Stressed out and surfing the web? I found out about a website called Duolingo, where you can take a language course - I'm learning French, started Spanish also. It is wonderful to take your mind off your problems, and maybe is a "dementia preventative" like crossword puzzles are supposed to be.
So at the end of the day (month, year), instead of just surfing the web, reading political websites, etc, you actually have something to show for it: You know some French, can read some French, figure out those French phrases and words authors like to throw into their novels, learn about French culture, learn about European languages in general. Of course, being an MT, you do some of that :) I really want to read some French symbolist poets in their own language - since French symbolism basically took over American ? - don't know how I would characterize American poetry over the last 50 years. Lost maybe. Lost in French symbolism.
I digress.
So upsetting, an anniversary of a sucide coming up - The other day I was thinking how my last day of being an MT was in March 2012, then of course, oh yeah!, I remembered this suicide, of a person I didn't even KNOW - I just knew OF them. It's still a kick in the chest.
Therefore I allow myself to get into my pajamas before 7 pm, read a couple of "fun" novels, and basically melt the F away from reality, Syria, Ukraine, Monday's never-ending dental appointment, etc. I realize the list of affirmations I have are like rosary beads...the repetition. They really do help. Plus Je suis calme. The chat noir est calme. Je mange une orange. That's like the title of a painting isn't it? I eat an orange. I am calm. Je mange une orange. Je suis calme.
