I rarely if ever ask anyone for favors except my husband, but as far as out of my household I don't. My husband's brother doesn't mind asking a favor and neither does his wife. We recently did them a big favor; however, when we asked for one in return, never got an answer. So I was like okay they can ask but they can't give. We actually loaned them my husband's pickup while they are short a vehicle because my hubbie rarely is here to drive the pickup. When we asked to have some paperwork mailed to their house from the school for my son because right now we are living out of district temporarily for a few months, we got no answer, which I took as a no. I'm not one to keep nagging someone so I left it alone. They are still borrowing husband's truck mind you. So I said okay no biggie I just won't do them any favors anymore. Can you believe had the nerve to call me and ask me to keep their child who is 2 because his wife doesn't feel well; however, she feels well enough to surf the internet and get on facebook all day and chat and play games. I told him I would let him know and see. How can people be so selfish? It's like they have no problem asking for favors but don't like to be asked in return, which I RARELY ask anyone for a favor. It's just not in my nature.

What would you do?

they can ask you for anything and you'll give it. Get that truck back. Then, learn to say no.

I have family like yours and I finally learned to say no. We're not speaking anymore, though. I guess that's the price.

People who borrow and borrow and take and take know you'll continue to give because they know you want them in your life. That's their leverage.

As for my situation, I finally gave up and let 'em go.

Remember all the criminal trouble a mom got into last year when she enrolled a kid in a different district than the one in which they lived? I think it was in Ohio, but I'm not sure.... And to the OP. What you asked them to do is illegal and I wouldn't have done it either. The people who live in the district you are illegally sending your kids to are paying taxes to educate your kids. My taxes are through the roof because of people like that.
