What is this world coming to? No, not a religious post but (sm)

Posted: Jan 19, 2012

I have been sat here watching Nancy Grace. A 10-year-old boy stabbed and killed his 12-year-old best friend, the 12-year-old was apparently trying to break up a fight or something when it happened and was defending his friend. Now it is learned that the 10-year-old has some sort of psychiatric problem where he "acts out" and has apparently been on all kinds of medications for it, etc., etc.

I was fortunate to raise kids with no ADHD or other problems but I find it so alarming to see so many children on these medications that do goodness knows what to them. I watch these commercials for these meds and they give such alarming warnings and we have children in this country as young as 2 taking them.

Please, please do not misunderstand me, I am not saying that there are not kids out there that have genuine problems and need medications, but I have to wonder also how many are out there and their problems could be solved with simple discipline or even more, love and attention from their parents. We live in such a hectic, crazy, crazy world, I look at children around me sometimes and wonder what their futures will be.

I got off subject a bit but just needed to vent a bit. This case is so very sad from both sides.

It's very sad - I hear you - nm

maybe parents would love to give more love and - attention, however,

They are too busy working to try to pay for the EVER INCREASING costs of food, gas, electric, taxes, and INSURANCE, which by the way, I pay over 12,000 a year for health insurance. That is half my income. The only way around this would be to quit my job, be home to provide the love and attention, and then get the government to pay for my health care.

Crazy World Indeed!

And To Compound All That... - JT

Parents are changing partners like they change their underwear. I'd be willing to bet that this kid has been through the wringer with families splitting up, back together, split again, find someone else, bring different kids into the home (who may already be troubled), etc. It's crazy.

Call me old fashioned, I do not care, but in the olden days at least one of the parents raised the kid/kids. Sure, they both worked. Just different shifts so the kids aren't dumped here, there everywhere with no one set of rules.

And to compound all that... - CaGal

I can certainly testify to the difficulties kids are put through these days with the way their families are. So, I have 1 son who got married, adopted his new wife's daughter from a previous marriage and then they had their own child. They got divorced. He got into a relationship with another woman who had a child from HER previous marriage (and I love him like all my other grandchildren, he's a sweetie.) Okay so they broke up and he found a NEW girlfriend, who has a son from a previous relationship (and demanded that we no longer see the other little boy) and then SHE got pregnant (are you keeping up with this?) All in all I have 5 grandchildren from just this son. Between my son's irresponsibility and that of the women he has chosen, there are a bunch of kids who are feeling pretty adrift, sadly. There is constant drama on who isn't speaking to whom, leaving the kids wondering who is on their side as the parents wrangle to hurt each other as much as possible. Yep, a really bad situation and my heart goes out to kids who have to live through this. No wonder so many of them are angry, IMO.

After Reading The Jesus Is Coming Post And Then Hare Krishna Mantra Post...Apr 21, 2010
I was wondering exactly what kind of "faith" board this is. The poster, Catherine, in the Jesus is Coming thread felt this was the "wrong forum" for posting one's religious beliefs while another posterior in that thread says that this "faith" board is meant to be all inclusive meaning persons of all faiths can post their beliefs here. I guess I wrongly assumed that the use of the word "faith" meant Christianity as it is my belief that Christianity is the only valid belief system worshiping ...

The Post-Ferguson World: Rules For White PeopleDec 22, 2014
Wow ...!  What a headline.  We already have rules for all people.  Don't be a thug criminal or commit crimes and obey law enforcement orders.  If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.  Be a productive and civil member of society, not a low-life miscreant who others have to support in prison for the rest of your life. I was not sure if the political board was the place to post this, but the moderater did move one of my posts to the Gab boad and then p ...

American Atheists filed suit in federal court today on behalf of an Oklahoma family who say their civil rights were violated by the Hardesty, Oklahoma Public Schools and the Texas County, Oklahoma Sheriff’s Department. The Religious Left Jul 31, 2016
We will see a rise of the religious left in this country over the next 100 days, as evidenced by the speech of William Barber at the DNC.  If you missed his mini-sermon, it's posted below.  Well worth the read.   Good evening. my Brothers and Sisters.  I come before you tonight as a preacher, the son of a preacher, a preacher immersed in the movement at five years old. I don't come tonight representing any organization,  ...

