Nebraska Senate Nominee Says Religious Beliefs Justify Law Breaking

Posted: May 14, 2014

In a great example of "not really thinking things all the way through before you speak", Nebraska republican senate candidate Ben Sasse says, “government cannot force citizens to violate their religious beliefs under any circumstance"...including even if those beliefs violate federal law.

So under his reasoning, so-called honor killings could not be prosecuted if they were carried out for religious beliefs...employers could fire women simply for being women if their religion told them women were not to work...slavery would be a-okay.

I don't think he's ever studied any religion other than his own....

I think its a matter of semantics - here

The government doesn't force people to violate their religious beliefs, what it does is expect every citizen who CHOOSES to live here to abide by state/federal law.

That's am important distinction. He's twisting words here. Unless someone has a specific (documentable) instance of where the government FORCES citizens to violate their CHOSEN religious beliefs.

Romney's Religious BeliefsSep 12, 2012
Romney continues to support a church that said Blacks were descendants from Cain, a biblical murderer. The Mormon Church would not allow blacks to become priets. Romney will not apologize for the church's prejudice. The Mormon Church supported child rape until it became unpopular with the public, then suddenly they claim their "prophets" got different messages from God so they no longer allowed child rape. Still current day Mormons have the portrait of a child rapist on their walls. Ro ...
