response from senator regarding affordable care act. Bunch of crap as usual.

Aren't the insurance companies still in control, with what they will approve and what they won't approve?
Senator Debbie Stabenow
Mar 30 at 4:33 PM
To me
Dear ***,
Thank you for contacting me about the Affordable Care Act and its ongoing implementation.
Millions of Americans, including several hundred thousand people in Michigan, have been able to buy high-quality private health insurance plans through the Affordable Care Act. The law also holds insurance companies accountable, is helping to rein in soaring health care costs, and is reducing prescription drug costs for seniors.
While I understand your concerns, we cannot afford to go back to the old broken system and put insurance companies back in charge. No law is perfect – and I am committed to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to fix the parts of the law that need to be fixed and to strengthen the parts that need to be strengthened. I will keep your concerns about the health care law in mind as Congress continues working to address these issues.
Thank you again for contacting me. Please continue to keep me informed about issues of concern to you and your family.
Sincerely,
Debbie Stabenow
United States Senator

He read your comment and said "Her mouth is bigger than her integrity and she has no true commitment to anything she espouses, and you can tell the moment you meet her."
Which is like most flawed message-bearing politicians, I guess, only he says she also made voting decisions that didn't support what came out of her mouth to get her elected, is that about right?
Yup, agreed, insurance companies are in control either way ya go, but I'm also not sure how that OR Obamacare can be fixed. Amendment and/or total repeal would be just as expensive to implement.

Also sings their fight song, says it's better, and that a local high school where we live now stole it from U of M lol.
Oh well, before we both get in trouble for being off topic, he says the reason he wanted me to say that is because I mentioned in another comment he was from Detroit and he doesn't think that's her constituency, Levin was their senator at the time. But Lansing/MSU is her constituency, which is where he came to know more about her.
I called more than 1 but she is the only one that responded - nana7
[ In Reply To ..]
Levin retired so Gary Peters holds that seat now and I have called him too, just not gotten a response from him.
I don't care where they are from or what party they belong too. I am calling one by one because someone needs to tell me how this new law is good for me and my family. I am glad it has helped many Americans, but I am one of those Americans that it hurt and I want an explanation to that.
I have posted examples of what would happen to a lot of us with just 1 major hospitalization, not even a major hospitalization, just walk through the doors of a hospital and hear cha-ching, cha-ching ringing in my ears.
I gave these exact examples to the offices of senators I have called and this was the response I have gotten. That its good for America???
So like I said I don't care where they are from, who they represent, I want an answer and will call until someone explains this mess to me and how it is good for me and my family.
I have been very vocal on this board about this issue and have read both pros and cons to my posts so I thought it would be good to post whatever responses I get from the Senators and Representatives I call.
I also responded to her email with my concerns in writing and asked they consider putting a cap on our out of pocket expense just like auto insurance.
I don't care about the parties or who is to blame for this mess we are in. I want it fixed so we don't end up in financial ruin some day, because some day this will affect each and everyone of us.
At least there's that, I guess.This is why we're not party-bound. Depends on issue/person - (registered) indie
[ In Reply To ..]
In fact, most people USED to vote based on the issue or person, before such severe polarization began, which I believe was after 9/11. Sometimes I think the worst thing the terrorists did was shake our faith and divide us further from each other. It's like suddenly if you didn't agree with Bush on some things, you were a terrorist lover, it made no sense. People didn't used to call each other group-specific, blanket-generalized bad names as much as they are now, it's out of control.
But back to your issue, so for those who have repeatedly accused/bashed ME on here of not actually being an indie and "being left", this thread is an example of me not always siding with the left. Because Debbie Stabenow is a Democrat and I think Obama knew full well what insurance companies would do with the rates to "compete" with Obamacare and that it would still benefit insurance companies and placed no safeguard against price hikes (like gas prices) against that happening.
I actually don't know Debbie, but that answer she gave you, well, stinks. My SO does, and he became disillusioned with her and gave very specific examples while on staff at MSU.
However, like you said, the positive was at least she wrote you back and not the standard "thank you for writing, my constituents are all important to me, blah blah blah."
I just wish you had gotten a more helpful answer and she had been more specific about HOW they were going to fix problems.
If I read that correctly, it almost sounded like she thought it was fine the way it was, at least it "stopped insurance companies" but it most certainly does not. And just a quick blurb about working "bipartisan" to fix it. Rrright. If that's the case, why didn't she give you specifics on how they were planning on doing that?
I'm sorry, but Dems and even some Indies just can't keep pretending the Republicans are all wrong on this one, not just politicians are hard-core party members trying to tell them there aren't major problems either. It's NOT just Republicans saying it, it's the actual people themselves, regardless of their political leaning, who are frustrated and therefore it is a valid complaint.
And we're not all saying it needs to go entirely (which as I said in my first comment would be just as expensive to totally repeal all the services that resulted). But it DOES need fixing. If the dems are going to fix it, then tell us specifically how!
Sorry you got bashed in the other comment, I saw that. Not sure what that was about. Cosmetic surgery? Whaaaaa? Too many conclusions jumped to on here at times.
I'm going away a bit later this afternoon a couple places for the holiday, so if I don't pop back in, Happy Easter Nana 7 and everyone!
Obamacare gave them the power UNDER THE LAW - THANKS OBAMA
[ In Reply To ..]
Insurance companies have to follow Obamacare law. Blame placed in the wrong spot. Thanks Obama is right.
Sounds like a pretty good answer considering - the question seems ambiguous - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Really, what was the question?
"Aren't the insurance companies still in control, with what they will approve and what they won't approve?"
Were you trying to make a point, or what?
Off hand, I can think that the employers are in control regarding birth control.
My insurance has always required a referral from PCP for specialists and lab.
Do you think ACA should pay for elective cosmetic surgery? I just do not understand what you are getting at.
to answer your qestions - nana7
[ In Reply To ..]
I contacted her with my concerns about the change by insurance companies from copays to percentages expressing my concern if you have a 80/20 or 70/30 deductible how that can put many Americans in financial ruin and there needs to be a cap on what we have to pay just like auto insurance. If you have an accident and you have a $1,000 deductible then you pay $1,000 and insurance company pays the rest.
With the high deductibles, premiums rising every year, and the split (70/30 or 80/20) the amount of out of pocket expense can get extremely unaffordable for most middle class. I gave examples in previous posts of how much 1 hospitalization could cost an individual.
So I posted the response I got from here. Wasn't expecting one but nonetheless, this was her reply.
I never said anything about cosmetic surgery so not sure where you came up with that.
I was guessing at the meaning of your post - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I have no idea what you posted in previous posts or that they even exist. Just this very strange post without any context.
I understood her perfectly well. - No problem.
[ In Reply To ..]
I also like that she was civil.
I read your previous posts, too, which made perfect sense. - The out of pocket under Obamacare IS severely
[ In Reply To ..]
cost prohibitive, can cause financial ruin with one hospitalization. Yet, despite massive explanation on your previous posts, some still seem incapable of grasping even the most basic math.
Prior to Obamacare, my out of pocket was about $ 2500.00. With Obamacare, my out of pocket, before insurance pays one penny is almost $15,000. Cannot understand why so many cannot grasp that is an out of pocket INCREASE of over $ 12,000 (per year) BECAUSE OF Obamacare.
Insurance companies are not to blame, Obamacare is. Since so many on here just want to bash insurance companies, without actually reading the new law, their constant whining has not merit.
Your examples are well documented; they just do not want to believe them.
thank you so much for your post. - nana7
[ In Reply To ..]
I have been bashed because of my "dislike" for Obamacare and am glad that there are some that can see through the fog of this.
I am glad it has helped a lot of Americans but those of us that are hurt by this law are Americans too. The law should help everyone but it doesn't.
This law now gives the insurance companies permission to "rape" us and that is exactly what they are doing. They are saying cha-ching, cha-ching all the way to the bank and we are saying it all the way to the poor house. I am sure that $12,000 you now have to pay will put a hurting on you and that is what is wrong with this law.
As part of my job, I had to read Obamacare. I do not do MT work - alone. What I have seen on this
[ In Reply To ..]
board is very, very few have any idea the impact that Obamacare is going to have in their personal lives. This was never about health insurance, only about total control. The insurances have to comply with Obamacare, as it is written, or face massive fines and/or jail time (written in the law). Obamacare removed several drugs from the "approved" list for payment by insurance companies. The insurance companies are forbidden, by law, to now pay for these drugs. People are blaming the insurance companies, which simply is not the case. Drugs are only one example - I have hundreds.
I coordinate records for several clinics. Each and every clinic is going through hell trying to provide medications/services patients have been on/receiving for 25-30 years, which is now being denied by Obamacare.
There were least three other true health care solutions out there, which were far, far better. Obama refused to even read them, his own words. They were all republican sponsored with bipartisan support. I watched the entire proceedings. Obama basically said, "my way or no way". He also insulted, ridiculed, condescended to anyone disagreeing with him.
We are left paying the price for complete destruction of our health system.
You did not post any of the above context in the OP - see message
[ In Reply To ..]
I have to wonder where you are having such conversations as I tried to find a previous post. Nothing. Kinda like playing Jeopardy except put your answer in the form of a question without knowing the category. I was guessing. You did not say anything about the deductibles or auto insurance, so why would you be surprised I guessed cosmetic surgery? At least you got a response and not a request for a donation.
The insurance companies are still in control but...sm - Alice
[ In Reply To ..]
they have less control than they did before the ACA. The only way to take their control away would be to institute Medicare for all, AKA single payer.
Wrong again. yeah - give government total control - Communism here I com
[ In Reply To ..]

