depends on what kind of dumplings.. - ma

I have my grandmother's recipe for homemade dumplings. Its basically a pasta dough that is rolled out and cut either in squares or thick noodles that you drop in a homemade chicken soup. LOVE it.
Also have seen recipes tho where it is thicker and the dumplings are more like a drop biscuit type dough dropped on top like a cobbler and then baked so.. guess it would depend on what he thinks of as dumplings?! Would be happy to share my grandmother's recipe for the dough.
My MIL makes the best and she uses - Bisquick

I'll ask her for the recipe. I made it a couple times and it was really good too (and I'm not the best cook). Haven't made it in a couple years, but I do remember boiling the chicken with some seasonings and then after deboning the chicken made dumplings according to the box and it was sooo scrumptious. Served with with steamed carrots and potatos on the side. Yum! I'll ask her for the recipe cos I want to make it again now.

I have made it both ways, either with Bisquick or the homemade dough. The homemade dough takes more time but is definitely worth it. It's delicious! I just make a pot of chicken soup like usual and add the dough or Bisquick towards the end. The recipe is on the box of Bisquick for dumplings made their way. I also cheat and use chicken broth in the soup instead of water. It gives it a much better flavor. Enjoy. I think a lot of us will be making chicken and dumplings this week now!

Have a simple recipe using Bisquick as well, and you can add/subtract ingredients based on what y'all want in it, but it does kind of require you to make a roux. No weird ingredients. You're welcome to it. I also like extra chicken flavor, so I used stock as well.

This was my grandmother's recipe and is over 100 years old. Makes a simple chicken and dumplings with a thick creamy sauce/gravy. It's a little involved but soooo worth it.
Boil a chicken in salted water until almost done in a large pot with enough water to cover the chicken plus a couple of inches. Remove chicken from broth and allow to cool enough to handle. Debone and return meat to boiling broth.
To make dumplings, in a large bowl mix together 2 cups buttermilk, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/8 teaspoon baking soda and 1 tablespoon oil. Stir in enough flour to make a stiff dough that follows the spoon around the bowl. There should be enough dough for 2 rollings. Divide dough and roll out very thin on a floured board. Cut in strips about 1 x 2 inches and drop individually into boiling broth. Repeat with the second portion of dough. Turn fire down real low and cook until dumplings are tender. Take lid off pot and pour in 1/2 cup of sweet milk and add a generous amount of butter or margarine. Add salt and pepper to taste. Take a meat fork and gently separate dumplings. NEVER STIR! Let cook util it starts to boil and then turn fire out. Let sit for a bit as the gravy/sauce will thicken as it sits.
Make a pan of cornbread and enjoy!!

It is almost identical to the way my mom cooked it when I was growing up. The only difference is my mom added chopped onions, celery and carrots (the trinity) at the start. By the time the dish was finished cooking, even the carrots had almost entirely dissolved. This was handed down through my Irish g-g-g-grandparents. Thanks for posting this!
That sounds SOOOOOOOOO good!!!! Sounds like my grandmas recipe. - thanks for the recipe

dumplings!! One day I used only half the dumplings for supper and had all these uncooked dumplings left over. I found a large Tupperware container and layered the UNCOOKED dumplings between wax paper and froze them. They were delicious after being in the freezer for 3 months. Now I always try to keep uncooked dumplings in the freezer because it's so much faster.

I liked rolled dumplings instead of dropped dumplings. This is the way I do it and it never fails. Below is my recipe.
Ingredients:
1. Boneless or bone-in chicken. My
family likes boneless chicken
breasts, 4-5 pieces of chicken
breast.
2. 1 stick real butter
3. Bisquick, 2 cups or more depending
on how many people are being served.
4. Buttermilk, 2/3 cup or enough to mix
up Bisquick.
5. Salt and pepper to taste.
Directions:
Boil chicken with butter, salt and pepper until tender. Be careful if adding salt while boiling check as butter will already have salt in it. Remove chicken and/or just pull into bite-sized bites. Set aside. Mix Bisquick and milk like you would for biscuits. Roll out dough (like for a pie crust)and cut into squares or medium-sized strips with knife. Add dumplings to broth on low to medium heat one at a time and cook for 15-20 minutes and then add back chicken to the dumplings. I do not add vegetables or onions to my dumplings as my family does not like it this way.
Chicken and Dumplings are very simple. It just takes time when it comes to rolling out the dough, but so worth it. Try it. It really is simple to make. If you want though you could add any veggie you wanted, but we like ours just plain with veggie on the side.

Really Fast Easy RecipeJun 03, 2011I have a really easy, quick recipe. It's sort of Sloppy Joes, but my own version. Brown chopped meat in a skillet. Add seasoned salt, onion powder, a hint of garlic powder, and black pepper and stir around. Throw in some chunks of Velveeta cheese and stir until cheese is melted all through. Serve on bun of your choice. You can use regular American cheese, but the Velveeta tends to melt easier and clean up in the pan easier. ...
