Unfortunately, they are the government. They have the FDA and Congress firmly in their pocket :-( It makes me wonder what degree of extortion they are using to pull this off, especially since they are banned in so many other countries around the world.

Blunt's Monsanto Protection act - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
No extortion here. Just politics.

"Since HR 933 had to pass [emergency spending bill] it got larded up with a lot of special interest deals, including Section 735, a sleazy bit of business nicknamed the âMonsanto Riderâ or the âMonsanto Protection Act.â

Section 735 appeared mysteriously â without benefit of debate â while the House bill was under review by the Senate Appropriations Committee. It orders the Department of Agriculture to ignore any federal court decisions that would block use of USDA-approved seed containing genetically modified organisms.

After a few days of anonymity, Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., admitted he was responsible for the mysterious appearance of the Monsanto Rider."

That's a big list of crappy pre-packaged foods - there!

[ In Reply To ..]
Yet another reason not to buy all the pre-packaged junk. Not that corn, soy, etc are any safer. But seriously people, shop the outer isles.

crappy prepackaged - Roseanne

[ In Reply To ..]
Some of them are so obvious, the cereals, the popcorn . . . but some of them took me by surprise, for sure.

Thanks for that list. - MT calories

Geez, I eat a lot of junk!

Oh, brother. Who's left? - Truthhurts

I have a problem with Healthy Choice being listed here. If they are part of Monsanto, they are NOT healthy and it is considered false advertising, wouldn't you agree? Same with Morningstar since they are vegan and tout the health benefits of their meatless products.

It really looks like every food producer is on this list and I've been buying some of these foods forever.

If this list is "truth," then it should be sent to Congress for them to take further steps...

I realize that S.Amdt 965 (Sanders) was voted down (for what reason, I'm still trying to find out). What the reasoning that it had nothing to do with the bill this amendment was attached to or some other reason?

Still up for votes (maybe) are H.R. 1699.I.H. Genetically Engineered Food Right-To-Know Act related to S.809. They are in committee now.

oh brother - Roseanne

[ In Reply To ..]
Actually, I just happened on the list last night and haven't had a chance to do much research. I'm not prepared to take it all at face value yet. Especially curious about why Ocean Spray,Green Giant or V8 would be on there unless they use Monsanto pesticides or something and just because Green Giant packages corn I don't think the entire product line should be condemned. Lots of information to sift through.

You're right about that (lots of info). I'm thinking it may be - Truthhurts

[ In Reply To ..]
V8 is part of Campbell's, and Green Giant is part of General Mills.

What it all comes down to is that there may be only 4 food companies that own everything else under different names; Campbells, Nabisco, General Mills, Kellogg's, and ConAgra.

There are a couple smaller ones but I'm sure they'll be eaten up by the big boys in the next few years like Smithfield/Armour (but I see our Congress is going to try and stop that buyout).

Truthhurts, after your post the other day, - I went to my freezer

and found a bunch of wild catch fish from China. Dumped it out. Thanks

Such a shame, isn't it? No-change that - disgusting. - Truthhurts

There is also a big fight going on over International vs. U.S. Waters between the Chinese and the U.S. Chinese are coming into the U.S. waters and stating they're in international waters.

I'm not sure, but I really don't think salmon are salt water fish. Does anyone here know? I thought they hugged the coast and were mainly in rivers and streams.

Okay, found this, and I was partially right-from the picture, it looks like they hug the coast...so how is that international waters?:

Salmon are.... - Empirelady
[ In Reply To ..]
... both salt and fresh water fish. They spawn in the fresh water (running up the rivers) and go out to sea to grow up. They then return to the exact same streams where they were spawned to do the same.

Sadly, at the grocery store, there's a lot of farmed salmon (artificially fed and colored), but the flavor isn't nearly as good, I'm told (never touch the stuff).

Even more sadly, with what humans are doing to the oceans, it's not safe to eat a lot of fish anymore on a regular basis - too much heavy metal content. :(

I'm so with you all with this "artificial food" crap. Monsanto is going to bring about the very thing they say they are preventing with their frankenfood, and that is some disease is going to run rampant through that mess and leave us all in a world of hurt since they've taken over so much of the farm land. Patent rights, you know...
Under Monsanto's contract, when that disease - sm

does hit and hurt people, citizens can't sue for redress.

That is unconstitutional.
Exactly! - Empirelady
[ In Reply To ..]
That fact alone should tell you that they know more about their product than they are letting on, OR don't know enough about it and our entire nation is being used as guinea pigs.

Furthermore, when questioned if they serve GMO food in the Monsanto cafeteria? Nope. That speaks volumes.
I do believe it's already hit because of all the years - Truthhurts
[ In Reply To ..]
Monsanto has been poisoning the food supply. I have never, ever heard of so many people with allergies and autism as happening in the past few years.

