Romney's Religious Beliefs
Posted: Sep 12, 2012
Romney continues to support a church that said Blacks were descendants from Cain, a biblical murderer. The Mormon Church would not allow blacks to become priets. Romney will not apologize for the church's prejudice.
The Mormon Church supported child rape until it became unpopular with the public, then suddenly they claim their "prophets" got different messages from God so they no longer allowed child rape. Still current day Mormons have the portrait of a child rapist on their walls. Romney will not apologize to these child victims of rape.
To this day the Mormon Church will not allow women to be priests, not until a "prophet" recives a "conflicting" new message from God informing them, finally, that women are as competent as men.
The Mormon doctrines state that they shall not kill animals except in times of famine. Here in Utah, all men want to do is go out and shoot animals for the thrill of the kill. I've never met a vegetarian Mormon.
A Mormon "prophet" claims God said that they shalt not drink "hot drinks". The Mormons twist the prophet's words into whatever suits them. Therefore they all still drink hot chocolate, yet that, according to the prophet, was against God's wishes.
It's hard to believe that in this day and age, people in this country can still support a man who will not apologise for his church for a policy that allows prejudice against people of dark skin, child rape and discrimination against women. ;
Discussion of a candidate's religion is very valid, but it has - to be kept respectful. Thumb down. NM

And in response to the first reply: What I consider disrespectful is denying a black man a position in the churct as priest because of the color of his skin; denying a woman a position of priesthood because of her gender; and finally, rape of a child. When adolescent girls were forced into marriage, I guarantee you, the girls were not consentual when it came to having sex at that age! That is the definition of child molestation and rape, both of which are disrespectful, not the reporting of same.

This is what she told me about her church and your post:
There are black people in her church that hold very prominent positions.
They don't have Priest in the mormorm faith.
They don't support child rape.
Their "prophets" are your "apostles"
Women in her church do not want to be "priests" if they did they would join a catholic church.
Women in her church are very happy in the roles they serve as teachers and board members.
Who cares about killing animals. Every culture has their viewpoints. Doesn't make one or the other right.
No mormon ever said don't drink hot drinks. They don't drink caffeinated drinks (to include cold sodas). None of them are going against Gods wishes.
It's not hard at all to understand why people will support Gov. Romney for president. He has the experience, knowledge. He understand issues the American people are facing. He has ideas on how to put people back to work. Mr. Romney will have people of all races and women in his cabinets. He will not rule the country according to his religion. Been an adult through many many presidents and none of them whether democrat or republican has ever let their religion run the country. They used their faith to guide them in the right directions, but never let it rule the country.

im an exmormon and thats definetly twisting what they believe. theres a story in the book of mormon that when two bad men defied god, he turned their skin dark so they would be recognized and outcast from the others. thats the story youre hearing.

No president should run the country according to his religion but should run the country with morals. Do you know what scared me when Obama was at the United Nations a few weeks ago?
He said "The future must not belong
to those who slander the prophet of islam". Hilary worked with the islamic counsel to sign into law a global ban of speaking out against islam.

OMG, I do not believe you stated that! It is not a defensible act. I know other religions (dark ages roots)have done that but, stating that really flew all over me. I do, by the way, defend what you have to say. I am also active with no kill shelters in my city.

Well, while I appreciate your intended support, I have my doubts as to you actually having been a Mormon. You know how every group has their own language that those outside it don't quite get? It is very true for Mormons. No Mormon says "temple Mormon" and no Mormon, ex- or otherwise, ever says "found the Lord."
Don't pretend to be something you are not. If I am wrong I apologize, you just don't sound Mormon, even an ex-Mormon and I know many.

