I suppose you think the Aurora or Tuscon mass shootings aren't political either. Three words: Gun. Control. Laws.

Your first clue might have been the reference in the OP to statements made by US Rep Louie Gohmert, Ted Nugent, and other NRA apologists, in their haste to minimize the role that GUNS play in such tragedies. You're familiar with the NRA, aren't you? Those are the guys who have taken to passive- and active-aggressive bully tactics of late, such as threatening to "score" laws our elected officials are preparing to vote on, knowing full well that many of their re-election campaigns would be seriously jeopardized, if not vaporized, should NRA funding suddenly disappear from their war chests.

Some of us are aware of the fact that easy access to weapons contribute to and facilitate the frequency at which these incidents occur and the outcomes they produce. We also understand that the potency of the "guns don't shoot people, people do" cliche is weakened considerably in the face of mass shootings that produce multiple victims and dozens of life-altering injuries. Do you think the shooter in Aurora could have killed and injured as many as he did if he were, for example, throwing knives at the audience?

When the body counts rise above more than a few, and the dispute is not discernably motivated by revenge, monetary gain, marital infidelity, drug deals gone awry, or any number of personal reasons people murder each other and, instead, are indiscriminately aimed at large groups of people for whatever reason, the politics of gun control immediately comes into play. You can believe that, since Aurora (and now this), previously demoralized political gun control activists are going to be doing their best to reignite their campaign to capture the attention of pols on both sides of the aisle and let them know that status quo on this issue is no longer acceptable.

Next up? Campaign finance reform and special interest lobbies. BTW, official word has it this, in fact, IS being investigated as a possible act of domestic terrorism. Whether or not it is in any way connected to ongoing witch hunts currently being carried out within the halls of Congress is yet to be determined. I, for one, will be patiently waiting as the breaking news story unfolds and the investigation continues to progress.

Hopefully, I haven't overlooked any other potential political aspects of this incident, but I trust you understand exactly why I felt it was appropriate to post this on the political forum.

You are more interested in the political side of it - blaming the GOP "ilk" - than actual concern for the victims. It is that plain and simple.

If you want to blame someone other than the shooter, then I think the people to blame are the Hollywood people that produce the miserable movies that promote violence. I think it is the musicians that promote violence in their music.

Personally, I would rather solve the problem of WHY these people commit these crimes rather than go down your path of blaming someone other than the shooter or murderer. What good is that!!!

Cuts right to the heart of the issue. Gun laws and regulations will never curtail the brutality of one to another if that is their desire, especially if they are mentally unstable. I would love to know how many Fast and Furious guns authorized by Obama and his "ilk" killed innocent people on both sides of the border to advance their agenda. We only know of Agents Terry and Zappata, and even those have been lied about endlessly.

since any one of those victims you seem to think I care nothing about could just as easily have been my husband, my son, his dad, my father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother(s)-in-law, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, dozens of friends I've known for decades, and their families. Even if the motives of this possible domestic terrorist act turn out to be something unrelated to racial bigotry, I will have no apologies to offer for jumping to conclusions.

That makes me well aware of what price victims and their families will be paying for any political aspects of the crime, in addition to the garden variety unbearable grief they suffer for the loss of immediate family members or friends and the pall of sadness that will prevail upon those relatives of the injured as they embark on their rehabilitation journeys.

Your "lone wolf" clap-trap is even more ineffective than the "guns don't shoot people, people do" malarky. Anyone trying to throw that junk down while claiming that I am the one who is "only interested in the politics and not the victims" is clearly serving their own political agenda and is too consumed in their own hypocrisy to be reasoned with or taken seriously....and puh-leeze. Spare me the lecture on how concerned you are about "solving the problem of WHY these people commit these crimes" in the first place.

Just to be clear, I make NO apologies for being hyperpolitical on every single minute aspect that comes to bear on all of the above. remedies is strict gun control laws (assault weapons ban at least) and strict punishment. How anyone can think that there should be no law against assault weapons is beyond me. I really think if these incidents continue to happen and enough people are outraged about our lack of gun laws, something may change in the future. Seriously though, until we do something about lobbyists, the NRA in particular, buying politicians, nothing will change. Until the people of this country wake up and realize what is going on in congress, vote their disapproval, nothing will change. I have seen changes in attitude toward gay rights, so I suppose 1 day attitudes will change about the violence in our country and the part that lax gun laws play in it.

That wasn't the case a few weeks ago in my community when a young man on a motorcycle was killed by a man texting, driving and speeding. The parents of that young man on the motorcycle weren't able to watch their son walk through the door safe and sound. How many times does that happen in the United States every day?

Or another case recently in my community where an infant was dead for a day and half before the parents realized she was dead. The parents were high on meth. How many times does that happen in the United States every day?

Or the young girl raped at knife-point? How many times does that happen in the United States every day?

Or the abortions? Is that not murder also? How many abortions are there in the United States every day?

I would think that those of you who are so outraged by this murder at the temple in Wisconsin would, also, be just as outraged at the abortions in this country. But I guess maybe you are? Well, if she gets pregnant, I believe Romney would like to make her have that child so she can look at her rapist's face every day. Or maybe not, or maybe, or maybe not...I don't know. Which Romney is on the stump this week? And hey, if she does have that child,then you can all vote to kill Obamacare and deny medical benefits for that child and/or the girl herself. There isn't a whole lot of trust on this. Looks like an off duty cop, in an unmarked car, but wearing a uniform, saw 3 young adults on a corner. One took off running, officer made a U-turn and chased him, eventually on foot. Police say kid turned and shot at officer 3 times, officer shot 17 times. Others say kid was not armed. The CNN article says a gun was found at the scene. I am sure there is question as to whether that was the kid's gun ...
