Does anyone know how much an MRI or x-ray would cost

Posted: Mar 26, 2010

I have only catastrophic insurance and have to pay for everything out of pocket.  For months my arm has been bothering me.  Can't move it out to the side or front (can't even do a full heil hitler salute (LOL).  It just won't move and I get pains in the infraspinatus muscle and then shooting pains down the outside of the arms.  It doesn't bother me all day, but if I jerk my arm fast, or bump it I get the pains down my arm.  Can't lift my arm up or anything.  Since I basically have no health insurance, and have to pay over $300 a month to have "no" insurance I don't have the money to go to the doc and pay for tests, etc.

I am first wondering if anyone has had a problem like this and if anyone has any suggestions to home remedy it.  Second, just wondering if anyone know what the cost would be out of my pocket if I did need an xry or MRI.

TIA for any help anyone can offer.

It doesn't really sound like a bone problem, so I doubt x-ray would do much good. I only have experience with a lumbar MRI, and that was $5500. I paid $900 out of pocket for that including my deductible. I would assume an arm MRI might be a little less, and you might be able to negotiate a better rate directly through the imaging center as a self-pay patient.

If that is way out of the question, then I would try to find a physical therapist or a book on physical therapy or online videos that might help you find some exercises to begin to get your range of motion back before any further damange is done. You should apply heat before exercise and ice afterwards. Start very slowly. Good luck!

Cost Of Getting Braces Going UpJan 11, 2013
Obamacare Medical Device Tax: As of Jan.1, Obamacare imposes a new tax of 2.3 percent on medical device manufacturers, including those who make dental braces. The tax is imposed on gross sales -- even if the company does not earn a profit in a given year. While the tax will be paid to the IRS by the manufacturer, the tax will be passed along as a higher cost of the product, ultimately to be borne by the parent buying the braces for their child. With the cost of braces being as high as $7,625 ...

Do Doctor's Visit Really Cost This Much?Sep 08, 2016
So, I'm one of those people generally don't go to the doctor unless they are spurting blood across the room, but... A couple months ago, I found a lump in my breast, so I made an appointment with a GYN. I went there, they had me leave a urine sample, he felt the lump, wrote me a referral to a breast surgeon and for a mammogram/ultrasound and told me it would definitely need to be biopsied (freaking me out some more) and that was it. I had the mammogram/ultrasound. His office call ...

Tea Party Could Cost Republicans In CensusApr 06, 2010
By John ByrneMonday, April 5th, 2010 -- 9:00 am Republicans were thrilled when Tea Party-backed Scott Brown won a special election to capture Ted Kennedy's Senate seat in Massachusetts. But they're not quite as thrilled with the Tea Party now. Angst at the government in power may fuel some conservatives to boycott the US census, costing their party coveted seats in Congress for years to come. Republicans could also lose seats in state legislatures if districts are redrawn. The US po ...

The University of Missouri’s (MU) flagship Columbia campus has officially lost a staggering 23 percent of its freshman class this year, an even worse figure than administrators initially predicted in the wake of major racial strife. The big enrollment drop at MU has been brewing for months, but finally became a reality this week with the start of fall term on campus. MU’s freshman class this year has some 4,799 students, a drop of over 1,400 from last year, when freshmen numbered 6,211. ...

The Cost Of Obama's Regulatory ExplosionJan 30, 2013
Double the cost of 16 years under Bush and Clinton. By JEFFREY H. ANDERSON As Adam White discusses in detail, there’s nothing moderate or incremental about the increase in federal regulations — and hence in centralized executive power — under President Obama. To the contrary (as White notes), according to figures published by the Obama White House (see table 2-1), the costs of regulations issued by this administration have dwarfed the costs of regulations issued by prior admini ...

I Think The Cost Of Birth Control Is A Problem For Jul 01, 2014
I know when I was young and needed it most people actually had some money left over to pay for stuff like that after your essentials came out - can any of us MTs honestly say we could afford birth control today if we had to use it? And we are not the only ones who have been victims of corporations lowering and lowering your pay while prices in the real world went up and up. I do think free contraception is a good thing. Contraception stops unwanted pregnancy = prevents abortion. I think this ...

Raising The Medicare Eligibility Age Would Cost Patients About Twice As Much,Dec 06, 2012
"When economists and policymakers worry about the long-term fiscal crisis, what they’re mostly worried about is Medicare. That’s why a persistent idea during this fiscal cliff season is raising the Medicare eligibility age from 65 to 67. It’s an idea that appears superficially to have many virtues. Bringing the Medicare retirement age into line with the Social Security retirement age seems logical. The change is simple to describe to journalists and the public."  & ...

Dementia Care Cost Is Projected To Double By 2040Apr 04, 2013
The most rigorous study to date of how much it costs to care for Americans with dementia found that the financial burden is at least as high as that of heart disease or cancer, and is probably higher. And both the costs and the number of people with dementia will more than double within 30 years, skyrocketing at a rate that rarely occurs with a chronic disease.
