My eyes.

Posted: Jan 5, 2010

All of the sudden, a couple of days ago, I noticed that my vision is extremely blurry after I stop working.  I can see the computer screen just fine, but when I look away I have to squint and can hardly see.  I'm also having some double vision.

After a couple of hours, it gets better and I can see normally again.  This just started and it happens very soon after I start working.  I have increased the text size on my screen and increased the light in the room to try to lessen the strain on my eyes, but it's not making any difference.  I have also been taking frequent breaks to rest my eyes.

Yesterday, right after work, my boyfriend and I wanted to go out for dinner, but I was actually afraid to drive because my vision was so terribly blurry and kind of double as well.

What is causing this?  Do I just need to get glasses?  My vision is normally fine, 20/20.  It's really starting to worry me.

Blurry eyes - oldone

Several years ago when I was in my 30s, I was working several jobs in order to finance my daughter's college career. I did see an ophthalmologist for the same problem you are having. Was told I had eye strain and needed to spend 10 minutes an hour NOT looking at a computer screen (can you see convincing a boss that you have to not look at a computer 80 minutes a day!) Anyway, I had eye strain. Pure and simple. A word of caution though...now I am a diabetic and one of the very first symptoms I had was blurry vision. So, get your blood sugars checked. Good idea to purchase a cheap monitor and test strips and lancets. WalMart has one that is fairly cheap, especially if you are only testing occasionally. Test about an hour after you eat. Test one morning before you eat anything. Keep a little log. If sugars are high, go see your doc. Not saying you have diabetes...probably just eye strain but you need to take care of yourself now. Not sure how young you are but still do it now. Hope this helps.

Thank you - blurry

I am in my early 30s. It's just so strange because I can see the computer screen no problem, but when I look away everything is so very blurry. It's more annoying than anything :)

I will rest my eyes more often and will take your advice about checking sugars. My grandfather was a diabetic, so there is a history of it in my family.

Thank you for the heads up.

Red Dog EyesJun 10, 2010
My stepfather's dog has had redness of her eyes for some months now.  She does not attempt to scratch at them and shows no sign of being in any kind of distress.  He takes such wonderful care of his pets, and I am there much of the time.  I have encouraged him on several occasions to just check it out to be safe.  He is not a worrier and says he thinks she is okay, and that it must be an allergy.  I have mentioned it nicely several times and don't know what el ...

Paul Ryan's Eyes -- Seriously....Mar 10, 2013
Am I the only one who thinks there is something seriously off about Paul Ryan's eyes?  Years ago, I read that when the whites of the eyes show below the irises, it's an indication of something--I can't remember quite what, but I think it was a negative thing.  That look has always given me a bit of a chill.  I believe some thyroid conditions cause a similar look, so maybe that's it.   ...

My Eyes Are Already Scanning The World,Mar 08, 2014
Just saw something on TV which helps people be speed readers, working started slowly and then got up to 600 wpm. I could keep up with it because that is my line of work, just scanning words as fast as my eyes will go. I don't know if others go through this but my eyes can pick up words all over the place including restaurants, cleaners, newspapers, anywhere I go that are incorrectly spelled. I now seem to speed read everything.  Anyone else? ...

Red Eyes, Weight Loss - HyperthyroidismMar 06, 2016
I'm catching up on medical problems after being without insurance for years.  For the past year I have had weight loss, red eyes and a fine tremor at times.  TSH was normal but T3 & T4 were very high.  I'd been hypothyroid most of my life (35 years), now diagnosed with hyperthyroidism & Grave's disease.  Had thyroid uptake 24 hour scan.  The endocrinologist said that in 18 years of practice, the highest thyroid uptake he had seen was 60% in a patie ...
