How do you think the outcome of the midterms will affect the outcome in 2012?
my view - icedT

I'm not the poster above, but I think it's really too soon to tell. I think a lot is riding on the budget coming up and, of course, the unemployment rate and gas prices. Just my thoughts - even though you didn't ask. LOL

party...and what made me vote a straight Republican ticket in the midterms was not a seal of approval on Republicans, it was because I wanted change and I knew as long as the Democrats were in control I was not going to see that. The pushing through of Obamacare just to get it passed before they lost the majority sealed the deal for me. I knew Obama did not care about the best interests of anyone who was not in agreement with him. People said then that the tea partiers were crazy and that all the polls said people were turned off by them. The Democrats tried to marginalize them and demonize them, which just made people angrier at the Democrats. When your regular Joe in the flyover country sees another regular Joe on TV who is angry, he identifies more with that guy than some guy in a suit on TV telling them they were basically stupid, the victims of misinformation (as they were incapable of looking into it on their own) and he was just going to put it through anyway regardless of what they thought...I think that sealed it for a lot of people.

The second thing for me was the seemingly complete inability of the Democrats to understand and/or deal with the financial crisis this country is in.

If those that does not change, it will be a straight Republican ticket for me again in 2012.

Tax cuts for the rich didn't help the situation at all. - nm

Hiking taxes on the rich will not fix - this problem. We cannot
[ In Reply To ..]
tax our way out of it. We certainly cannot spend our way out of it. Until people (and most especially the Democrats in Washington) acknowledge that and then roll up their sleeves and give constructive ways to curtail spending and cut present costs, nothing is going to change.

So, even if you wish that the upper 5% of wage earners pay even more than the 40-something percent of all taxes paid in that they are paying now...it will not fix the deficit nor the spending problem. It is too far gone. Too much unpaid-for gimme program spending has happened. It has caught up with us, and raising taxes on the rich is not going to fix it.

Not the OP but don't raise taxes on the rich, just make them pay their share - Against Corporate Welfare
[ In Reply To ..]
The flat tax idea is a good one if the expensive tax accountants don't find a way to hide the income so the corporate welfare continues. I saw a report yesterday naming several huge corporations that not only don't pay any income tax, but got money from the federal government. That kind of thing is breaking our country.
Taxing the rich - mbmt
[ In Reply To ..]
Raising taxes on the rich might fix a lot of the problems. When you think about how much of the country's wealth is held by a very small percentage of the population, it's scary. Is a multimillionaire or billionaire going to go without if their taxes are raised? I might and you might, but multimillionaires and billionaires are not. Perhaps most think the fair thing to do would be to raise taxes across the board. I think that singling out middle class public employees and cutting programs for the elderly and poor to fix the problem is just not right when the rich get their tax cuts and end up paying sometimes nothing much at all.
So you are a proponent of socialist redistribution - of wealth through taxation?
[ In Reply To ..]
just asking. In every country on the face of the earth most of a country's wealth is held by a small percentage of the population. Did you think we were the only ones? What happens when the government tries to redistribute wealth through taxation is eventually all the wealth is then concentrated in the government instead of a percentage of the population, and the government doles it out however it sees fit(can we say Chavez and Castro in unison). Then the middle class disappears and you have the government and the workers. All you get out of that is being put level with the poor. Please study it, and you will see that artificial distribution of wealth does not work. It just does not work. Ask the Cubans. Ask the Venezuelans.
Paying your fair share whether you are rich or middle class is socialist redistribution? - I disagree
[ In Reply To ..]
I believe those who can afford to pay someone to find ways so they don't have to pay taxes should have to pay taxes. When we all get to stop paying taxes, that will be fair. Until then, I want them to pay their fair share.
what percentage - iceT
[ In Reply To ..]
What percentage of tax do you think would be fair for the rich people to pay? How much money would it take to be considered rich? Would a million dollars in assets be considered rich? We are talking about regular rich people and not those huge corporations, right? Like a married couple or head of household. Would you favor a flat tax?
A flat tax is fine if everybody actually pays, wherein lies the problem - or it is a redistribution of wealth from mi
[ In Reply To ..]
I don't like the idea of the redistribution of wealth from the Middle Class to the rich.

CNN? Really? Haven't you ever noticed how they trash the Tea Party? That's like having a Fox News poll on Obama's approval rating.

Now maybe we can find an unbiased source next time. I can't even find how they do the polling or the exact question they asked. Why won't they publish that info?

Now, back to the original poll about Obama's approval. I'm not familiar with
Quinnipiac University polling, but at least they list the science/details behind their poll on their site. It's too long to copy here, but you can see the details here:

President Obama Approval RatingOct 24, 2012
I just took a look at Real Clear Politics and noticed that President Obama's job approval rating is overall +3.4 and Gallup has it at +11 for the past couple of days, and more people polled have approved of his job performance than have not for quite some time.  If this is the case, and it appears to be, why would people vote for Mitt Romney and deal with the unknown?  It strikes me as odd since Romney seems to be somewhat ahead in the polls with the exception of IBD/TIPP. ...

USA Credit Rating DowngradeAug 08, 2011
