How much is your gas today?

Posted: Jan 7, 2011

A while back I posted a message that the oil commodity prices were going up and the last time oil was about $90, gas went to over $4.00.  Do you think there is less oil out there?

The last time gas prices increased that much, oil companies reported record profits and Bush was president.  Hmmm.  Republicans have the House.

I think I will go buy some oil stock.

back before Christmas, at one time reaching $3.00 a gallon. Now, depending on where you buy gas, it ranges between $2.76 a gallon and over $3.00 a gallon. Democrats had the house at that time.

I saw an article recently or an interview (cannot remember which) where the ex-CEO of Shell stated that he believes that gas prices will be $5.00 or more a gallon by the end of 2011. I was never able to read or hear why he thinks this and again, this was before Christmas when Democrats had the house. Still think that it is party-related? I think not.

Yup, because with Republicans in, it is open season on consumers - sm

Most of the country is just starting to notice the increase. More is coming.

I have noticed that - sm

the Republicans want to take credit for everything since the November election, so you can take credit for your Christmas gas prices, too, I guess.

you people are very smart huh - thank God they took over

[ In Reply To ..]
Republicans hadn\'t taken over the house at Christmas yet and them JUST taking it over, yes they must have told EVERY Gas station to start raising their prices.

Hey, what happened to the last 2 years... gas never dropped significantly once... while it\'s down like $1.00 from its highest point where I live, it\'s still up $1.50 from when I first started driving 10 years ago.

It\'s inflation, and supply and demand.

I am HAPPY the republicans are in now, I\'d rather pay a little more in gas and KEEP MORE OF MY PAYCHECK, WHAT I WORK FOR!!!

I am with you... and dont worry, they always do this, - blame in on Bush when all else fails..lol.nm

Of course she could never admit that the reason they lost is because of them.

They still have no clue. One of the reasons they were fired.

The oil companies have to raise their prices so they can make even bigger profits this year since they can keep getting their tax breaks now. Maybe their profits can top our deficit and they can still cry that they are not making enough money. Hopefully, people will get smart and look into alternative ways of transportation. Ride a bike when you can or walk and save some money and use less gas. Make less trips to the store. Combine errands. If you need a car this year, consider electric. Car pool. Whatever it takes.

This could be a way to get people to start wanting them to drill in our beautiful wildlife areas for oil and destroy them. I hope people think enough of our wildlife and don't go for that. The best way is to use less and less oil. Let's get with it already.

Don't drill in the US because we would rather - sm

continue to get oil from other countries that either use that money to use against us because they hate us and/or they are not environment friendly countries and have no regulations to keep them from destroying the environment. That makes a whole heck of a lot of sense. Do any of you even realize the spills that other countries have had that haven't been reported on because those countries don't see it as a big deal. We have no other feasible alternative right now. Until we have an alternative fueld source....we have no choice but to use oil and I, for one, would prefer to drill here so we aren't giving money to other countries that hate us and we are definitely more concerned about the environment and would do as much as we could to protect it while drilling.

drill - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Let them drill in your back yard! Yeah, we'd do about as much as we did to prevent the Gulf oil spill. Whatever! You are like most people, don't give a crap about the earth or environment, just yourself. I don't care how much gas gets, I do not want them drilling here.
So you would prefer giving our money - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
to countries who hate us and want to kill us as well as to countries who don't have near the environmental regulations that we have here? That doesn't even make sense. Oil is okay as long as you don't see the damage it does in other countries because they don't give a rat's behind about the environment?

Our only option for fuel is oil right now. We have no consistent alternative. Environmentalists don't want windmills because they look bad and kill bats. You can't use solar in deserts because environmentalists say you have to scrape a whole ecosystem out of the desert to install the system. So what is your alternative fuel source? The Obama administration scrapped the idea of hydrogen vehicles. Ethonal, IMO, is not feasible as you cannot use a food source as fuel because we consume too much fuel.

