PWOP birthday party

Recently My Granddaughter who is now 20 attended a PWOP birthday party where everyone paid for their own food. Most birthday patys I know of, no matter what the age, the host/hostess provides the food.
Have You done it? heard about it? what do You think?
I guess I still have a lot of my Mother inside of me. She would have Never ask nor accepted money for a "social " get togther. She would have said "Bless Your heart, You keep it Yourself", this is My party.
She told me that PWOP stands for "Party Without Paying" or "Party While Others Pay".

Right up there with asking for cash in lieu of gifts for wedding, birthday, etc., and the "it's the bride's day" nonsense.

I think if someone can't afford a party, they either should NOT have it, or just allow people to bring a dish if they'd like to. Most people ask (in my crowd of friends, anyway), and it takes the burden off the host financially and work wise. Mind you, I'm talking 20 people. For smaller parties, we just do it all.
