My eyes are already scanning the world,

Posted: Mar 8, 2014

Just saw something on TV which helps people be speed readers, working started slowly and then got up to 600 wpm. I could keep up with it because that is my line of work, just scanning words as fast as my eyes will go. I don't know if others go through this but my eyes can pick up words all over the place including restaurants, cleaners, newspapers, anywhere I go that are incorrectly spelled. I now seem to speed read everything.  Anyone else?

I have always been quick to notice errors on signs, menus, things like that, but ever since I started transcribing/editing, I seem to have a sharper eye.

Is that what you mean?

Yes, by scanning the world exactly what I - meant, you do too I see

I think with VR my eye for mistakes has gotten more acute. There was a test on TV that started slow and sped up to 600 wpm and I kept up with it well. When you take into consideration that is what we are now trained to do, speed reading is a breeze.

I tried - I don't like it. DH does though - Laid back Lilly

I've tried speed reading. I trained myself to scan over words really fast (it was a thing/fad of the 90s). Sure I picked up words and would get the "jist" of what was written and used my imagination to figure out the in-between stuff. The problem that I personally had with that was that I couple times I'd go back and it as all the in-between stuff that was important. I found I enjoyed books more when I took my time and read the story and used my imagination to picture things the way they were written and read all the in-between stuff the author thought was important, rather than just hurrying to look at words here and there. Now, my husband does speed reading and he likes it fine. He said he doesn't need to read all the little words to understand what the article says. Maybe because I'm a bit slower and more laid back than he is. I just felt like I was missing out on so much. He likes speed reading though.

I figure someone took the time to write - Val

the book or article -- and if it's beautifully written, it should be savored.

The crap we type -- I breeze thru it to pop in the little words that VR always misses.

Flashing objects give me headaches - I would - never use this - nm

My Eyes.Jan 05, 2010
All of the sudden, a couple of days ago, I noticed that my vision is extremely blurry after I stop working.  I can see the computer screen just fine, but when I look away I have to squint and can hardly see.  I'm also having some double vision. After a couple of hours, it gets better and I can see normally again.  This just started and it happens very soon after I start working.  I have increased the text size on my screen and increased the light in the room to try to l ...

Red Dog EyesJun 10, 2010
My stepfather's dog has had redness of her eyes for some months now.  She does not attempt to scratch at them and shows no sign of being in any kind of distress.  He takes such wonderful care of his pets, and I am there much of the time.  I have encouraged him on several occasions to just check it out to be safe.  He is not a worrier and says he thinks she is okay, and that it must be an allergy.  I have mentioned it nicely several times and don't know what el ...

Paul Ryan's Eyes -- Seriously....Mar 10, 2013
Am I the only one who thinks there is something seriously off about Paul Ryan's eyes?  Years ago, I read that when the whites of the eyes show below the irises, it's an indication of something--I can't remember quite what, but I think it was a negative thing.  That look has always given me a bit of a chill.  I believe some thyroid conditions cause a similar look, so maybe that's it.   ...

Red Eyes, Weight Loss - HyperthyroidismMar 06, 2016
I'm catching up on medical problems after being without insurance for years.  For the past year I have had weight loss, red eyes and a fine tremor at times.  TSH was normal but T3 & T4 were very high.  I'd been hypothyroid most of my life (35 years), now diagnosed with hyperthyroidism & Grave's disease.  Had thyroid uptake 24 hour scan.  The endocrinologist said that in 18 years of practice, the highest thyroid uptake he had seen was 60% in a patie ...

What In The World Am I Going To Say To My MIL!Jan 20, 2010
Will try to make a long story short.  I love my MIL.  We get along great.  She comes to visit every couple of months and stays for the weekend.  She has had some serious drug/alcohol problems in the past (in remission for 3-4 years), but 2 years ago had an actual suicide plan.  She has had several psych admissions, is heavily medicated at times, but seems fine lately, and is under psych care.  Occasionally she has said about my 3-year-old, "When he is older and ...

Why In The World Is It People Always Want To Dec 16, 2015
I realize that's a question with a wide range of answers possible. This town seems to have a lot of ghetto-y, trashy type people who always want to settle any type of dispute, no matter how minor,  by fighting.   Offering someone to  "square up" and beat the crap out of them. That's really going to prove or accomplish something?   Seems to me all it proves or accomplishes is that people are too ignorant or lazy to discuss facts in a reasonable manner, mu ...
