Since I am pregnant and frequent a parenting forum. Today I found this amazing story and want to share it with you. Share your thoughts. Link below;

Sorry! - was doing fine until she cut the placenta up and put them in the ice cube tray for smoothies for later!!

when you have a baby at home without a midwife or any kind of medical professional and you do not call the ambulance after or at least go the ER to make sure everything is okay, how do you get a birth certificate? And what would that process entail, getting a birth certificate? I would assume that you would have to prove the baby is actually yours because if not, than anyone who has abducted an infant, could just go and get a birth certificate.

So yeah the only two things gave me pause were the smoothies and how would you get a birth certifcate. Other than that, I say to each his own, except for maybe breastfeeding a toddler.

I posed the same questions to myself. How did she obtain a birth certificate and maybe have a doctor look the new baby over. No qualms about nursing the toddler but she should have weaned one baby before another was born. The toddler will take all her milk...not good for the newborn. The placenta smoothies I'd have to pass on. LOL

Modern medicine is not for nothing. I just had a baby 4 months ago and never, ever, would I endanger the life of my child or my life with trying this at home. My children's lives are not an experiment. I want to employ all that modern medicine has to offer. Very wreckless in my view. I am glad everything turned out well, but this easily could have been a tragic story.

could she be referring to that was invasive that she was forced to consent to or could not leave the hospital? Unless it was the baby's blood tests that are required by law, which I could see, otherwise no hospital is going to hold you 'hostage' to force you to have any medical procedure.

Even though I was in my 30's when I was pregnant with my youngest, and considered "high-risk", I declined all medical tests (other than normal prenatal visits). I had to sign a bunch of waivers but in no way was I forced to consent or held hostage. Crazy!!!

could have been using forceps instead of letting the baby be born naturally and maybe having to have a spinal block. Some doctors won't deliver the baby unless you sign papers stating you will let them use whatever procedure they wish....or at least they used to. I can't really say. Our younges is 36 and oldest 41. I don't know what they do these days.

I agree with you. Obviously she forgot or never knew how many mothers and/or children died from infections and other birth problems. Umm, a skewer from a kitchen drawer? How sanitary is that? Glad she feels empowered but mostly she was one very lucky mother.

not so wonderful. More people (including babies) die everyday in our hospitals. I was totally ignored by medical personnel back in 1975 and had an unassisted birth through no fault of my own. So much for endangering the lives of my baby and me. LOL We've been birthing babies for thousands of years without the use of doctors. What would we do without a doctor to pull the babies out of us or cut us open when we don't want to go through the pain like dimwit Brittney Spears? I could just have easily saved us $400 back then because the only person in the room at the time I gave birth was myself and hubby.

than the nurses who ignored me when I told them I was in labor 36 years ago and I ended up having my baby in a porta potty. If they had checked on me more often, I would have used the porta potty sooner and been back to bed. It was, however, the easiest birth I ever had. LOL

They just happened to make sure to get pictures while all this was happening? It sounds a bit off- I would not be suprised to find out there was a midwife there and most of this is for shock value and to get hits on her blog. And WTF is up with nursing that other kid still? What is he, 3 years old? Nasty!

Some babies get teeth at 3 months. That doesn't mean they should be weaned at 3 mos. Our oldest son had teeth by 8 months and I nursed all our children for a year. I wouldn't deprive them just because they had teeth. He was a little ornery though. He liked to grind his new teeth on mama's breast. Not fun but he knew he wasn't supposed to do it.

about nursing your baby for 2-3 years...the longer the better for your baby. She should, however, wean the oldest one. The new baby should get all her milk.

Congrats to her but she needs to be saving her milk for the new baby. I have no qualms about nursing for several years but, when a new baby comes along, it's time to wean the older one.

I had an unassisted birth in 1975 and was in the hospital. It's a long story but hospital staff didn't seem to believe me when I told them I was in labor. This was our third child. I'm not a screamer but they still should have taken my word. They had admitted me for crying out loud. They gave me a shot saying "this will make the pains go away or you'll go into hard labor. I went into hard labor and they still didn't believe me. When I had to use the bathroom (I had drank a quart of chocolate milk before being admitted), they pointed to a porta potty which is where our son was born with only his daddy looking on. Needless to say, they believed everything I told them after that. LOL

Not just to prevent pregnancy - To regulate menstrual cycles, as treatment for other female problems, menopause issues etc. These are many medical reasons for taking birth control, not just to prevent pregnancy. Am I missing something? She's a year and a half old boxer. I kept meaning to get her spayed, but it always got pushed down on the list by other pressing bills and such. I know when I was young and needed it most people actually had some money left over to pay for stuff like that after your essentials came out - can any of us MTs honestly say we could afford birth control today if we had to use it?