So many things are made with oil...so many things you use on a daily basis that you don't even think about. You don't want them drilling here because you worry about your back yard but you don't have a reasonable solution to stopping our dependency on oil.

I have a problem with foreign oil because they have MORE oil spills because of lack of environmental regulation as well as they use that money to try and kill us.

So considering there is no alternative fuel source...I'd rather drill here and get our own oil so we don't fund those who wish us dead...at least until there is an alternative source of fuel.

Here is a link talking about ANWAR in Alaska.

As for you crying and whining about oil spills....in the Gulf of Mexico alone, over 5,000 barrels of oil a day seeps out from vents in the earth into the ocean. It̢۪s part of the earth, and obviously ocean life continues every year despite over two million barrels of oil escaping in the Gulf of Mexico alone....a very small body of water compared to the Oceans, which experience the same phenomenon. If the Gulf can survive two million barrels a year, just think how much seepage takes place in any of the oceans. It would probably be enough to make an environmentalist sick.

wow do you live on a house boat - cool

Here you go blaming one political party for gas prices like the other side has no blame at all. Sheesh. I'm so sick of some of you people on here. You instantly blame the republican majority that was JUST sworn in and yet say nothing about it being OBAMA's administration. Yet you blame Bush for everything and yet the democrats had the majority the last 2 years of Bush's administration....which is when everything went into the crapper.

Here is a link that explains the factors that affect gas prices.

They will tell you the supply is down - why is that?

[ In Reply To ..]
And by the way, the pubs started blaming Obama before he even took office. Sheesh.

Exaggerate much? - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
We may have mentioned his short fallings as a senator and lack of experience for the presidency...but I'd say you are exaggerating a bit about us 'blaming' Obama before he took office. Sheesh!

The republicans were just sworn in and many on this board are already blaming them for everything...so talk about the pot calling the kettle black here.

As for your question about supply being down...I don't know why they say that. I do know there are some who say we are running out of oil..not sure if this gets the 'supply is down' excuse going or what.

Furthermore, Barack Obama admitted it on TV, Democrats in Congress have voted 86% of the time in favor of high gas prices. So perhaps you ought to look at your own political party and what they have voted for before you start bashing republicans about gas prices. Just a thought. ;) Have a nice day!
I like it - cause you are right

but sensibility isn't seen by Dems easily. Of course they won't take any blame for their party, but put it all on the other. If it weren't for double standards, liberals wouldn't have any standards at all.

Hmmmm. Then what's the excuse now? - Backwards Typist

The pubs were just sworn in this week and you can't state that it's because they are taking over the House that it affected oil prices in JULY 2010.

This from an article from JULY 2010.

All of the U.S. oil majors reported vastly improved results from last year, benefiting from some greater growth in the economy – and on Friday, Chevron was not the exception.

The second-largest U.S. oil company by market value after ExxonMobil said its second-quarter earnings more than tripled, driven by higher oil prices and a surge on refining earnings, a sector until recently in the doldrums.

Chevron posted a profit of $5.41 billion, more than triple its earnings in the same quarter last year. Exxon̢۪s income shot up 91% to $7.56 billion. ConocoPhillips, the third largest U.S. oil company, saw its adjusted earnings triple to $2.5 billion.

Republicans have the house??? You do know they were just sworn in a couple days ago don't you? Gas prices have been going up for some time now. Not just since a couple days ago when they were sworn in.

You need to do better than that...blaming rising gas prices that have been going up for months and months now on republicans being sworn in a couple days ago is not going to fly. Sheesh!!!!

What's next, the mail scare today is because of the republicans? The snow storm and 10 car pile up was republicans fault? The magnetic north pole shift that impacted Tampa airport is the republicans fault?

Guess I didn't miss anything over the holiday same ol same ol of blaming republicans for things that aren't their fault and things that happened under the democrats watch.

Geez o Pete people - get a grip.
