Unfortunately, none of the followers congregated there were packing assault weapons or courageous enough to step forward and take charge of the situation, as GOP US Rep Louie Gohmert, Ted Nugent and their ilk have suggested mitigates against stricter gun control laws. Too soon for an injuries/fatalities body count, as grief-stricken family and friends await notification of their loved ones' fates.

as a white male wearing a t-shirt, with confusion as to how many shooters were involved. Some reports say one is still inside the temple while others suggest a shooter is "at-large." Among those still trapped inside, in hiding, are children, whose view of Sunday worship and personal security will obviously be forever marred, leaving parents grasping at straws when trying to reassure thier kids they will keep them safe.

CNN) -- At least seven people, including a gunman shot by a police officer, have been killed in an attack on worshippers at a Sikh temple in the Milwaukee suburb of Oak Creek, Wisconsin, on Sunday, police said.

The officer was wounded but "returned fire, and that shooter was put down," said Bradley Wentlandt, the police chief in nearby Greenfield, who briefed reporters. Investigators who picked through the building afterward found four bodies inside the temple and two other victims outside, plus the gunman, Wentlandt said.

Though early reports had suggested there may have been more than one attacker, he said officers had not identified any other gunmen.

The wounded officer, a 20-year veteran, was in surgery Sunday afternoon after being shot multiple times, but was expected to survive, Wentlandt said. He was sent to the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin in Oak Creek, south of Milwaukee, after a 911 call about 10:25 a.m. (11:25 a.m. ET).

Carolyn Bellin, a spokeswoman for Milwaukee's Froedtert Hospital, said one of three men brought there from the incident was in surgery early Sunday morning, while another was in the surgical intensive care unit. The third was being evaluated in the emergency room. All three were in critical condition.

The temple has a congregation of 250 to 400, according to its website.

"I just want to say this temple was built a number of years ago and there have never been any problems with this temple," Oak Creek Alderman Dan Jakubczyk said. "They've been a plus to this city and to my district."

said two of the three adult male victims brought there, all of whom are listed in critical condition, have been treated for gunshot wounds to the face. They also said a 10-year old child was the first person inside the temple to see the gunman, who happily did not end up riddled with bullets. The temple interior cannot be cleared, nor can the injured be assessed, until inspection of all 17,000 square feet of the facility has been completed.

CNN's coverage has been pretty good so far, except for this one thing. In a phone interview with Rajwant Singh, who is on the Sikh Council on Religion and Education, reporter Don Lemon asked if he or other board members had any idea who the shooter or his motives might be. Mr Singh's response, which began with "To be quite honest," recounted the fears the Sikh community had been experiencing ever since 911, that they are perceived a Moslems. As a consequence, board members have felt their facilities could become targets "at any time."

In the middle of his reply, Mr Lemon began interrupting and talking over him in an effort to avoid the appearance of CNN jumping to conclusions prematurely. His compulsion to issue disclaimers about every five minutes since then is ongoing. At the same time, he has been "reporting" his own ideas about all possible shooter identities and motives. Maybe next time he asks someone to SPECULATE about such things, he will remember the egg he threw all over his own face, refrain from his own quesswork, and simply report the "shooter identity and motivies are not known at this time."

On the other hand, at some point soon, I think the content of Mr Singh's response is a story worth pursuing, REGARDLESS of why this incident occured. For minority religious groups and communities living in America, the spectre of 911 looms over them as an everyday reality, thanks to Moslem fear-mongering propogated by the likes of Michele Bachmann, birthers and other extremists who have large percentages of GOP voter populations believing Obama is a Moslem to be feared, and Huma Abedin is connected to terrorists and has an agenda to destroy our American way of life "as we know it."

Personally, I am saddened to see some Sikhs taking to the airways and rushing to distinguish themselves from Moslems, but am encouraged by others who are expressing their solidarity with all minorities, both religious and secular, whose well-being, security and whose very lives are endangered by ill-advised political initiatives, mired in casual, unapologetic ignorance, such as those previously described.

This article on the mass exodus of physicians post Obamacare is a few years old, but I found the Comments section quite interesting. There isn't a whole lot of trust on this. Looks like an off duty cop, in an unmarked car, but wearing a uniform, saw 3 young adults on a corner. One took off running, officer made a U-turn and chased him, eventually on foot. Police say kid turned and shot at officer 3 times, officer shot 17 times. Others say kid was not armed.
