Anybody glad the holidays are over?!?!?

Posted: Jan 3, 2010

I definitely am!  I always stress myself out every single year at Christmas.  I know I do it,  I tell myself I'm not going to do it, and then I do it every time!  So whenever New Year's rolls around I'm saying Thank God!  Things can go back to normal!  I feel bad being a Christian and all, dreading Christmas so much.  I just don't know how to not be stressed.  I'm on anti-anxiety medication and anti-depressants, but still manage to be stressed.

Anyway, I'm now feeling relaxed and I'm so happy.

Glad here too. - sm

I love the holiday seasons, but with all the company, shopping, baking, cooking, etc. my house takes a beating. I am glad to get the tree down, decorations put away and things just more organized and quiet again.

We do put too much pressure on ourselves, but then when the grandchildren are all beaming and having a good time and everyone is sitting around with smiles and full bellies, I know it was all worth it.

Try and reduce the stress as much as you can. Think about each thing you do and ask yourself "So what if I don't do that this year?". Maybe you can cut out some of the things or have your family help you to share the load.

you sound a little overly concerned with feeling constantly happy and relaxed. That might be a bad thing.

So, she should go for unhappy and tense? - LOL

[ In Reply To ..]
Yeah, happy and relaxed, two things we all should strive to be in life. Unheard of.

You weirdo, lol!

Um well, I would settle for a good night's sleep and a few days without - LoriMT

my mind constantly running numbers and the can I afford this or will I disappoint the kids.

But hey, you're right my focus is off. Who needs happiness or no stress?!?! I was a fool, thank you for convincing me that my misery should be celebrated and focused on. Oh Joy!

better life through chemical living - good luck with that

Maybe your drug tolerance is too high to be happy.

Me too! - sm

I am glad the holidays are behind us also. We traveled to my son's home in Montana this year...from Georgia. Granted we flew, but it is still a long, grueling trip and I for one am glad to be back home, decorations cleaned up, and things semi back to normal. Now when school starts back, things will be complete!

Long, grueling trip to Montana? sm - Lin

[ In Reply To ..]
That was a jet you flew on, is that correct? We fly to Las Vegas from Georgia about every year and it is even further and does not seem long and grueling to us. Try the trip from Georgia to Alaska one of these days or even to Greece like I have done. Now those are grueling.

Yes, long and grueling... - imagine that! sm

[ In Reply To ..]
In the sense that there is not a nonstop flight to Montana...you must change planes at least once, if not twice to get there. In our case, we changed planes once in Salt Lake, then on to MT. Coming home, however, our flight was overnight, with 2 plane changes...therefore, to my body and mind, the trip was long and grueling! Geez, happy freakin' new year to you too ya grouch!
Grouch, I am not the one complaining about a grueling trip - Lin
[ In Reply To ..]
And to see your son, no less. The way you spoke I thought you might have taken a propeller plane.
Do you always flatulate rainbows and sunshine? - LOL
[ In Reply To ..]
I mean, honestly..."long and grueling" is subjective. Glad you found an opportunity to boast about your trip to Greece...world traveler that you are, I would think you'd be a happy spirit, not a force of negativity.

Hope you find something positive to start off 2010.
I do that, that is why never categorized as a grouch - Lin
[ In Reply To ..]
I was, as if you didn’t know, comparing the "grueling" trip to Montana versus the trip overseas. Next time I take a trip to Las Vegas will try to do over several days, further than Montana and would not want to be crashing by the time I got there. Grueling, hahaha.
You crack me up - LOL
[ In Reply To ..]
At least there IS a sense of humor in there, lol!

Keep flatulating those rainbows and sunshine...Sometimes your sarcasm really is funny :-)
I would categorize flying, no matter how far, as grueling. - LoriMT
[ In Reply To ..]
I would also add that changing planes and racing through terminals ups the grueling factor as well. Not to mention if you have kids, like I do, trying to keep track of the kids, your carry on, their carry ons, managing potty breaks and the constant "I'm hungry", while hurrying through terminals to make a connection is completely grueling even when you are traveling a mere 500 miles.

Now I've never traveled overseas, but domestic/overseas, 500/5000 miles probably doesn't feel much different when you travel with kids. Exhaustion is exhaustion.

