Uh-oh - Walmart raising cost of healthcare. (sm)

Posted: Nov 12, 2012

Healthcare costs will go up between 8% and 36%.  Obamacare will save us money - sure it will.   Gullible people - who voted for this liar?  Not me.

Since 2001, premiums for family health coverage have increased 78 percent, according to a 2007 report by the Kaiser Family Foundation. Premiums averaged $12,106, of which workers paid $3,281, according to the report.

How do you like them apples?
Yes, Walmart says costs were rising for years and their - changes are NOT BECAUSE OF THE ACA. SM

"Rossiter, a Wal-Mart spokesman, said the decision to deny coverage to new part-time employees resulted from the company’s revamping of its health care offerings in light of rising costs.

“Over the last few years, we’ve all seen our health care rates increase and it’s probably not a surprise that this year will be no different,” Mr. Rossiter said. “We made the difficult decision to raise rates that will affect our associates’ medical costs. The decisions made were not easy, but they strike a balance between managing costs and providing quality care and coverage.”

The company said the changes were not a result of the new federal health care law.

These moves are also occurring in a postrecession period when Wal-Mart has been struggling to regain its footing after months of disappointing or flat sales. And with unemployment still hovering around 9 percent, employers may feel less compelled to offer expansive benefits to people desperate for work."

The rest of a comprehensive and responsible article at the link below. Walmart tried an experiment in offering healthcare benefits to employees who would not have been covered by other employers. Sales have flattened, though, and they decided it was costing them too much money.
Health care premiums only increased by 4% this year - lots less than Bushs 10+%

Health insurance is now covering alot of preventive care and kids can stay on family policies until they are 26 now. A wonderful thing for my friend and her diabetic son. I am looking forward to the full implementation.
Me too. Just hope nothing happens for the next - year. We'd be paying off not just the

deductible but all the unpaid coinsurance and more than "usual-and-customary" costs for years, assuming I could still work after a major illness. It's really just catastrophic insurance we were changed to at Nuance, no alternatives offered.

Last January I had the annual physical Obamacare requires them to cover 100% in return for my expensive premium payments, but I haven't seen a doctor since. No coverage. Not a dime.

My husbands insurance just got raised 29% - now we will pay

$130 per week for the premium and a $15,000 deductible. That is a total of $21,760, or 1/3 of his income. Can anyone afford to pay 1/3 of their income to just health insurance?
I don't think so. Like another poster said (sm) - LM

Silly stuff. It's the FREE MARKET that's raising rates. - So far, the government is mostly out of it. nm

You know, you can gnash all you want, the fact is when you have government guaranteed insurance, through a private company or directly from a state exchange-managed government policy, you'll NEVER be willing go back to this mess. Please remember these posts then and thank those of us who brought it to you.

business have to look out for themselves. They know what's coming and are preparing so that they can still be in business for a few years to come. Otherwise, Obamacare will destroy them - like Obama is destroying the country.

The rich like the Papa John's guy can't afford health care for his employees:

These must be hard times for John. Poor guy: John Schnatter is the founder, as well as chairman and CO-CEO of PaPa Johns International Inc., with a net worth of $240 million. John Schnatter has accumulated his net worth through his franchises in over 3400 restaurants around the world. In 2011, John was listed at number 17 on Forbes list as one of the wealthiest.

His house is 40,000 square feet and it resembles a castle. One interesting feature on this 16-acre estate is the 22-car underground garage, complete with an office for valet parking, a car wash and even a motorized turn table to move limousines. The home also has a state-of-the-art exercise suite and a huge 6,000 square foot carriage house.

No wonder Romney needs a car elevator--has too keep up with the other millionaire/billionaires.

The reason healthcare costs are going up - Me

[ In Reply To ..]
His agenda is to cause current healthcare prices to skyrocket so that people will start moving over to his Government one world order Single payor Obamacare health plan. Once that goes into effect after January 1st, we will all be doomed to either pay higher healthcare costs on our current healthcare (as they go up and up) or pay for Obamacare for the rest of your life, or pay the penalties for NOT getting Obamacare. The true evil will be unleashed during the next 4 years. this is just the beginning.

I know. Make it too expensive for people to afford - (sm) - AbbyCadabby

[ In Reply To ..]
Necessarily raise rates to compensate for Obamacare taxes, then go out of business when it can't be sustained. THEN, everyone will switch to Obamacare by default. That's been his plan all along.

NO, no, no. It's not all a strange, sinister mystery. - Go read about it. Understanding feels GOOD. nm

Raising The Medicare Eligibility Age Would Cost Patients About Twice As Much,Dec 06, 2012
"When economists and policymakers worry about the long-term fiscal crisis, what they’re mostly worried about is Medicare. That’s why a persistent idea during this fiscal cliff season is raising the Medicare eligibility age from 65 to 67. It’s an idea that appears superficially to have many virtues. Bringing the Medicare retirement age into line with the Social Security retirement age seems logical. The change is simple to describe to journalists and the public."  & ...

Healthcare's Bipartisan Problem. Almost Half Of Healthcare SpendingJan 13, 2017
healthiest half of the population consumes only 3% of health care costs. The only alternative would appear to be taxpayer subsidies. It is next to impossible, politically, to take away freebees once in place. Income redistribution continues to increase. The 2010 health law, also known as Obamacare, forced insurers to sell coverage to anyone, at the same price, regardless of their risk of incurring big claims. That provision was popular. Not so were rules requiring nearly everyone to have ins ...

Raising The Debt Limit. A Little Bit Of HistoryApr 14, 2011
After World War II ended, the debt limit was reduced to $275 billion. Because the Korean War was mostly financed by higher taxes rather than by increased debt, the limit remained at $275 billion until 1954. After 1954, the debt limit was reduced twice and increased seven times, until March 1962 when it again reached $300 billion, its level at the end of World War II. Since March 1962, Congress has enacted 74 separate measures that have altered the limit on federal debt. Time Line from 1958-2011 ...

Six Costs Of Not Raising The Debt CeilingJul 26, 2011
What started as hot air has now become a thunder cloud. Should Congress fail to reach a compromise to raise the debt ceiling, a multitude of economic sectors could take a hit—if not come to a screeching halt. President Obama Says No To Raising Medicare EligibilityFeb 11, 2013
This is a National Journal (a moderate Washington insider publication) article on the "sausage-making" side of this issue, the maneuvering--not the socioeconomics of it. The people who read this journal also read many others, and it's not the last word on anything, but I thought the "what's going on here?" is interesting as part of an ongoing series of maneuvers. It's worth noting that an eligility age increase could be put right back on the table just as quickly. Also, the "chai ...

Bread So Cheap At WalmartAug 19, 2010
Please someone telling me I am just being negative. I have started worrying about low prices at Walmart, because of hearing about their trade practices. Today I noticed the usual $2.78 loaf of multigrain bread that is my favorite, is reduced permanently to $2.50. I am wondering who is "taking the hit" for that 28-cent reduction. The bakery companies? Other local grocery stores usually have that bread for $3.50 or so, but often **on sale** at $2.50. Is Walmart's reduction an effort to s ...

Cost Of Getting Braces Going UpJan 11, 2013
Obamacare Medical Device Tax: As of Jan.1, Obamacare imposes a new tax of 2.3 percent on medical device manufacturers, including those who make dental braces. The tax is imposed on gross sales -- even if the company does not earn a profit in a given year. While the tax will be paid to the IRS by the manufacturer, the tax will be passed along as a higher cost of the product, ultimately to be borne by the parent buying the braces for their child. With the cost of braces being as high as $7,625 ...
