Recent shooting (Shaw) in St. Louis is not

The article draws from many different reports, but the gist of it is that St. Louis Police cannot get their "story" straight. Why do they need a story Can't they just tell the truth. Leaves me once again wondering if the victim had a gun at all. Becoming extremely disillusioned.

I know the kid was on house arrest and shouldn't have been out. But he went out for a sandwich and up until that point, as far as anyone reports, he hadn't done anything wrong. We don't kill people for buying sandwiches and violating house arrest. We take away the privilege of house arrest.

Are there any reports of bullets from the victims gun anywhere? Shell casings? I heard they won't release the report until next month. This is ridiculous.

There is a lot more to the story of this young man - he was "known" to police in the area because of previous arrests, gun possession, etc.

It always amazes me how the family knows that he only had a sandwich in his hand - how do they know - were they there? If he was on house arrest, why was it okay for him to leave the house for a sandwich?

Nothing like that has been stated. Just he wanted to do ID check on the 3 black males on a street corner. I would really object to this in my neighborhood, but chances are that won't happen, I'm white.

This was likely a case where it was going to be one or the other that was going to die that day - just because he is a cop doesn't mean he doesn't have the same instinct to survive as the young man did - and if the young man started shooting at the cop - the cop shot back - I saw a panel discussion on television one evening about the rules that policeman have - and it is really much more "mechanics" than we realize - how much time they can allow for the "bad guy" to make the right decision before they have to act in order to save their own life or the lives of those around them - how much "distance" they have before they have to act - as in how fast the "bad guy" can reach them with a knife before they have to act to save their own life or the lives of someone else - it was very interesting how it all comes down to act now or it may be too late. They are taught to make these decisions without emotion because of emotion enters in, they will die.
It was enlightening....

"alleged struggle," and shots "allegedly fired," as the one-sided description by a department spokesperson for the anonymous officer are reported in the WSJ link. Where I come from, 3 men standing on a street corner are not automatically assumed to be "acting suspiciously." A lone officer approaching a "group" of suspects would call for back-up. Officers who encounter resistance to arrest are expected to use the tasers taxpayers have equipped them with. Seventeen rounds is considered to be excessive force that merits at the very least investigation and the minimal courtesy of a direct public statement from the trigger-happy cop, especially one who is purported to have such an iron-clad open-and-shut case that never makes its way to court.

"alledgedly" must be used by the police department where the family is free to say that "he only went for a sandwich" which is, in fact, alleged too. But I want you to tell me that if you were a cop, you should taser somebody who is shooting at you? Have your family let me know how that worked out for you.

There isn't a whole lot of trust on this. Looks like an off duty cop, in an unmarked car, but wearing a uniform, saw 3 young adults on a corner. How tragic at least 15 day in a school shooting at a community college in Oregon. When will it stop and how do WE make it stop.