Geez! I thought I was feeling grouchy and miserable during the holidays. I was a pussycat compared to some of the grouches here!
Now, you feel better after getting that off your chest - Lin
[ In Reply To ..]
I traveled alone with my child when I went overseas. We were gone for 3 weeks and she was the age that one suitcase alone was full of her stuffed animals. Once we got beyond Atlanta airport there were no other people that I saw to help with the luggage, etc. Another time I traveled, just by myself, out of the country, had 3 other children along that time. Went through customs, immigrations, yes with all that luggage and 3 kids. Now what were you saying?
I bet you sing while you work and little birds land on your finger - LoriMT

and sing along. And all God's creatures gather around you with adoration at your bright and shining happiness. Bet you live with seven short guys in the middle of an enchanted forest.
And I call attention to your post above, stressed out and your mind running - away with you. Have a good psych standing by
[ In Reply To ..]
Your drama here speaks volumes about the mind running and so forth. Sorry about your condition.
stressed out - oldone
[ In Reply To ..]
After reading the replies to stressed out and expecting happiness...I can see that 2010 has not improved the nay-sayers attitudes on here. Is there really anything wrong with wanting to be happy and relaxed...really? I'll take a person striving for happy and relaxed over the negativity that flows out of some backsides...
And your point is what that I'm crazy for wanting the stress of the holidays - LoriMT
[ In Reply To ..]
to be over or I'm crazy because I prefer to be happy and relaxed over stressed and worry or that I'm the only person on the face of the earth that worries and loses sleep or that I am the only person who has financial concerns around the holiday?

What exactly was your point? Yes, I have anxiety. Yes, I have to take meds for it. Geez, thanks for belittling me for admitting to being emotionally weak at times.

Actually, I get really "blue" and bummed out when....sm - Cyndiee

I have to take down the beautiful decorations (they take so darn long to put up everywhere!), and I miss the glow of the lights, I like to stare at the Christmas tree right before bed, I think it brings back good memories. But you are probably stressed becaue you try to do too much at holiday time, no??? Took me my 50 years to learn to say "no" to some thing I just cannot do, get my own rest for health in there, and ask for help when needed.

That said, my mom and mom-in-law get very depressed at Christmas each year, they are hoping for the "old times," and some folk just because everyone expects them to be "up" and "happy," when you may be very tired from work or other things. I am so happy you feel better now, I am in my January FUNK here in snowy freezing New England, and I think reaching out to friends, doing something simple that YOU want to do for yourself, can really make a difference. Putting you first is not selfish, because if you do not take care of you, you cannot care for or help others! We are all a part of Jesus, so love yourself as He loves you!

Celebrating The HolidaysNov 24, 2012
Just wondered what other's take is on the Christmas and Thanksgiving? I have always enjoyed and looked forward to these holidays coming around every year - The festive activities, cooking, having good food that normally wouldn't otherwise eat year around like sweet potatoe pie, pound cake and other family favorites. Normally I could hardly wait till Thanksgiving was over to put up the Christmas tree and decorate the house. Even with the kids being all up in age and one having a chi ...

Working On HolidaysJul 04, 2013
As long as I've been doing this, I should be used to it, but anyone else get upset about working on holidays?  I guess it's because it's summer and I'd much rather be outside floating in a pool, but just working today while knowing it's a holiday is getting to me. Anyone else?  How do you cope?  Not working is not an option, so I'm trying to make the best of it.   ...

The Happy Holidays Vs. Merry Christmas DealDec 06, 2011
Ok, I'm a Christian. I'm not saying I'm perfect, quite the opposite. That being said, I am ok with "Happy Holidays" at this time of year. Why? Because we're in the season where there are several holidays!!!! I'm not offended if someone says that to me, matter of fact, I'm pleased because they said something nice. I was reading on Facebook the other day a "Don't take Christ out of Christmas" post from a Christian friend of mine and it sounded so dark a ...

My Mother And My Sister Are Fighting AGAIN! They Do This Every Year During The Holidays!Dec 23, 2010
I try to be the peacemaker and remain neutral, but this year my sister has taken to posting on facebook!  Is that not the most juvenile thing you have every heard??!!?!  Of course, she is slanting the facts to make her look like the victim.  My mom will never see it because she never uses a computer, doesn't even have email.  However, I'm a little aggravated because there are all these people on my sister's friends list commenting on it basically telling my sis ...

Boehner's Support For His Plan B Collapses, So Closes House For Holidays And Leaves,Dec 21, 2012
After the tea partiers who said they were behind him on his Plan B in the morning backed out later in the day, Speaker Boehner closed the House for the holidays. This all happened so fast they were literally wheeling in carts of food for a late night of lawmaking work when the House abruptly adjourned and they all walked out without voting on their own measure. He must be bitterly disappointed. As someone said, "Every time this guy takes a foot forward, he gets slammed in the back of the head ...

I would probably take the ones my new physician prescribed. So this past Monday I had my first appointment with my new PCP. I needed 2 major prescriptions filled, for BP and thyroid. Well, I'm So Glad This Congress Is Being BipartisanJan 19, 2011
I'm listening to the health care repeal debate. Weiner, as usual, was a little hyperactive during his debate point.  The speakers I found most interesting were the doctors that have been elected to Congress. All of them are against the law the way it stands.  It just came across the bottom of the screen that if the health care repeal passes, REID will NOT schedule it on the Senate side.  That's like saying to heck with what the people want, (I don't want ...
