to tell me that hey I had a UTI but was actually pregnant so it can happen! LOL

It sounds like it could be one of two things...It could possibly be a UTI. (Bubble baths are notorius for vagina yeast infections and UTIs), or it could be a kidney stone. I had the same symptoms when I had my kidney stones. I had just seen the gastro doc for IBS and was put on fiber supplementation. That same night after taking my first dose of the fiber supplement, my stomach blew up and I started having pain in the abdomen and groin region. I thought it was because my body was not used to the fiber. The next day, I had nausea and then I started vomiting and peeing like there was no tomorrow! I thought it was the usual stomach virus, but I had no diarrhea. Then the fevers started (kidney infection). I went to the ER, they did a CT scan and there is was...a 12 mm stone!

If you start getting fevers or if you start vomiting, get yourself to an ER.

and we allow people to bring in a sample to test it and not charge much at all. I would say take in a sample and they can tell u if you need to see the DR,which probably means UTI. Also, if u start hurting any in ur back, or throwing up...Kidney stone is good guess. Good luck!

I admit I self-medicated. Drank nothing but cranberry juice, apple juice, and water for 4 days straight, peed like a banchee (?) and then I seemed fine. No fever, back pain, blood, vomiting, etc. It may have been a fluke. Or just irritation from my bubble bath. Then AF came a week later. Wonderful. Anyway, I will definitely keep a sample next time just in case. Maybe my pipes just needed a good flushing out. Thanks again.

I keep a box of UTI test strips in my bathroom. I think AZO makes them. You just dip them in your urine stream and they will turn color in the presence of nitrite and leukocytes. I'm not positive, but I think these are the same type of strips the doctors' offices use, with one spot on the strip turning pink in the presence of leukocytes and one spot on the strip turning pink in the presence of nitrite. If I get a definite positive for leukocytes, I wait to go to the doctor. If I get a definite positive for nitrite or both nitrite and leukocytes, I go right away. UTIs used to put me in excruciating pain but for some reason these days they are just sort of a nagging pain, so I want to nip them in the bud before I get a kidney infection.

I've had it with ours. We don't get full copies of our filings back and he never files until the very last day if we owe taxes. He e-files through some company. Years ago I loved to make bread and have several favorite recipes. I'm going to give up and get a bread maker. I see they come with recipes, but I cannot tell if you can use your own recipes in them. Been visiting many different sites regarding perimenopause. That is what I have. While I don't have all the systems I do have 95% of them (luckily no hot flashes or night sweats though). What really is getting to me is urinary incontinence. It doesn't matter how much I try and hold it until I can make it to the bathroom, it doesn't work. Does anyone own a toaster oven. Our oven broke and is cheaper to buy a toaster oven than fix ours.
