Sarah Palin Goes 'Birther':Obama Birth Certificate 'A Fair Question'

Posted: Dec 4, 2009

Well then, she should be asked to disclose all info about Trig's birth too
Sarah Palin declared on Thursday that the legitimacy of President Obama's birth certificate is "rightfully" an issue with the American public, and that it is "fair game" for politicians to question Obama's citizenship.

The comments came during an interview with conservative radio host Rusty Humphries, who asked Palin whether she planned to "make the birth certificate an issue" if she runs for president in 2012.

"I think the public rightfully is still making it an issue," Palin said. "I don't have a problem with that. I don't know if I would have to bother to make it an issue, because I think that members of the electorate still want answers."

Humphries -- who began the interview with a rendition of the song "Sarah, Queen Of The Wild Frontier" -- followed up: "Do you think it's a fair question to be looking at?"
"I think it's a fair question just like I think past associations and past voting records. All of that is fair game," Palin responded, adding that "the McCain-Palin campaign didn't do a good enough job in that area. We didn't call out Obama and some of his associates on their records and what their beliefs were, and perhaps what their future plans were, and I don't think that was fair to voters to not have done our job as candidates and a campaign to bring to light a lot of things that now we're seeing manifest in the administration."

Palin later referenced "that weird conspiracy theory freaky thing that people talk about that Trig isn't my real son, and a lot of people that went 'Well, you need to produce his birth certificate, you need to prove that he's your kid,' which we have done, but yeah, so maybe we can reverse that, and use the same [inaudible] thinking on the other one."

UPDATE: At 1:16 AM ET, Palin posted the following on her Facebook page:

Stupid Conspiracies

Voters have every right to ask candidates for information if they so choose. I've pointed out that it was seemingly fair game during the 2008 election for many on the left to badger my doctor and lawyer for proof that Trig is in fact my child. Conspiracy-minded reporters and voters had a right to ask... which they have repeatedly. But at no point - not during the campaign, and not during recent interviews - have I asked the president to produce his birth certificate or suggested that he was not born in the United States.

WATCH: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/1..._n_379634.html

FactCheck.org has done the most comprehensive debunking of the various conspiracy theories related to Obama's citizenship. Here is their bottom line:
In June, the Obama campaign released a digitally scanned image of his birth certificate to quell speculative charges that he might not be a natural-born citizen. But the image prompted more blog-based skepticism about the document's authenticity. And recently, author Jerome Corsi, whose book attacks Obama, said in a TV interview that the birth certificate the campaign has is "fake."
We beg to differ. FactCheck.org staffers have now seen, touched, examined and photographed the original birth certificate. We conclude that it meets all of the requirements from the State Department for proving U.S. citizenship. Claims that the document lacks a raised seal or a signature are false. We have posted high-resolution photographs of the document as "supporting documents" to this article. Our conclusion: Obama was born in the U.S.A. just as he has always said.

I hold the "libs" in slightly higher esteem than you do, but overall, I agree with your comment and thank you for pointing that out for us all.

Ms Palin or the governor as she wishes to be - NM

called, needs some new conspiracies to get her mug on the news. We've grown weary.

Well since people still call - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
him President Clinton, President Bush, President Reagan, Gov. Huckabee, Gov. Locke why wouldn't someone grant her the same respect. It is only respectful. If people can get past the hate of her, and stop criticizing her for every little thing she does or says, maybe she would go away as people hope.

You're only keeping her up and going as long as you talk about her. After the race I forgot about her. What she does in her life does not affect my life. I don't hear anything about her except all the hate stuff people keep bringing out. If people would ignore her she would go away.

You and others only have yourselves to blame for her being in the spotlight all the time. If the media ignored her then we wouldn't hear about her. Maybe tell the media you've grown weary and for them to stop reporting about her. If she bothers you so much, change the channel. Not every station reports on her. The Food Network channel, travel channel and BBC are good starters to not hear anything about her.