Filing suit in Indiana for right to smoke marijuana legally in their church. Under the state’s new Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which took effect July 1, the government must prove it is enforcing a compelling interest in the least restrictive way if a person claims an undue burden on religious liberty. The Church of Cannabis had its first service July 1 but said its members would not use cannabis after law enforcement warned that police would arrest anyone who smoked pot. What ...

Romney continues to support a church that said Blacks were descendants from Cain, a biblical murderer. The Mormon Church would not allow blacks to become priets. Romney will not apologize for the church's prejudice. Still current day Mormons have the portrait of a child rapist on their walls. Ro ...

Posts Regarding Religious DiscussionsSep 12, 2012
I recently took the action to move a post from this board to the faith board and wanted to explain why.  The post in itself was because someone does not agree with the mormon religion and she went on to post her opinions about a religion.  The content of the message was not political, except that it mentioned a politicians name, but nothing about politics itself. If you want to have a discussion about someones religion and what you believe that religion beleives in those coversations ...

How Do You Feel When A Religious PersonJun 04, 2013
I have to say, I don't want anybody knocking on my door without calling first. I take no offense in particular to religious people doing it, but I get more of them than anyone else, so that's why I'm using this forum. I think it is intrusive, whether it's a friend, family, religious person, or someone looking to do lawn work. Just the other day, I was just getting out of the shower when the doorbell rang. It was 1 p.m.  Okay, maybe most people take their showers before ...

Obama's Religious BlindnessFeb 19, 2015
At this week's White House summit on combating violent extremism on social media, all topics are fair game except Islamist extremism. From the administration's point of view, it may as well not even exist, despite the fact that the first I in ISIS and ISIL stands for "Islamic", as in Islamic State. The White House has consistently downplayed, if not outright ignored, the religious dimension of the war on terrorism. This has much to do with President Obama's apparent belief that a ...

Why Religious People Are Scared Of AtheistsJul 13, 2011
Religious believers commonly attack atheists simply for existing. Do out-of-the-closet atheists -- even polite ones -- challenge attempts at theocracy? What, exactly, do religious believers want from atheists? If you follow the atheism debates in op-ed pieces and whatnot, you'll see that critiques of the so-called New Atheist movement are often aimed at our tone. Among the pundits and opinion-makers, atheist writers and activists are typically called out for being offensive, in ...

Why Religious Freedom Laws Like Indiana's Are A Bad Idea For Left AND Right, Christian Or NotApr 01, 2015
Let me first say, again, I strongly believe in protecting civil liberties, but not promoting them. This means regardless of whether I agree or disagree morally, I do NOT agree with extremists, right or left, hellbent on forcing opinion into law. Recently, this has been done by both sides, either by enacting deceptive state law that "pretends" it doesn't discriminate, or by filing deceptive lawsuits that "pretend" they're with whomever refused them, rather than finding the perfect sit ...

I have copied and pasted something someone wrote that pretty much sums up Scott (slime) Walker's intentions.   Diane Ravitch has it in a nutshell. Of Scott Walker, she writes: He expects that over time, most public workers will stop paying dues, especially now that they have to pay more for their healthcare and pension benefits. And thus will he cripple, perhaps permanently, a perennial political opponent. If Gov. Walker succeeds, there will be no organized voice to oppose hi ...

Just Coming To This Realization...Sep 28, 2012
Something just struck me today.  I have a feeling that the truth about the two major candidates for president lies somewhere around the facts that Mitt Romney isn't as bad as his gaffes and appearances might indicate, and Barack Obama deserves a lot more credit than his opponents give him.   Disagreement has always been part of political discussion in this country, but I hate where our political climate has taken us--no one DARES to say anything good about "the other side."   ...
