I went to a newly opened Shell station to get a half tank of gas. As soon as my pre-purchased card cleared to begin the transaction, a video monitoring changed from showing a still picture of something you could buy inside to a recent news blurb of local events, followed by a three day forecast of weather in my area, a commercial inviting me to buy Snickers by running inside, finally followed by a Fox sports cast, all timed perfectly from the start of the transaction to the last 30 seconds of pumping.
Geez, good thing I was not involved with a phone call - it was too loud to have a conversation either on the phone or with someone standing nearby. There was no off or mute button. Just when I thought it was safe to pump gas without being subjected to current events.... This will eventually be forced on all of us, I suppose. Hope they don't include commercials for hemorrhoid cream or feminine hygiene products. Those are bad enough in the privacy of my home while I'm preparing dinner with the kids around.
