Religion and mainstream

Posted: Apr 28, 2015

There is almost daily bashing on the politics board about religion and how it should not be a part of government and those who "practice" religion should stay out of everybody else's business.  This morning, watching a little news coverage on several different cable news networks, I hear the news people and the community organizers, city councilmen asking "where are the clergy? Why aren't they down here trying to calm things down....."

For some reason, when the world has gone to h--l in a handbasket, now they want the clergy to step in.  Maybe if they would allow the clergy to come into the schools and into the work places, the clergy would have established a relationship with the unchurched and maybe things like this wouldn't happen or at least not on such a large scale....

Just my thoughts.....

;

Thank you for your thoughts--I strongly do - not share them, but they are yours

and I will fight tooth and nail for you to be able to have them, not enforce them on others, but you are welcome to have them.

I am a political board poster as aforementioned. The problem with the clergy in the schools is a very slippery slope, involving questions like, Whose Christianity do we propose to offer in school? and what to do with those that don't believe in God. Morality can be discussed (taught, if you will) in school without clergy. I've been a good person all my life without a direct declared belief in God. I've always described it as doing what is right.

As to asking the clergy to help, I think they are asking anyone who has a bond with the people of this area in Baltimore to step in, The Nation of Islam is controlling crowds, the clergy are talking to people, the NAACP, Freddie Gray's family is appealing to the crowds, all to try to slow this thing down.

I agree about the bashing on the politics board. I think part of - the problem is people don't talk

[ In Reply To ..]
to each other as an individual anymore. You are seen as part of a group. I believe in God and the Ten Commandments and try to live my life that way, and while that is true I do realize not everyone has that view. I used to try to invoke a conversation but its like walking into a hornet's nest.

I think we are on the verge of something, and it's not good.

God Bless.

There are no atheists in foxholes. I always think of that - quote when I hear calls for

clergy during times of distress.

That reminds me - of another quote

[ In Reply To ..]
which was, "As long as there are tests, there will be prayer in school," which I took to mean that no court had eliminated prayer in school, only that everybody had to participate in one that someone was leading. Silent prayer between you and your God will always be legal.

I think another problem on the politics board is - jumping to conclusions.

[ In Reply To ..]
It isn’t wise to jump to any conclusion on either side of this matter. We should wait until we have known facts, and then weigh those facts at such time.

Boy is that ever true. Most of the problems we have - in the country are spiritual,

taking God out of everything and replacing it with man's laws.

It's true, and the more thumbs down I get over - there, the more I know

I'm right. HA!

you."

This is why I don't spend too much time on the politics board.

It's funny, you can say 1 + 1 = 2 on the politics - board and still get a thumbs down,

and state facts and still get a thumbs down.

This nation was birthed to provide freedom - for the individual under God,

and it will not easily give up that principle.

New nation providing freedom under God - outahere

Yet the first Europeans to colonize American, Pilgrims, burned people at the stake for not conforming to a religion other than the one they believed in. Freedom of religion is a an elusive dream. Politics dictating religiondoes not belong in our private lives.

The Puritans were a group of fanatics and that's - an overly broad generalization

about pilgrims in general. That is an example of what happens when man interprets the Bible instead of letting the Bible interpret itself. Like spare the rod, spoil the child. The rod is a symbol for Christ. In other words, teach the child about Christ.

Mainstream Media Is Trying To Rig This ElectionOct 11, 2016
"The mainstream media (MSM) are trying to rig this election in order to advance their liberal, far left agenda for another 4 years and beyond. Just Wondering. Why Does Mainstream Press Choose To Sep 15, 2012
I mean, the man is half white, half black - so to regard him as being black is nothing BUT a choice, right?  Pick one from column A or one from column B - it's your CHOICE.  It is NOT factual to call Obama black, or to call him white for that matter.  But it does seem passing strange that no one in the press regards Obama as white.  Just by the laws of probability, you would expect that some would call him white and some would call him black.  I mean, if I showed 1 ...

Which Religion Is The Mar 31, 2010
I'm so confused. Each religion says theirs is the right one to follow, and each has their own book. One says there are false religions, but which ones are they? How do you decipher what's the truth?  I don't believe all ways lead to the same god. Each one says THEIR god is the true god.  My mind is spinning with all this. ...

Another Reason To Keep Religion Out Of Gov'tFeb 12, 2010
The Virginia House of Delegates, their version of the House of Representatives, passed a bill on Wednesday that bans companies from tracking their employees with implanted microchips. On the surface, the bill sounds libertarian, albeit in a far-sighted Blade Runner sort of way. But it turns out that the bill’s sponsor was motivated by a more Old Testament perspective: stopping the rise of the Antichrist. "My understanding—I'm not a theologian—but there's a prophecy i ...

Freedom Of Religion.May 08, 2010
This country was founded on the needs of free women and men to practice the religion of choice. I find it disturbing that it is assumed on this thread, and generally in the USA that everyone follows Christian practice. And for all you Bible quoters, do you ever quote the Gospel of Mary and other Gospels suppressed by the "church" ? Or just the words of your overbearing patriarchs? P.S. God is neither male nor female.       ...

How do all you religious people feel when someone who is gay, attempts suicide because they've been told since they were little that it is a sin and they will burn in hell? Gay is not a choice. I just think it's very sad that our youth can't go to the their family with this, because they've been brainwashed into thinking they'll burn in hell. So they attempt suicide ou ...

Filing suit in Indiana for right to smoke marijuana legally in their church. Under the state’s new Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which took effect July 1, the government must prove it is enforcing a compelling interest in the least restrictive way if a person claims an undue burden on religious liberty. Democrats Have A Religion Problem. A Conversation WithDec 31, 2016
White House staffer, about the party’s illiteracy on and hostility toward white evangelicals. There aren’t many people like Michael Wear in today’s Democratic Party. The former director of Barack Obama’s 2012 faith-outreach efforts is a theologically conservative evangelical Christian. Thirty-four Million Americans Have Given Up On Organized ReligionJul 27, 2010
I thought this was a great article to share. Thirty-four million Americans have given up on organized religion, according to the most recent American Religious Identification Survey. Yet for many of these dropouts -- from churches, synagogues, temples and so on -- spirituality is still a vital part of their lives. How else would you explain the phenomenal success of Eckhart Tolle's The Power of Now, Elizabeth Gilbert's Eat, Pray, Love (soon a major motion picture), or the wri ...

Women and African Americans are not allowed to hold high positions within the Mormon church. How many of you are women? How can you support a candidate who does not believe in equal rights except when he is in front of the camera, and will give no details or explain supporting the church prejudices? New Study Suggests Politics AND Religion Predispose Us From Accepting FactNov 11, 2014

Playing The "religion Card."Aug 26, 2012
It is sad, but eventually the "religion card" will be played. I am not of the Mormon faith, but I personally know quite a few people who are. The Mormons (Latter Day Saints) I know are amazingly moral, charitable, kind, loving people. Their beliefs are no stranger than some of my own religious beliefs (evangilitical) probably seem to the unbeliever. They serve in the military for our freedoms, they teach in our schools, they are nurses and doctors in our hospitals. Why shouldn't they t ...
