Posts regarding religious discussions

Posted: Sep 12, 2012

I recently took the action to move a post from this board to the faith board and wanted to explain why.  The post in itself was because someone does not agree with the mormon religion and she went on to post her opinions about a religion.  The content of the message was not political, except that it mentioned a politicians name, but nothing about politics itself.

If you want to have a discussion about someones religion and what you believe that religion beleives in those coversations belong on the faith board.  Discussions regarding political  issues belongs on this board.

Thank you,

I've Been Following The Dog Discussions Below And I Have A Question...Sep 02, 2010
When a person gets a dog, do they really need to take the dog to obedience classes or whatever?  And how many people have done this or would do this? I was just wondering about this because I personally have never done this and I have owned dogs my whole life.  I've never really had any problems with my dogs.  Sure there were a couple of honery dogs, but nothing I couldn't handle on my own.  Of course when I was a kid there were no leash laws and dogs roa ...

If you post a drive by to another poster and are not talking about the subject matter being discussed your post will be removed.  Stop insulting posters because you do not agree with them.  This is not the place for that. Respectfully discuss subject matters being discussed.  Otherwise do not post at all.  Thank you, Moderator ...

Please Keep Messages To Discussions Of Political Issues Apr 08, 2013
Many posts are going off track.  This is a political site.  It is to discuss politics.  It is not a site to share your hobbies whether it be scrapbooking or gardening or whatever other hobbies you enjoy.  That is why there is a Gab Board.  If you want to talk about your hobbies that is the place to discuss them. Sometimes ridiculing posters and trying to make fun of their concerns is not the best thing to do by telling them they need to take up a hobby like scrap bookin ...

Being Non-Religious PersecutionDec 07, 2009
American Atheists filed suit in federal court today on behalf of an Oklahoma family who say their civil rights were violated by the Hardesty, Oklahoma Public Schools and the Texas County, Oklahoma Sheriff’s Department. The daughter of Chester Smalkowski wanted to play basketball for the Hardesty Public Schools. She was forced from the team when she, an Atheist, refused to recite the Lord’s Prayer after a game as was required by the school. When the Smalkowski family complained about ...

The Religious Left Jul 31, 2016
We will see a rise of the religious left in this country over the next 100 days, as evidenced by the speech of William Barber at the DNC.  If you missed his mini-sermon, it's posted below.  Well worth the read.   Good evening. my Brothers and Sisters.  I come before you tonight as a preacher, the son of a preacher, a preacher immersed in the movement at five years old. I don't come tonight representing any organization,  ...

Filing suit in Indiana for right to smoke marijuana legally in their church. Under the state’s new Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which took effect July 1, the government must prove it is enforcing a compelling interest in the least restrictive way if a person claims an undue burden on religious liberty. The Church of Cannabis had its first service July 1 but said its members would not use cannabis after law enforcement warned that police would arrest anyone who smoked pot. What ...

Romney's Religious BeliefsSep 12, 2012
Romney continues to support a church that said Blacks were descendants from Cain, a biblical murderer. The Mormon Church would not allow blacks to become priets. Romney will not apologize for the church's prejudice. The Mormon Church supported child rape until it became unpopular with the public, then suddenly they claim their "prophets" got different messages from God so they no longer allowed child rape. Still current day Mormons have the portrait of a child rapist on their walls. Ro ...

How Do You Feel When A Religious PersonJun 04, 2013
I have to say, I don't want anybody knocking on my door without calling first. I take no offense in particular to religious people doing it, but I get more of them than anyone else, so that's why I'm using this forum. I think it is intrusive, whether it's a friend, family, religious person, or someone looking to do lawn work. Just the other day, I was just getting out of the shower when the doorbell rang. It was 1 p.m.  Okay, maybe most people take their showers before ...

Obama's Religious BlindnessFeb 19, 2015
At this week's White House summit on combating violent extremism on social media, all topics are fair game except Islamist extremism. From the administration's point of view, it may as well not even exist, despite the fact that the first I in ISIS and ISIL stands for "Islamic", as in Islamic State. The White House has consistently downplayed, if not outright ignored, the religious dimension of the war on terrorism. This has much to do with President Obama's apparent belief that a ...

What Is This World Coming To? No, Not A Religious Post But (sm)Jan 19, 2012
I have been sat here watching Nancy Grace. A 10-year-old boy stabbed and killed his 12-year-old best friend, the 12-year-old was apparently trying to break up a fight or something when it happened and was defending his friend. Now it is learned that the 10-year-old has some sort of psychiatric problem where he "acts out" and has apparently been on all kinds of medications for it, etc., etc. I was fortunate to raise kids with no ADHD or other problems but I find it so alarming to see so many c ...

Why Religious People Are Scared Of AtheistsJul 13, 2011
Religious believers commonly attack atheists simply for existing. Do out-of-the-closet atheists -- even polite ones -- challenge attempts at theocracy? What, exactly, do religious believers want from atheists? If you follow the atheism debates in op-ed pieces and whatnot, you'll see that critiques of the so-called New Atheist movement are often aimed at our tone. Among the pundits and opinion-makers, atheist writers and activists are typically called out for being offensive, in ...

Did Meatballs Influence Your Religious Choice?Oct 02, 2010
CNN) – Delaware Republican Senate nominee Christine O'Donnell says she tried "every other kind of religion," including witchcraft and Buddhism but became a Christian because of her love of Italian food. "I would have become a Hare Krishna, but I didn't want to become a vegetarian," O'Donnell said in an interview with Bill Maher in 1999. "And that is honestly the reason why, because I'm Italian and I love meatballs." ...

Did Secretive Religious Group Subsidize Congressman's Rent?Mar 06, 2010
By David Edwards and Muriel KaneFriday, March 5th, 2010 -- 12:42 pm Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) has been making headlines recently by threatening to torpedo health care reform unless the bill excludes coverage for abortion. Nebraska Senate Nominee Says Religious Beliefs Justify Law BreakingMay 14, 2014
In a great example of "not really thinking things all the way through before you speak", Nebraska republican senate candidate Ben Sasse says, “government cannot force citizens to violate their religious beliefs under any circumstance"...including even if those beliefs violate federal law.   So under his reasoning, so-called honor killings could not be prosecuted if they were carried out for religious beliefs...employers could fire women simply for being women if their religion t ...

Why Religious Freedom Laws Like Indiana's Are A Bad Idea For Left AND Right, Christian Or NotApr 01, 2015
Let me first say, again, I strongly believe in protecting civil liberties, but not promoting them. This means regardless of whether I agree or disagree morally, I do NOT agree with extremists, right or left, hellbent on forcing opinion into law. Recently, this has been done by both sides, either by enacting deceptive state law that "pretends" it doesn't discriminate, or by filing deceptive lawsuits that "pretend" they're with whomever refused them, rather than finding the perfect sit ...