My meaning here is that while I belong to and am affiliated with a Baptist Church, in no wise am I always in agreement with what they preach and practice. For the most part I am, that is why I am Baptist. I have known a few people quite well in my lifetime who were practicing Mormons. They were honest, generous, God-loving people. Yes, I agree that many things they have in the past condoned and some of the things the church still adheres to today are "strange to me." Notice the emphasis on "to me." Most of our denominations have some skeletons in the closet. I know it has not been so many years ago that the Baptists apologized to the black population for treatment in the distant past. I will say, however, that the Baptist churches I have attended have always taught that we are all one in Christ (not Greek, not gentile (black, hispanic, etc.), so I fortunately don't know a lot about and have not experienced those treatments firsthand. I do not believe today's mainstream Mormons condone or practice polygamy or child molestation or that they are prejudiced toward people of different races (think the Osmonds). Religion is a very personal choice for most of us. If I decide I no longer can support the Baptists, I can move over to the Methodists, Catholics, or any of the others. I know that Romney's past performance in politics says that he is in no way prejudiced against people of different ethnic backgrounds. I believe him to be honest and fair in his dealings with others. I believe him to be a compassionate and good person. I believe he has the skills and good sense to help solve our country's problems. That is why I am voting for him. I neither support nor believe in some of the practices of the Mormon Church nor in the Book of Mormon, but I am not in the least afraid of Mormons. Today, they have a religion of tolerance toward other beliefs. That is the bottom line. I cannot support anyone for President who would be a threat to my religious freedom, but that is just not the Mormons or the Catholics. Certainly if I wait to vote only for Baptists, I will be missing a few elections. We could do far worse than Mitt Romney for President and have.
How is any of that different from other religions? - Most christians I know are huge hypocrites!

It's funny that people have such a hard time understanding the mormon religion and how it discriminates..... yet all religions discriminate in some way or another. It's just that when it's your religion you put on blinders and pretend it isn't there.

Everytime I read something like what you have written there is always an element of truth, but more of non-truth. We have black members who hold positions within the church and that may have been true many, many years ago, but it is not that way now. It is also true that we can kill animals in time of famine, but we try not to do this because it is something just to do, and we do not go out and do if for the "thrill of the kill." There are many Mormons that are vegetarian. We do drink hot drinks and many Mormons drink hot chocolate, we don't drink caffeinated drinks or coffee, nothing with stimulants in the drinks. The prophet does not twist the words of God and before they publish something or we have general conference these speeches are carefully and prayerfully written. We are NOT prejudiced in any way, shape or form, and we are often responders in times of disaster and have helped many communities by giving aid to them. We also have our own welfare system in place, and also give our time to work when we receive something from the welfare system. We have our own storage facilities, cattle ranches, grow our own crops, and teach classes to church members about storage. We share these teachings with others. A long time ago, as a young mother who was abandoned and abused by her the husband and with 4 children, I was approached to become a member, and I have not once regreted that decision. They helped me at a very bad time and 1 Christmas my doorbell range and on my porch was a basket filled with groceries and a 100 dollar bill inside an envelope. A family who is very much in need is picked at Christmas to benefit from this. When I could not pay my rent or utilities they helped me, but I also worked so I would not feel they were giving me a handout. We do tremendous work for others, and I raised my children in the church and I was blessed that my children stayed on a very straight path when others were getting into trouble. I am the product of a mixed mother and father, and there was no prejudice ever shown to me. They also do not have discrimination against women, and have come very far in making sure that more things are opened up to women. All men and women of a ward are the lay ministers for our faith and we are assigned a topic to speak on during our meetings. I have held many offices in the church, and 2 of them were very important. I can assure you that Mormon women are very, very strong and I never saw one that was dominated by the church, made to feel unworthy, or was not respected by her husband. You need to read some books, talk to "real" Mormons and not believe the evil gossip that goes around. We do not have a child rapist on our walls, and where did you get that from? We have NEVER, EVER supported child rape, what a horrible thing to say! We are the real church, not one of the offshoots who abuse women and children and never follow the original precepts upon which the church was founded. We DO NOT believe in pleural marriage, which was practiced over 100 years ago, but that is not allowed at all anymore, and if one does that it is because they are what I call "an outlaw church of Mormons." I always get asked that question and then the subject comes up whether I have pleural marriage in a very crude way. And by the way, blacks do become priesthood holders. You are so against Romney and sound like you hate us, and we never supported child rape!!! Sorry, but just make sure that what you are saying is true. I have been in the church now for about 30 years, so I do know.
