Need a good potluck recipe for HOT weather get-together

Posted: Jul 15, 2010

We have a family reunion this weekend which is about an hour away from home.  We're supposed to bring a dish to pass.  It's supposed to be over 90 degrees on Saturday, so I need something that will travel well and be a good hot weather dish.  I believe they will be cooking out burgers, brats, etc. for the main dish.  Anybody got anything that they use that people just love?  I'd love some suggestions.

Look in the spice area of your local store for "Salad Supreme" (It would either be McCormick or Schilling depending on where you are -- they have an absolutely FABULOUS pasta recipie on the back and you can use ANY kind of pasta and what I have done as well is browned mini meatballs and put them in or cut them in half -- great for a hot summer day and no mayo involved :)

Spaghetti salad - Yummy

Reading the above message about the pasta salad reminded me of this one I had at a BBQ one time.

1 box extra thin spaghetti.
1 green pepper
1 red pepper
1/2 large cucumber
1-2 ripe tomatoes
1 package good seasonings italian dressing made as per directions

Cook the spaghetti, drain and cool completely.
Finely chop the peppers cucumber and tomatoes.
Make the good seasoning dressing. Coat spaghetti and add other ingredients and mix well.

Chill at least 24 hours.

not really a recipe - Sasha J.

I did this for our family reunion and last barbecue and it was a huge success!

Just get the biggest watermelon you can find and make a melon bowl. Then chunk up the pieces, add cantalope, honey dew, green and red seedless grapes, strawberries, blue berries and chill very well! Top with sugared mint leaves. It makes it's own fruit juice and is so refreshing in the hot weather. Get creative too! It's a beautiful centerpiece. My mom does hers with a "handle" and it looks like a basket, i'm just not that coordinated!

Need Good Grits RecipeDec 04, 2014
Hi All- I had a really good shrimp and grits dinner a while back while on vacation. I've tried the Internet, but OMG, there are soooo many, I don't know where to begin. The recipe I had was with cheddar cheese, and the grits were ohhh, sooo, creamy. Someone gave me some grits (the real McCoy, not quick, not instant), and I'd love to use them. Anyone have any good grits recipes? I don't mean grits as a side for breakfast, I'm talking about as a meal for dinner ...

Looking For A Good Chicken Enchilada RecipeJan 29, 2012
Since watching so many episodes of Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares we will probably never eat at another restaurant again LOL Hence, I am looking for recipes that will give us a variety of the food we love to eat. Right now I'm looking for a good chicken enchilada recipe. It's our favorite Mexican dish, actually DHs favorite is chile relleno, but that is way past my cooking skills. I figured chicken enchiladas should be pretty simple. I'd like to make them like the res ...

Anyone Have A Good Recipe For Pumpkin Custard?Nov 09, 2010
That way I can enjoy the taste without the guilt of pie crust.   Thanks!  By the way. . . A few weeks back someone posted a recipe for pumpkin cookies;  using the can of pumpkin and a spice cake mix.  I made those and took them to the campground for my friend's Halloween party.   They were a big hit, and so many people asked for the recipe.  Thanks so much!  So many compliments for something so easy!   I used the cream cheese frost ...

Anyone Have A Good Lemon Bread/cake RecipeDec 24, 2009
Okay, just made a lemon bread.  It is moist but not as lemony as I would like.  Safeway makes a good lemony cake (or bread) thing.  So moist and lemony and I'd like to make something similar.  This recipe I just made called for 3/4 c. lemon yogurt and 1 tablepoon lemon rind.  It is moist but not a real lemon flavor (faint lemon flavor).   I tried another recipe using a lemon cake and added a box of lemon pudding.  Again, most but not real lemony.   ...

Thanks in advance for any help with this one!  It's been so crazy around here that I forgot to order one.  Call me the terrible daughter. ...

Bad WeatherApr 17, 2011
Hope you all made it through the terrible weather yesterday in the southeastern part of the country, and northeastern states.  What a night!  Our local TV station said there was definite possibility of a tornado in West York.  I live in the northwest part of York, PA.  About 8:15 things changed dramatically.   I ran from the livingroom into the bathroom, and I literally covered my head with pillows.  I live in an apartment and have the second and third f ...

Weather In Charlotte, NC --- The DNCSep 06, 2012
Someone posted earlier that the forecast for Charlotte is the same as it was for Wednesday. They said the reason the venue of the President's speech was changed for Thursday was because they could not get enough people to fill up the 65,000 seats in the Bank of America Stadium. Well, that poster is wrong. I live here, so I know. Tuesday evening, we had one of the worst lightening storms we have had in several years. Thunder boomed and the ground shook. Lightening streaked across the sky ...

I Want To Be A Vikings Fan, Not Have Minnesota's WeatherFeb 06, 2010
So, as per my somewhat routine insomnia, I got no sleep last night.  I went to lie down this morning and heard my husband get in his car.  Then I heard him get stuck.  It took both of us at 5:30 a.m. almost 40 minutes to shovel all the snow and get his car out of the driveway.  Then, he got stuck at the bottom of the street.  Thankfully, a very nice neighbor heard him and came up with his plow, got him unstuck, and plowed the way for him all the way to the main road ...

UTD Fox News Blurb, Weather And Sports WhileJun 16, 2014
I went to a newly opened Shell station to get a half tank of gas.  As soon as my pre-purchased card cleared to begin the transaction, a video monitoring changed from showing a still picture of something you could buy inside to a recent news blurb of local events, followed by a three day forecast of weather in my area, a commercial inviting me to buy Snickers by running inside, finally followed by a Fox sports cast, all timed perfectly from the start of the transaction to the last 30 seconds ...

Hot Weather Lunch Ideas For Picky EaterOct 04, 2014
We live in a very hot environment and have no air conditioning, so it gets extremely hot in our house. I'm trying to get some lunch ideas that don't involve turning the stove or oven on at all, but my husband is extremely picky and I am not creative at all when it comes to food. Extreme Weather At All Time Lows As Climax Hoax Apr 29, 2017
The Church of Global Warming has many followers and, because it’s a cult-like religious belief to them, no amount of hard data will ever convince them they adhere to the teachings of a false god. Nevertheless, it is incumbent upon the non-establishment, honest alternative media to report what is and what isn’t: And what isn’t is the supposed increase in “extreme weather” due to “global warming/climate change” caused by humans. Climate Depot points this out in a new report tha ...

Cookie Recipe?Oct 20, 2009
My grandmom and my mom used to make these cookies at Christmas that were made with baking ammonia, yup, ammonia.  Sounds awful and the stuff smells horrible too.  You had to buy it from a pharmacist, and they still do sell it.  I did ask before going on this search!   They were the most wonderful cookies.  They would just melt in your mouth.  All I recall is that they were round cookies with kind of little cracks all around the edges and you coated them wi ...