I'm hoping Congress can stop this monster. just read the bills and/or write or email your representatives on both sides of the aisle, not just your party. It's a good way to see who is truly interested in what their constituents have to say (no canned text letters) vs. not caring at all (no response to email or letter).

Those who don't reply at all or just send 'canned text' are the representatives that need to be weeded out of office.
Oh, I was speaking about crop decimations, but - Empirelady

I absolutely agree with you about the illnesses and body/brain damage we are seeing more and more of, and I don't believe it's just because we are "more aware and can recognize it now." Well, there may be a little of that, but not much statistically speaking.

I also blame a lot of the disorders we are seeing on the plastics that are in every aspect of our lives. Watch on PBS a short little 1-hr film called "Plastic Bag." It's a real eye-opener with regard to the damage that plastics have done and are doing to our youth, even as far as in utero. This guy went in to studying this with absolutely no preconceived notion except to maybe help clear up some litter. What he found in his travels was horrifying. Or, it should be to normal folk. And, just to state, not all plastic is bad. The advances made in the medical field alone in preventing cross contamination with disposable products has been huge, so I'm not completely anti-plastic, but I do think there can be a lot eliminated from one's life, which I try to do.
Plastic bags are no longer used in my county and - paper bags cost 25 cents.
[ In Reply To ..]
There was a lot of moaning about it at first, but now everyone pretty much has a cloth bag in their car for shopping. I like seeing people out and about with their cloth bags! It reminds me of Europe.

All I ask is that they label the fruits and - sm

vegetables so I can SEE what I'm getting.

Also in this entire deal, Monsanto forces citizens to give up their right to sue. So if a Monsanto product makes someone sick or KILLS them, the sick person or family can't even sue for damages. That's downright unconstitutional, and I hope someone takes this to the Supreme Court (unless Monsanto is in their pockets, too).

What I found SHOCKING is that list. I LOVE Stouffers products, and I purchase many of the brands that are on that list.

The Supreme Court IS in M's pockets... - Empirelady

[ In Reply To ..]
Thomas used to be an attorney for them.

Do a quick google search and you can find LISTS of government officials and employees who used to work for Monsanto. It's beyond disgusting.
Thank you, Empirelady. I didn't know that. - sm

However, it doesn't really surprise me. :-(

So do I and I also love Prego and half the other stuff on that list - Truthhurts

Food For Thought..I Found This To Be A Jun 25, 2012
very interesting insight... When I was a child growing up in the late 1940s and early 1950s one of my favorite radio programs was the continuing saga of The Lone Ranger. I would huddle next to the radio every night to follow the adventures of the Lone Ranger and his faithful companion, Tonto. Unfortunately, the program aired just about my bed time and, as often as not, my parents would insist that I miss part of the program and keep to the schedule they'd deemed appropriate. One nigh ...

Food For Thought On The Immigration BanMar 17, 2017
Did anyone read it? i did. Liberals and Trump haters are saying it's a Muslim ban. IT IS NOT.  The word Muslim was never mentioned in the EO i read. It explained the reasons very well for why the government wanted the ban on those countries. Don't forget Obama also did a similar thing in 2011. The difference between Obama's EO and Trump's EO is Obama didn't say anything about it. It was a secret. Trump spoke out about it. That's the ONLY difference.&n ...

Food For Thought About Health Care ReformsOct 11, 2010
For those of you who condemn private insurers for denying coverages for particular visits, hospital stays, procedures, etc., think back to when this wasn't the case, when things were covered.  Then think about who started the denial ball rolling.  Yup, you guessed it.  It was the government.  Medicare was the bad guy here when they started paying those capitated payments, set amounts for services and set length of stay rules, and went on from there to find new and more e ...

Cat With Possible Food Allergies?Apr 24, 2013
Does anyone have a cat with food allergies?  My white/tabby mix seems to always be itching but does not have fleas.  His white ears are frequently pink and warm and he scratches quite a bit.  Last night I noticed him licking his belly and it, too, was quite pink. We have been round and round with this kitty since we inherited him from my MIL.  He was always a puker and I have improved that condition with different food and hairball treats, but I'm wondering if the pukin ...

About Picking Up Restautant Food And TipMay 10, 2010
We were talking at my office about picking up restautant food, and whether or not a tip is justified. Example, if you call in an order to a restaurant like Claim Jumper (citing an example a co-worker used) and you swing by to pick it up on the way home, would you tip? Technically, you're not in the restaurant and getting service. Typically, a tip is given due to the service provided by the waitstaff.