Just disgusted with the people who exudes the hatred toward her. She is deserving of being called Governor if other people who left their office are still called Governor.

You're not even close to hilarious. More like pathetic. No laughs on this end. Maybe it's all that Kool-Aid that is making you laugh.

My thoughts ~ sm - Anoni~

Only the person currently holding the office should be referred to as President or Gov. Those no longer holding the position should always have the adjective FORMER in front of the title.
I agree with you, however, that's not what is happening - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Former should be in front of the position they held - Former President Clinton, Former President Bush, Former Gov. Locke, etc. But it isn't. People still call them President and Governor even after they leave the office, so why shouldn't people call her Governor Palin. Especially if they are calling others Governor.
Palin quit before her term was up. - Palintology
[ In Reply To ..]
For that reason alone, she should not be referred to as "governor."
That does not make a difference. - She was still Governor.
[ In Reply To ..]
She was not fired from her job as governor. She stepped down. You don't take someone's title away from them because they step down. She did what was best for the office, and because she did what was in the best interest of the office of governor of Alaska she deserves to be called Governor, just like everyone else who has stepped down or left and are still called Governor (or President). She did nothing disgraceful and as other people who have stepped down and quit and are no longer governors are still being called Governor, she deserves the same respect. And it's just too bad you don't like that. Fortunately you don't have a say in it. If anyone should not carry a title it would be Clinton. He disgraced the white house and the position of President. He was an impeached failure. His title should be "The Impeached Failed Past President Clinton" but most people just call him Billy-boy and that's fine by me. He is so non-important in our lives, just as Sarah Palin is. I ignore her, therefore she doesn't affect my life. When you ignore someone you see less and less reports of them. And that's fine by me. If I never see her again it will be too soon, but it's because of people like you who want to keep bringing her up she remains in the spotlight for you.

Either way, whether she is here or not, she is deserving of and always will be called Governor Palin.
ROFLMAO! - Palintology
[ In Reply To ..]
You Palin groupies are a hoot!
As are you Palin haters. - what part of my message did not not understand
[ In Reply To ..]
I guess none of it.

I will repeat once more for any small minded people who do not understand my post.

She was not fired, she stepped down. She deserves the same respect as others who have stepped down and are still called Governor.

I ignore her, hence, she does not affect my life.

If I never see her again it I don't care.

You and others keep her in the spotlight because you and others consistently whine about her, making her a subject to talk about. Ignore her and she goes away.

Just because I don't care for someone doesn't mean I'm going to bash someone for no reason. If someone is being treated unfairly for no reason, I will say what is right.

Luckily you don't have a say either in whether she is or is not called Governor Palin. She is and will continue to be called Governor Palin whether you like it or not.

You Palin-hater groupies are pathetic.
Curious about this. Do you have any names? - Wondering who
[ In Reply To ..]
has quit an office and is still properly called by the title. I know that it is proper to call people who fulfilled their term by their former title, but it makes no sense to call someone who quit by the title. I believe you are wrong about this. "Former" or "Ex" probably, but not the title itself.
Some interesting facts about quitting office. - Palintology
[ In Reply To ..]
On a hunch, I reviewed online lists of all the men and women whoâve been elected governor of their state since the year 1900. Pored over them for a few hours. Over 1200 politicians have taken that first-term oath of office. Some soon died in office. Many resigned to accept other positions in government, including Spiro Agnew who was âtappedâ by Nixon after being the Governor of Maryland for about five minutes. On a handful of occasions, a first-termer was dragged off to the slammer or impeached. One was incapacitated by a nervous breakdown and one left just as impeachment came knocking on his door. Soâhow many out of over 1200 just up and quit before the end of their term?

Three: Jim McGreevy, Eliot Spitzer and Sarah Palin.

McGreevy quit after admitting he had a homosexual affair with another man, Spitzer quit after admitting he had an affair with a prostitute, and Sarah Palin just up and quit!

She deserves to be called something but definitely not governor!
Let's just call her former Governor Palin, ok? - How does that sound?