I Just Have One Comment About The Affordable Care ActJun 29, 2012It seems to me that a lot of MTs feel that the MTSOs are very greedy and pay slave wages.
It is my understanding that under the ACA companies with more than 50 employees will have the option of either providing medical insurance *OR* opt out and pay the less expensive penalty. I also believe that many of these MTSOs have in excess of 50 employees, particularly the larger ones like Nuance and M*Model.
Just keep that thought in mind while you connect the dots. ...
How To Achieve Affordable Health CareDec 23, 2009Despite all the hubbub about health care, the United States can have affordable health care tomorrow if we want it. There have been real solutions available, solutions that have been right under our noses for decased, but you don't often hear about them and the prospects of getting them are rather grim unless the public is apprised of them. Today's debates and town hall meetings have not been about reducting the overall cost of health care, but about who's going to pay for it.

This does not include taxes, trailers, towing fees, licensing and registration fees, fuel, docking and storage fees, maintenance or repair costs. This law has been passed, because until now, typically only wealthy and financially responsible people have been able t ...
Is Obamacare Really Affordable? Not For The Middle Class.Nov 05, 2016programs.
For the 85% of enrollees with lower incomes, federal subsidies make the premiums somewhat more affordable. Those even closer to the poverty line can get additional subsidies that reduce the deductibles, which can run into the thousands of dollars.
But for many middle class Americans -- a single person earning more than $47,520 or a family of four with an income of $97,200 -- the pricey premiums and deductibles mean health care coverage remains out of reach.
