I am from the generation of Free Love, Hippies, Vietnam and college demonstrations against war. As a teenager I watched JFK being assasinated and watched as LBJ took office then. I suppose that our music reflected the changes in our society and politics too. We had so many wonderful classic age rock groups and singers -- Rolling Stones, Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Eric Clapton, the Doors, Crazy Joe Macdonald, Fleetwood Mac, Cat Stevens, Carol King and on and on. There are just so many great singers, it is hard to list them all. I have great memories of Buffalo Springfield, which became Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. They were all so creative and you never got bored listening to so many different types of music.
I think with our present day music, they have lost this sense of creativity. We no longer have music like the Beach Boys or Beatles. There are no great female singers like Carly Simon or Joan Baez or Linda Ronstadt. Have we lost beautiful lyrics like those from Elton John and Cat Stevens and John Denver. Maybe I am being unfair or prejudicial in criticizing the modern age of music, but to me it is all fast singing with loud acoustics and no real meaning to the lyrics, just noise for the sake of noise.
Well like I said I am now old and a senior citizen, but I do have wonderful memories of great music -- a legacy of wonderful songs from my generation to cherish forever.
