Obtaining old TV footage

Does anyone know if it's possible to obtain old TV film. What is it is my mom used to be a professional dancer (ballet, tap, and acrobat). She's gone now, but when she was alive she would tell us about when she was smaller she performed shows and the local TV station came and taped her for TV. I have the articles from the newspapers, but unsure about getting the actual film footage. Does anyone know if it's possible to get those films or just a lost cause. Oh to see her dance on film would be wonderful.
