Freedom of religion.

Posted: May 8, 2010

This country was founded on the needs of free women and men to practice the religion of choice.

I find it disturbing that it is assumed on this thread, and generally in the USA that everyone follows Christian practice.

And for all you Bible quoters, do you ever quote the Gospel of Mary and other Gospels suppressed by the "church" ?

Or just the words of your overbearing patriarchs?

P.S. God is neither male nor female.

I agree that G-d is not a male or female, just G-d. Since I'm Jewish - I'm not familiar with the "other gospels" that may have been supressed. I stick to the OT.

Why do you leave out the "o" in God? - JustCurious

Judaism does not prohibit writing the Name of God per se; it prohibits only erasing or defacing a Name of God. However, observant Jews avoid writing any Name of God casually because of the risk that the written Name might later be defaced, obliterated or destroyed accidentally or by one who does not know better.

Everything belongs to God - fickle finger of fate

Some Christians tend to polarize everything - black and white, God or the Devil, good and bad. God made all the shades in between because everything serves his purpose. To God its all good because its all his creation. Its people that discriminate and judge and rant and blame.

If God creates someone to be a loner, and to seek their own spiritual path, that is what he meant for them to be and do. To claim that person is not worthy of salvation or any relationship with God simply because they don't follow YOUR beliefs or attend YOUR church is the ultimate conceit.

Everything you have is by the grace of God - your health, the people in your life, your job, the food in your refrigerator. What a shame people can't focus on what they have to be grateful for instead of what's wrong with the other guy.

Everything is of God, God is good, so nothing is "wrong" or "bad," there are just shades of gray...

The problem with your theory is free will. God gave humankind free will. God is the creator and then He gave His creation over to us. He gave us dominion over His creation. Humankind in our misuse of our God-given free will created the "shades of gray."

God gave us free will hoping we would choose to worship Him, take care of His creation, and live in His perfect world. Instead, we messed up and we continue to mess up. It's called sin.

I agree that every good thing we have is by the infinite grace of God. Unfortunately, a lot of times we forget that (darn that free will!) and then that's when we have to deal with the consequences -- the bad things.

Even then, Spicer’s answers to basic questions in many cases offered l ...

(CNN) -- The U.S. commander in Afghanistan has criticized a Florida church's plan to burn copies of the Quran on September 11, warning the demonstration "could cause significant problems" for American troops overseas. "It could endanger troops and it could endanger the overall effort in Afghanistan," Gen. David Petraeus said in a statement issued Monday. With about 120,000 U.S. and NATO-led troops still battling al Qaeda and its allies in the Islamic fundamentalist Taliban movement, Petra ...

Which Religion Is The Mar 31, 2010
I'm so confused. Each religion says theirs is the right one to follow, and each has their own book. One says there are false religions, but which ones are they? 'Pulpit Freedom Sunday' To Defy IRSSep 27, 2010
Nearly 100 pastors across the country planned to take part in Pulpit Freedom Sunday, an in-your-face challenge Sunday to what the government says can and cannot be said in church. The pastors, along with the Scottsdale, Ariz.-based nonprofit Alliance Defense Fund, are reacting to a law stating that churches are not allowed to support politicians from the pulpit, according to the ADF. The growing trend is a challenge to the IRS from the churches, and may jeopardize their all-important tax-e ...

Another Reason To Keep Religion Out Of Gov'tFeb 12, 2010
The Virginia House of Delegates, their version of the House of Representatives, passed a bill on Wednesday that bans companies from tracking their employees with implanted microchips. On the surface, the bill sounds libertarian, albeit in a far-sighted Blade Runner sort of way. Religion And HomosexualityJun 21, 2013
How do all you religious people feel when someone who is gay, attempts suicide because they've been told since they were little that it is a sin and they will burn in hell? Gay is not a choice. I suppose acting on it is, but BEING it is not a choice, any more than you or I who are straight. I just think it's very sad that our youth can't go to the their family with this, because they've been brainwashed into thinking they'll burn in hell. So they attempt suicide ou ...

There is almost daily bashing on the politics board about religion and how it should not be a part of government and those who "practice" religion should stay out of everybody else's business.  This morning, watching a little news coverage on several different cable news networks, I hear the news people and the community organizers, city councilmen asking "where are the clergy? Why aren't they down here trying to calm things down....."   For some reason, when the world has g ...

Joe Biden was just awarded the Medal of Freedom with distinction only awarded to 3 other people. He was tearful, and turned his back to hide it, but he couldn't. It was a shock to him. He didn't know it was coming. I always liked "Uncle Joe" except for being so down on coal. He always had a good sense of humor and I always felt he was humble. His speech is showing it. Why Religious Freedom Laws Like Indiana's Are A Bad Idea For Left AND Right, Christian Or NotApr 01, 2015
Let me first say, again, I strongly believe in protecting civil liberties, but not promoting them. This means regardless of whether I agree or disagree morally, I do NOT agree with extremists, right or left, hellbent on forcing opinion into law. Recently, this has been done by both sides, either by enacting deceptive state law that "pretends" it doesn't discriminate, or by filing deceptive lawsuits that "pretend" they're with whomever refused them, rather than finding the perfect sit ...

Thirty-four Million Americans Have Given Up On Organized ReligionJul 27, 2010
I thought this was a great article to share. Thirty-four million Americans have given up on organized religion, according to the most recent American Religious Identification Survey. Yet for many of these dropouts -- from churches, synagogues, temples and so on -- spirituality is still a vital part of their lives. New Study Suggests Politics AND Religion Predispose Us From Accepting FactNov 11, 2014

"Religious Freedom And Liberty" Are Code Words ForSep 09, 2016
