These problems have been going on since I can remember. - This is not "Western Imperialism" or

Trump's fault as this biased article tries to imply. This is a direct result of these countries' dictatorships over the years.

Our church has been going over there for years trying to teach them how to purify their drinking water. It's dry over there, so water is scarce.

Last March some members of Franklin Graham's - aid workers called Samaritan's Purse

were kidnapped in Sudan.

The famine there is man made because of fighting between the government and the rebels. They've been fighting a civil war there for years, North Sudan, South Sudan, ethnic cleansing.

We used to send money back in the 80s thinking this would help the families, but stopped when we realized very little actually went to help people.

We once worked overseas and our equipment was - "held hostage" by the locals

[ In Reply To ..]
customs agents. The company we worked for said no way would they pay the bribe as that just sets a precedence.

There is so much corruption there on every level.

Have you ever seen the movie Machine Gun Preacher? - It's a true story about a fomer biker

turned preacher who tried to save Sudanese children.

In the early 90s I thought the Arabs were doing horrible things - to the Africans who I thought were

[ In Reply To ..]
Christians, but later found out were animists. They at least spared women and children. Now I see that after the Arabs are gone, the sub-Saharan Africans are even worse to each other.

A number of factors have led up to this, including dictatorships, coups, dividing the country along sectarian lines,

They wanted the Colonial powers out and now they - want aid from the Colonial powers

they ousted.

I had childhood friends that were white farmers in Rhodesia. They escaped with their lives and their neighbors were slaughtered. The bread basket is now a dust bowl. They shouldn’t have killed the white farmers. Now the media will try and make me feel guilty because I drive a gas guzzling suv that caused global warming and dried up their farm land. I refuse to feel guilty.

You're going to see a lot of opinion pieces like this, - with headlines like Trump cutting foreign

aid, probably will have the word draconian in there somewhere.

Like Zimbabwe. It’s the corrupt dictator and his cronies who steal from the people, enrich themselves, and who destroyed the agricultural sector.

Same with Venezuela. Venezuela is a reminder that no - country is so rich that it can't

be driven into the ground by revolutionary socialism. It's not the fault of the West.

If you eat all the corn but then don’t plant any and take away the incentive from those who use to plant corn, it doesn’t matter if you find that there are still a few fields with corn. You will eventually decimate those too, and unless incentive returns there is no long term solution. This is the fruit of socialism.

The rich are eating well in Venezuela. "If you have - money there is champagne, vodka,

Belgian chocolates, lobster, brand-name clothes, exclusive restaurants … nightclubs, beaches … yachts, golf clubs—a whole country within a country...

the phenomenon stems from corruption in import processes, subsidies by the government, and the existence of buying, re-selling and smuggling of subsidized essential goods by "bachaqueros", linked to Colombian paramilitary groups.

These chains are then able to set their own prices to the value of the dollar, they are not regulated by the government.

Maybe a little paranoid? Just sayin - I saw Trump's name

[ In Reply To ..]
mentioned in this article briefly. Clinton's name was the very first name mentioned. I don't believe the article implied at all that it is "Trump's fault."

I do believe that not just us but many countries are going there, stripping their country of it's resources and leaving the country. It is honorable that your church and many others are doing this. I also agree that much of it is the dictatorships because I'm sure companies pay these dictators well for their resources and do believe that none of the wealth from this gets to the people. What your church and other's do is very beneficial to the people over there by helping them directly.

I feel climate change does have a part in it too, whether global warming or just natural weather change, as this article indicates it doesn't factor in. Weather is changing everywhere. There is flooding and drought like we have never seen and it is getting worse.

We and other countries have always taken advantage of these poor countries for many years, slavery ring a bell? It was not the working folks like you and I that did this, it was another example of the wealthy corporations taking advantage of them and leaving folks like in your church and other groups of regular people going in there to try and help these people.

Just my thoughts on it.

