Any advice on obtaining a copyright?

Does anyone know if it's possible to obtain old TV film. What is it is my mom used to be a professional dancer (ballet, tap, and acrobat). She's gone now, but when she was alive she would tell us about when she was smaller she performed shows and the local TV station came and taped her for TV.
