NovaSure ablation questions

Hi all. I'm having a D and C with NovaSure ablation this week due to very prolonged DUB. I was wondering from those who have had this have you had good results? Did your periods stop completely or are they lessened like they say? Also, afterwards, was there much cramping or discharge/bleeding? Any comments good or bad appreciated. I am just looking forward to getting some relief from my problems. Thanks so much!

I think I had asked my GYN for a hysterectomy before age 40 because of my cycle problems. I changed doctors and had a NS when I was 43. At first it was great! No evidence of flow, but I could tell I still had cycles because my moods changed. Low amount of pain immediately after the procedure.

But I did start to gain weight immediately. Gained 25 pounds the first year. By the end of the 2nd year, I was having constipation and lower abdominal/pelvic pain. Everyone thought it was a return of my colitis, so I spend 8 months trying to find a GI doctor who agreed, but 3 of them told me it was not my GI tract. Finally on my last ER visit due to pain, I was given a Medrol Dosepack and I had a flooding 6-day period, essentially reversing the ablation. During those 8 months, my GYN had refused to do a hysterectomy until my GI problems were under control. After the steroid-induced period, I found out she had fortunately gone out on permanent medical leave (huh?) and I switched GYN. The new GYN listened for 5 mins and told me I need a hysterectomy. My uterus had swollen from hormones and scar tissue and had been acting like a plug that caused the constipation. I had a supracervical hysterectomy with left oophorectomy.

I have felt great since the hysterectomy, but now have 80 pounds of weight to lose and high blood pressure from the weight.

I have always been a patient who falls in that 1% group that if it could go wrong, it will happen to me, so you really should know that for 1000s of women a NS is a wonderful procedure. You should take serious consideration, though, to the low percentage group of things that can go wrong (I didn't).

I have not had a period since that time. There was some very mild cramping for a day or so afterwards but since that time I have had absolutely no problems. For me it was a wonderful experience!!

Not trying to scare you but the only thing that I would recommend is to have this procedure done in the hospital and not in the office, unless your OB/GYN has a crash cart available. One of our local OB/GYNs performed this procedure in the office on another physician's wife and she coded. They did not have a crash cart available in the office but luckily their office was located directly across from the hospital. She did survive thankfully but is now speaking out about having procedures done in the office. She was only 36 when she had the procedure and had no prior history of cardiac problems.

I had a little bit of spotting but no more periods and a very smelly discharge for a month afterwards but it was a total success. I think you will be very pleased with the procedure. Very little cramping after the procedure too.

I had the NovaSure ablation done about 2-1/2 years ago. I never had a period since which has been wonderful. I also did not have much cramping or bleeding/discharge. I am very glad I had the procedure done.

I had the NovaSure done on Fri through outpatient surgery with a spinal; no sedation. Had hysteroscopy and D&C at the same time. Went very well. 13 minutes for entire procedure. Had some mild cramping and backache for a few hours. No bleeding yet, very tiny amount of discharge. I am quite anemic from all of the problems I have had and have been very tired, but I think just from the relief so far, I feel so much better and have been much easier to live with. Thanks for all of your help and advice. I am hoping for the good outcome from this; if not, on to the next step. Again, I appreciate all of your help!

I've had it with ours. We don't get full copies of our filings back and he never files until the very last day if we owe taxes. He e-files through some company. Years ago I loved to make bread and have several favorite recipes. I'm going to give up and get a bread maker. I see they come with recipes, but I cannot tell if you can use your own recipes in them. Been visiting many different sites regarding perimenopause. That is what I have. While I don't have all the systems I do have 95% of them (luckily no hot flashes or night sweats though). What really is getting to me is urinary incontinence. It doesn't matter how much I try and hold it until I can make it to the bathroom, it doesn't work. Does anyone own a toaster oven. Our oven broke and is cheaper to buy a toaster oven than fix ours.