Houthis and their allies, including both former members of the Yemeni - military and Iran have been

[ In Reply To ..]
fighting for over 2 years now. They've been blocking humanitarian aid they even attack US ships in the area.

I like do research for factual evidence, which takes patience. When I see "Western Imperialism" my spidey senses go up.

Another UN failure. Africa has trillions in natural - resources and can't prosper.

[ In Reply To ..]
They got rid of so called colonialism/imperialism, so how can it be explained that these people of clans, tribes and cultures who were given their countries back are not better off?

Perhaps it could be explained by an Islamic war on civilization.

MSM Trump's fault, America's fault, Israel's fault. - nm

"Foreign aid" is nothing more than money taken from - poor people in rich countries

[ In Reply To ..]
and given to rich people in poor countries.

See Hillary Clinton’s Haiti “relief” program...

Does it make you feel good to bring in just - Hillary? Do you think

[ In Reply To ..]
she is the only one? Do you remember the Katrina disaster in our own country?

Since when is MintPress MSM? Where in this - article did it say it was

[ In Reply To ..]
Trump's fault? Whose fault is it? I happen to agree that we and other countries have taken advantage of these poor countries along with the dictators that run them. By we, I don't mean you and I, I mean wealthy corporations who go in take advantage of them.

Food For Thought..I Found This To Be A Jun 25, 2012
very interesting insight... When I was a child growing up in the late 1940s and early 1950s one of my favorite radio programs was the continuing saga of The Lone Ranger. I would huddle next to the radio every night to follow the adventures of the Lone Ranger and his faithful companion, Tonto. Unfortunately, the program aired just about my bed time and, as often as not, my parents would insist that I miss part of the program and keep to the schedule they'd deemed appropriate. One nigh ...

Food For Thought On The Immigration BanMar 17, 2017
Did anyone read it? i did. Liberals and Trump haters are saying it's a Muslim ban. IT IS NOT.  The word Muslim was never mentioned in the EO i read. It explained the reasons very well for why the government wanted the ban on those countries. Don't forget Obama also did a similar thing in 2011. The difference between Obama's EO and Trump's EO is Obama didn't say anything about it. It was a secret. Trump spoke out about it. That's the ONLY difference.&n ...

Food For Thought About Health Care ReformsOct 11, 2010
For those of you who condemn private insurers for denying coverages for particular visits, hospital stays, procedures, etc., think back to when this wasn't the case, when things were covered.  Then think about who started the denial ball rolling.  Yup, you guessed it.  It was the government.  Medicare was the bad guy here when they started paying those capitated payments, set amounts for services and set length of stay rules, and went on from there to find new and more e ...

Cat With Possible Food Allergies?Apr 24, 2013
Does anyone have a cat with food allergies?  My white/tabby mix seems to always be itching but does not have fleas.  His white ears are frequently pink and warm and he scratches quite a bit.  Last night I noticed him licking his belly and it, too, was quite pink. Well, the very next day, DH went to get Blue Buffalo and instead came home with a 5 lb. bag of 4health ($6) and Taste of the Wild  ($12) instead (he always listens to sales people). We started her on 4health and she didn't touch it the first day unless we put in 1/2 can of wet and veggies. The second day she ate it with no problem. She also seems to be 'full' after eating and isn't crying or whining. The next day, she didn't even touch her breakfast until after lun ...

“The lessons of history … show conclusively that continued dependence upon relief induces a spiritual and moral disintegration fundamentally destructive to the national fiber. About Picking Up Restautant Food And TipMay 10, 2010
We were talking at my office about picking up restautant food, and whether or not a tip is justified. Example, if you call in an order to a restaurant like Claim Jumper (citing an example a co-worker used) and you swing by to pick it up on the way home, would you tip? Technically, you're not in the restaurant and getting service. Typically, a tip is given due to the service provided by the waitstaff. I said maybe one would be justified if you stayed parked and they brought it to you. I usua ...
