get along with people of all faiths (or no faith), no problem. But these people from Westboro Baptist "Church" seem like nutjobs to me. (One of my dearest friends is a Baptist and she is NOTHING like these people.) I wish these people would just shut up and go away. They used to come to California and make life tough for the families of people who died from AIDS.

I don't understand why they are permitted to call themselves - a church. (sm)

But it is completely beyond my understanding what enables them to call themselves a church. Personally, I think if they want to create unrest and hatred in communities all over the country, they certainly should not be allowed tax-exempt status.

California has several cities with large gay populations, esp. San Francisco and Los Angeles. These "church" people have come to both of these cities and disrupted funerals of people who died of AIDS. I used to volunteer with AIDS patients, and it really made me mad to see what these Westboro people were doing. If they had spent as much time helping as they did hating, they might have made a positive difference.

Westboro Baptist Church makes it their mission to protest the funerals of groups they believe God hates. They have protested at the funerals of American soldiers because the soldiers were gay. They are a hateful, deranged bunch of people. It's not reasonable that they get to call themselves a church.

Thank heavens most of the media did not cover this. They are vile, ignorant people. It's bad enough they protest soldiers funerals, but now they were protesting Elizabeth Edwards death!
