Show tickets, but I didn't know it.

We were on a Disney World vacation in FL. I wanted so bad to go to Cirque d' Soleil (or however you spell that), but tickets were too expensive. Hubby surprised me. Said we were just going to "walk around" one evening, then led me right into the line at the theater.

Best surprise ever!

So, only 1 person has had a birthday surprise? - LOL-nm

1959 ~ Barbie and Bimbo - Bindi

For my 10th birthday, I got the brand new doll, Barbie... the first year it was ever made. She had the cutest little blonde ponytail and fringe of curled bangs and a very stylish striped black and white one-piece bathing suit and little black high heels (because everyone wears high heels when they strut their stuff in a bathing suit, right?)

My parents never bought me Ken, but my friend had the Ken doll and we would come up with elaborate scenarios, a few weddings, and more than one kiss between Barbie and Ken.

The same birthday my parents got me a fuzzy and rambunctious little black poodle. I was in hog heaven. They named him Bimbo which didn't seem odd to me at the time but I've spent the last several years wondering about how they came up with that. There was a TV show on that time which was popular called Circus Boy and Circus Boy's best friend was an elephant named Bimbo. (Please tell me that there is one person on this board who is old enough to remember this show.)

Anyway Bimbo happily lived to be 15, but my Barbie bit the dust when I was 16. Wish I had kept this very first Barbie; a few years back this same doll was worth $3000-4000 to collectors for a pristine model. Of course, after all those dates and weddings and kisses with Ken, there was nothing pristine about my Barbie (he-he, if you know what I mean).

Oh, Barbie! I'm not sure what year mine is, but it's not one of the real valuable ones. I think I got it in 1962-63. I had a Ken doll as well.

I have 3 girl siblings, and we each got one for our birthdays. Mine has a reddish bouffant hairdo, my older sister's is a black bouffant, and my little sister's has a blonde ponytail.

OH, the memories. I still have my Barbie and Ken in the original patent leather blue case!

Wish I still had mine. My friends and I played dolls through age 12 (almost 13). Eleven years later I discovered dolls again and have been collecting ever since. I would love to have my childhood Barbie, Tiny Tears, and Shirley Temple. About 20 years ago I came across a mint in box Midge (Barbie's best friend); it still had the original plastic holding it in the box. Just like Christmas morning all over again! :)

Loved my dolls. My favorite was actually a Ginny doll, but I named her Debbie, but I have no clue why. I combed that poor thing's hair so much, she ended up with a case of alopecia!

I have also never had a birthday party. Not as a kid, not as an adult. I dont know why.

I have received gifts, but usally I am asked what I would like, and then receive what I say. I hate it. The one time I said, suprise me, my husband did nothing.

My son, who is turning 14 on Sunday, invited 12 of his friends from school over tonight for a sleepover pizza/birthday party. Here's how my b-day went. Got up early to work. Had work today, so not complaining about that, but was working on my b-day, instead of doing something nice for me. I sat and thanked God at least I had work, and told myself its just another day. Then taxes were due. We owe. Lovely! Husband slept all day.
