Making humor with recent news items....

Posted: Aug 8, 2012

Because we could all use a chuckle, I wanted to share this cute comment I read somewhere on the internet today:

Dear Religion: While you were debating what chicken sandwiches were O.K. to eat, I just landed on Mars.  Sincerely, your friend, Science.

Before anyone gets too bent out of shape, lighten up....it's just meant to be humorous.  I like to laugh, even if it's at myself on occasion.  Wink

No, you don't have a thick skull. :-) You probably just haven't been following some of the recent news about the Chick-Fil-A Day turnout. People who are not in favor of gay marriage equality turned out at Chick-Fil-A restaurants all over the country one day last week to show their support by buying chicken sandwiches....well, you can google it if you aren't familiar with what happened. I didn't go there, but based on news reports, the wait at the local CFA restaurant was hours long, and the traffic snarl at that intersection was a nightmare.

Here in my state, some on the State Board of Education want public schools to teach Creationism in the science classes alongside evolution. The majority of folks here are conservative, far-right Christians. I HOPE they're not anti-science, too, but many people connect this BOE issue as being a struggle between Religion and Science.

Oh, and P.S..... - (see message)

....if you REALLY don't follow the news, you might not know that NASA landed a rover on the surface of Mars this week. So, the person who wrote the note in my OP to "Religion" is crediting "Science" for making it possible to land a vehicle on Mars. :-)
Interesting take. - I took it a different way.
[ In Reply To ..]
I took it as the Mars landing news being eclipsed by the silly Chick-Fil-A news, showing that what people focus on can be really superficial.
Oh, now THAT'S interesting! - (see message)

Your take on it does make sense, too. Interesting! Now I'm more curious to know what the writer's intent was--LOL. Either way, I thought it was a cute way to make a point.

Love the satire - ws

They're putting back the language of "Jerusalem is, and always will be, the capital of Israel" and the phrases using "God" that were in the 2008 campaign but were taken out in this year's campaign (and Durbin flew off the handle about yesterday). Hmmmmmmmm. Wonder why? Could it be they got too much flak over it???   ...

New Items In My Etsy ShopAug 01, 2010
Good evening, everyone!  Hope today finds you well.  Just a post about some new items in my Etsy shop such as stitch markers, new necklaces, bracelets, rings, etc.  I recently (this week) lost my at-home MT job.  I am in the process of looking for a new one.  If anyone has any leads, I'd greatly appreciate it.   Of course, this happens after we buy my 17-yo DS his first vehicle.  Have a great week, everyone! ...

Two More Items To Add To Obama's LegacyJan 19, 2017
1. (a)  All totaled so far, he communited 1715 jail sentences. This is the most in the history of this country. Besides the drug dealers he commuted the sentence of a treasonist ( Pvt. Manning) because he thought he was punished enough.  Is 7 years enough of a sentence of someone who risked the security of this country? I don't think so. The government used to hang or shoot people convicted of treason. I don't think 35 yeras is too much to ask.  Even some ...

Would Like To Find Place For Family ItemsJan 03, 2016
My mother and father both deceased and I have some of their things as well as my own. I am trying to discard things but just do not want to throw away in the garbage. Is there any place that might take clothing items that might be older, not up to date things. I would feel much better if able to help someone else out with what I have this way rather than just trashing things. ...

Getting Second Opinion Recent Eye SurgeryMar 22, 2013
I decided to contact one of the managers where I had my cataract surgery about 4 weeks ago now as striving to see what other options might be open for me. Needless to say I do not have any desire to return to the original surgeon, not that he failed but with his flaring up about a perfectly innocent comment from me, will not trust him in going forward with any tweeking that might need to be done. I have an appointment to see the manager on Monday. I like to speak face to face with a person, not ...

Recent Shooting (Shaw) In St. Louis Is Not Oct 12, 2014
The article draws from many different reports, but the gist of it is that St. Louis Police cannot get their "story" straight.  Why do they need a story  Can't they just tell the truth.  Leaves me once again wondering if the victim had a gun at all.  Becoming extremely disillusioned.   I know the kid was on house arrest and shouldn't have been out.  But he went out for a sandwich and up until that point, as far as anyone reports, he hadn't done anyth ...

The Republican Sense Of HumorMar 28, 2012
Romney certainly has a lot of that sharp and scintillating legendary Republican sense of humor. Here is the very funny story Romney told today in Wisconsin.
