Cost of eyeglasses??

I need single-vision glasses. I have the frames. My eye doctor charges $192 for the eyeglass lenses only. Does anyone know what Costco and/or Walmart charges? TYIA.

If you have AARP or AAA card there is a discount at some places. I found using one of those cards was cheaper than using my eyeglass insurance. Needless to say, I dropped the insurance. I was going to Sears and sometimes you can get 2 pair for $99.

The exam was $99. They had 4 or 5 different prices for the lenses. I got the second most expenisve with the transition/darkening effect and I paid $210. There was 1 more level above that which was more expensive and 2 or 3 below which were cheaper. I'm sure you could get them cheaper than $192 for sure. Before making an appointment, I would go into a Walmart vision center and bring your frames and ask if they could put lenses in there. If they say yes, ask about the prices. They have this little mat thing right there on the desk with all the prices and features of the lenses. Good luck!

If you have a Walmart or Costco/Sam's close by, bring them your Rx from the eye doc. Ask if they'll honor another doc's Rx. They may or may not--I'm guessing if they didn't do the eye vision exam, they may not give you a guarantee.

There are lots of eyeglass centers out there---the eye doc (especially if he's an ophthalmologist)is the most expensive way to go. An optometrist in a private office is cheaper than an ophthalmologist, but I think since your Rx isn't complicated, you should be fine at one of the big vision centers.

Go online to Zennioptical.com. I have been getting my glasses there for years. I have graduated bifocals and they cost $56!! They do a great job, too. You post your picture on there and you try on the frames. It's great! Hope this helps.

I know someone who uses an online company for eye glasses--not sure if it's the same one mentioned here--and he's been very happy.

I personally don't want to do that because if there's a problem with the Rx or something, it's a big deal to send them back, etc. I prefer to stay local.

Paste the above link into your web address bar. They are called the "Lions Club." I got my first pair of glasses brand new from them when I didnt have insurance. They will pay for a new eye exam, lenses, the entire pair of glasses. They are located throughout the US. There should be a contact number on their site which could provide you with the info for what you need to go based on your state. Good Luck! A lot of people dont know about them but they have been around for years and are located all over the US.

Your frame selection will be minimal, usually old and outdated. You will not get any upgrades like Progressives, Transitions, and antireflective, UV and scratch coat. (I worked at optometrist's office.)

I asked where she got her glasses because I didnt have vision insurance at the time and she said she got them through the Lions Club and hers were pretty fasionable. She said it was about time for her to get new ones and that I could go with her and I did. I got nice glasses, brand new frames and received compliments on them up until it was time for me to switch them out for a new pair. I saw check into it, dont take my word for it. Check it out for yourself.

PS - Look into it for yourself. If you dont like the glasses go elsewhere. - Also, you are likely to get them dirt cheap or..

free based on your circumstances. If you dont like the glasses you can always go elsewhere, but again, mine were fairly cute and I just changed them out about 2 years ago and up until that point I was still receiving compliments.

I got regular and then 4 pair of sunglasses and the cost was over $600.00. I never get scratch resistent as I never lay glasses on the glass part down, and the UV that people try to talk you into (at extra cost). The people say to prevent cataracts. I have heard you will get cataracts if you live long enough, no matter what kind of glasses you have or don't for that matter. Had Transitions years ago and did not care for those.

The Walmart in the neighborhood adjacent to mine will charge $29 for the lenses and $10 for the cost of using my own frames. I can afford that $39 for the no-frills, single-vision pair of glasses. (I was informed that every Walmart has different pricing and that that is why their prices are not posted on-line.)

Special thank you to the person who posted about the Lions Club. I have been donating my old glasses to them for years and years. In fact, I collected old glasses from my mom, sister and neighbors and donated 10 pair to them on Christmas Eve. They also help people with hearing aids. They are a wonderful organization!!
