Funniest Beauty Story-see msg

Posted: Feb 9, 2015

What is your funniest, most embarrassing, disastrous beauty story? I'll share mine. I had long, naturally wavy hair in high school (early 1970's), and back then curls and waves were not good. Straight hair was in. So, I used to iron my hair right smack dab on the ironing board. One time, I left it on too long in a particular spot, and I looked like I had a giant POOF right at my right ear. So, I was left with straight at the part, POOF by the ear, then straight below that. I also stunk like burnt hair for about a week. Took a few weeks for the poof to settle down.;

I graduated in 1972 - with curly, wavy hair

I know exactly what you mean. I wanted straight hair so bad!! I used to use Dippity-Doo to try to tame my curls. Now, I love them.

I remember Dippity-Doo! I even remember the smell. I wonder if they still make that?!

I distinctly remember my mother not allowing me to use serious chemical straightening agents because they're bad for your hair. I thought she was the worst mother in the world for that! So, I had to sneak ironing it when she wasn't around.

My waves and curls are my friends now. I got a short-ish haircut to complement my waves, and I've stopped fighting them.

I've always had long hair. One time I wanted - (sm)

to trim the ends, but had trouble reaching them by myself. I asked my little sister if she could just trim off the very bottom in a straight line for me. Instead of snipping just the ragged ends of my waist-length hair, she cut off an entire foot of it, so that it was only at my shoulder blades. I was so freaked-out I could hardly speak, and also had to go to work. I don't know how I did it, but I somehow sucked it up, didn't punch my sister in the face, and managed to go to work and do my job.

Now I never let ANYONE cut my hair. I just wait for it to get long enough that I can reach behind my waist and trim it myself.

You Also Can - see msg

Don't quote me on this, but I have heard that you can also just part the back of your hair equally down the center, then cut the ends in front of you--that way you don't have to wait for it to be waist oength.

I also heard you can put a scrunchie in your hair, as in a pontyail, and move it all the way to the end and cut that way, but that it's hard to center.

Anyway, you sure are saving a lot of money not going to a salon. If your hair ends look healthy, there's no harm in that.

Reminds me - see msg

Your story reminds me of something. When I was about 10 years old, my aunt asked me to cut her hair. Mind you, this is a woman about 40 years old. I said I would, and did the best a 10-year-old could. I didn't do a good job, and she got all bent out of shape.

My daughter has long hair, cuts it herself - nymt2

My 23 year old daughter has shoulder blade long hair, and after time after time of paying money to be disappointed with haircuts, she went on line and found a tutorial about cutting it herself. It told her to lean over forward and cut it upside down in front of you. It comes out slightly layered and perfect every time! No more spending money and (for her, best of all) no more listening to a chatty hairdresser make small talk!

Many years ago I used to sing quite a bit; did solo work at my church, sang in a trio with my cousin and my friend, etc. One year my friend and organist told me she would like me to enter a talent contest. It was hosted by several professional gospel groups. I was reluctant at first, but began practicing with her for the big event. Sure enough, we had the nerve to show up. They called our names just as we were about to chicken out. We went out on stage, and the announcer stated there were 7,000 people in the audience. I nearly fainted when I saw the crowd! It was held in a huge building that hosts many very large events. I did my best, and actually I was not feeling too shabby about the performance. At the end I got a bit too dramatic and threw my one arm out to my side at the end of my song. Out of the corner of my eye I saw something swinging. After I got back stage my friend and I just roared. I bought a new two-piece skirt and jacket for the occasion, and I forgot to remove the price tag from the sleeve. My friend died 6 years ago, but we had plenty of laughs about that night. By the way, one of the judges voted for me!!

Oh, funny!-nm - nm

What Was Your Funniest Prank In School?Nov 20, 2009
I went to a junior high school that had been added on to so many times, there was often no way to get from one side to the other on the same floor without going down one level and back up another.  Well, we had this tunnel going to the cafeteria.  My girlfriend and I hated the principal so we decided to get even.  We brought eggs to school and egged the tunnel going to the cafeteria then took off running to the gym.  We were dying laughing.  We were about 13 or so.  ...

What Is The Funniest/craziest Thing You Have Heard Blamed On Obamacare?Oct 13, 2013
I've heard some pretty funny things with what people are blaming on Obamacare.  I wanted to share one of my own and see what other responses are out there.  My fiance's dad and I were talking(this was suppposed to be a serious conversation) and out of the blue he states that he feels my fiance's short term memory is due to Obamacare.  I felt that was the end our family discussion becaue it lost all rationale after that. ...

Beauty QuestionDec 29, 2011
A friend of a friend has just started selling some French imported skin care and beauty products caled Votre Vu.  Kind of high-end, but I've certainly paid more for products in the past. Has anyone tried this line or any parts of it and, if so, what did you think of them? She's offered to send me samples but I figured accepting the samples might lead to a "hard sell" on her end, so I thought asking here first to see if anyone has first-hand knowledge of the products and what the ...

Beauty Pageant For KidsJul 18, 2010
What's your opinion?  I don't like to see toddlers dressed up with all the makeup, looking like little women, many times doing the sexy gestures, etc.  If we want to teach girls that they are valuable and not just sex objects this is the wrong way to go about it.  I especially hate when they show the little kids crying and the parents forcing them to perform.  Just me? ...

I am posting this story so die-hard Obama and democrat haters can refresh their minds.  This was from back when Bush was in office and the public was sick of the republican ways.  This is only a reminder to the ones who are blaming the democrats for everything and Obama.  There are many people who are not happy with either party and rightly so.  It is nothing but games on both sides.  But for those who seem to think things were running so well before Obama and the democr ...

The Rest Of The StoryOct 02, 2011

A True Story...Jul 18, 2012
In the early 70s, I was a new wife and mother without a lot of money, living in a small mid-western town of 1200.  One day a well-meaning friend called me and said,"The Government is giving away free cheese at the Auditorium. You should go stand in line and get some." I said to her, "Why should I go stand in line for the free cheese?  I don't want a 5 lb. brick of cheese." She replied, "Everyone is doing it."  So, I went and stood in line for the free cheese.  But, reall ...

An MT Insurance Story...Jan 22, 2014
I had insurance through my MT job but never filed a claim as I am relatively healthy and never met the deductible.  I didn't have a colonoscopy until I was 55 or a mammogram until I was 56, my own fault, but my income had taken a nosedive and preventative care was the least of my worries.  I was just lucky that both turned out OK.  I lost my insurance when I was diagnosed with RA and couldn't maintain full time status or production, pretty close though.  Because of ...
