Birthday party etiquette for twins.

Posted: Nov 6, 2010

My daughter was invited to a birthday party for twins.  Each girl was allowed to invite two friends to the party.  So my daughter was invited by one of the twins.  My question is this, am I obligated to get both girls a present or just the one that invited her?

I think you have to give to both - Old part-timer

I guess the parents are mainly trying to limit the number of guests and I think you really should give to both, even if it means spending less on each than you would if you were giving a gift to only one of them. Besides, who knows whether both twins would have picked your daughter and only picked someone else in addition to add up to their allowance of 4 guests?

It would be best not to show favortism, I imagine your child is friends with both of them...

I went with two gifts, but when I got dropped - NKC

off my daughter, I saw girls bringing only one gift. Better safe than sorry. I always hate to do the wrong thing, ya know? I live in a very small town and you never know who you might offend and then you'll be the talk of the beauty shop come Monday morning! LOL.

Gawd only knows times change, but 15 years ago when my twin girls would have birthday presents, presents were only expected for the daughter who invited them, and theoretically, since they had equal number of invites, there was an equal number of gifts so nobody felt slighted, and even then, though, they didn't particularly care as to them the party was the important thing.

Birthday PartyDec 11, 2009
My son, who is turning 14 on Sunday, invited 12 of his friends from school over tonight for a sleepover pizza/birthday party.  I figured that out of the 12 he invited, at least a few wouldn't be able to make it.  The last few years he has only invited 6 or 7.  Can you believe that all 12 showed up!  The noise level is ridiculous, but everybody is having a lot of fun.   Gonna go take some pictures in a minute.      ...

Kid Has No Etiquette!Aug 20, 2013
My son's best friend is at our house quite a bit, along with other kids, we have kind of an open door policy with the kids friends.  The BFF of my son, this kid has zero etiquette and I'm not sure if I should say something to him or if that would make him feel bad or embarass him.  He is an only child, being raised by his grandparents and they do tend to spoil him.  At my house, like this weekend, I had a pack of 10 hotdogs that I cooked for 5 kids that were over.   ...

Etiquette QuestionJul 01, 2013
Just wondering what you ladies (or guys) thought about this.  My two kids generally have company over A LOT.  I have always had a policy that if I buy for one, I buy for all (meaning treats and such) while they are over at my house.  Well, my son has a friend, the boy is 13 and about a year ago his mom walked out, left the dad to raise him and since that time the dad has really spoiled the boy probably because of the situation or whatever.  When the boy's mom left, he st ...

Concert Etiquette?Oct 22, 2013
ARGH!!!! Lady sitting next to me was QUITE LARGE.  She occupied all of her seat and a portion of mine.  when that happens, they ought to have to buy 2 seats to accommodate their large body habitus. while waiting in line for bathroom, 2 ladies cut in line in front of me.  Yes, I did confront them and asked them to go to the end of the line and wait like the rest of us.  to which they replied "well everyone else is doing it."  I replied that "no, in fact, you are the onl ...

Dating Etiquette Opinions Wanted (sm)Apr 06, 2010
I met a guy a year ago right after I separated from my husband & dated him a few times - he really liked me, but I decided I wasn't ready to get serious with anyone.  Fast forward to a year later.  We have reconnected and have been talking on the phone and texting. He is very nice and intelligent and attractive to me in many ways.  EXCEPT over the course of this year he has gotten a pretty good sized cavity on one of his top canine teeth.  He has a good job... Question About Baby Shower Etiquette.Jan 29, 2015
My friend is having her second baby and she decided that I should throw her baby shower this time.  I said sure and I suggested a diaper shower since this is her second baby in a relatively short period of time (2 years) and she has found out she is having the same sex, so in my mind at least, she already has all the "stuff."  She seemed very offended by this, so fine I decided to call it a baby shower and let people decide on their own.  Now my friend has taken to checking in wit ...

Going To A Wake Tonight. Need Opinions On Sympathy Card Etiquette.Nov 05, 2009
We're going to a wake tonight for a friend who died unexpectedly.  He leaves behind his wife and two small children. I was thinking of writing out a check to include in the card but everything I've read lately says this is a no-no.  I know his wife doesn't make much so I'd really like to help out any way I can but I don't want to offend anybody. I was wondering what others normally do with sympathy cards at a wake. Thanks. ...

Today Was My BirthdayApr 16, 2014
Here's how my b-day went. Got up early to work.  Had work today, so not complaining about that, but was working on my b-day, instead of doing something nice for me.  I sat and thanked God at least I had work, and told myself its just another day. Then taxes were due.  We owe.  Lovely! Husband slept all day.  While I'm glad I had work, I would have loved to be sleeping all day.  Heard him snoring all the way to the other side of the house.  Lovely! ...

Happy Birthday To Someone Deceased- I Just Jan 19, 2010
Reading the obit column this morning from my home town. There was a lady who was killed about a month or so ago. She must have been well loved because so many have posted about her. This morning I am reading again and she is wished a "Happy Birthday." i see this time and time again in the papers and wondering, how do you have a happy birthday when deceased? I think writing something in rememberence about the person a much better way than wishing them a happy. ...

Grandchild's Birthday DilemaFeb 16, 2010
My son and DIL want to have my their son's third B-day party at my home this year.  This is the first time that I have my g-baby in town (they are a military family) for his birthday and I am going all out.  My daughter is coming in to town too, so it's doubly sweet for me as both my son and daughter hardly ever are able to visit at the same time.  I'm so excited, BUT... my very estranged ex also lives in my town.  He is a pot head, big drinker, crude, rude, c ...

Bloomberg's Birthday PresentFeb 14, 2013
Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz introduced Mayor Bloomberg for his annual State of the City address. In honor of Bloomberg's birthday: "And that’s what makes today so hard, what do you get the man who has everything? Everything – I thought long and hard. A cake? Happy 30th Birthday, Central AmericanJul 17, 2014
It's been fun to watch the media discuss the border crisis in real time, improvising their arguments on the fly. Let's try A, and if that doesn't work, we'll try B. First, they said there was no surge at the border -- it was a phony crisis manufactured by the Drudge Report. The facts on the ground quickly made that argument inoperable. Next, liberals told us these "undocumented migrants" (the PC phrase for "illegal aliens" -- because we'll never figure out what t ...

Bakers Refused To Make Pro-Trump Birthday Cake ForAug 08, 2017
A boy whose letter to President Trump made national headlines last month reportedly wanted a pro-Trump cake for his birthday party, but his mother was unable to find a baker willing to fulfill the order. At the July 26 White House press briefing, Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders read a letter from a boy named Dylan who said Mr. Trump was his favorite president. When she later released the letter publicly, the boy’s last name was blacked out. The only identifying clue was that everyone ...

The Tea Party (disgusting And Full Of Vitrole And Hatred) Are Not The Republican Party HopefullyApr 17, 2011
I hope with everything I have in me that the Tea Party does not represent the Republican Party. This is what the Tea Party stands for. They are full of vitriole and hatred. This is not what the Republican party stands for. See comments by Republican Party of Orange County Chairman Scott Baugh, "It's just highly inappropriate, it's a despicable message, it drips with racism and I think she should step down from the committee," said Baugh. "Davenport, a tea party activist, represents t ...
