My Cat's Food - LinK

He only eats dry. I tried to give him wet and he refused to eat it for days even if I mixed it with dry. He's on a special food for urinary tract health. He was on prescription, but now I use Purina One for Urinary Tract Health. He's had numerous UTIs and actually almost died from one a few years back. I keep his bowl full so he can go back and eat at his leisure. When I had two cats, I had to feed them just twice a day separately because my other cat used to eat her food and then start on his.

Inside cats get dry targeted for inside cats, outside cats get dry - either Purina or lately what I found at Aldi's.
They would probaby like canned, but too many cats to feed. They are all thriving on the dry food.
I have 2 Persians - they get both wet and dry. - (sm)

Neither is an overeater, so I free-feed the dry. The wet they get a small amount of for breakfast and dinner. They tend to pick at the wet food; I could probably switch them over to having wet in the morning or evening only.
I try to buy the best food I can; I'm suspicious that "Meow Mix" contributed to a former male cat forming urinary crystals that let to kidney failure. My mother has a semi-feral outdoor cat that she used to feed Meow-Mix, and that cat was scrawny and unhealthy until my sister started buying food from her vet for my mom to feed, and her cat blossomed into a gorgeous creature!
I often switch brands of dry food to keep the cats interested (or else due to proximity of the pet food store). For my indoor-only Persians, I like Royal Canin Persian 30 or Royal Canin Indoor Adult 27. They also like Science Diet Original. If I have to buy grocery store dry food (which I try not to), I like Purina Healthy Life, or Purina Naturals.
For canned food, they mainly like Friskies or Fancy Feast. After the melamine scare a couple years ago I tried to switch them over to the high-quality organic canned foods, but they won't touch them. Because of their extremely flat faces, I look for canned foods that are minced or sliced, and I feed off of flat china saucers that I have, because they can't get their faces into deep bowls. I also buy dry food with small bits, especially since one cat only has her lower canine teeth, not the uppers.
I also give them Petromalt hairball control paste a couple times a week, to help them eliminate hairballs.

I have 2 Persians, too!! Don't you just love their little mushed up faces? LOL
I feed the one girl, Diamond, exclusively moist, as she is over 8 years old and has lost several teeth before I got her. I also have one DSH dilute calico, Plum, who loves moist food, so she eats a bit as well.
The moist is Friskies Indoor formula. The DSH also gets Iams Naturals. The other girl, Himalayan Persian, Sophie, gets Royal Canin Persian 30 exclusively. She doesn't like wet and looks at the other 2 like they're crazy for eating it. Then, when they're done, she goes over and tries to cover it up. LOL
I LOL when I read your cat tries to cover up the wet food! - s/msg

I love their faces, too, and their sweet personalities. I got both of mine as adults from a Persian & Himalayan cat rescue. One is a 4 yr. old dominant calico long-haired Persian named Xanadu; the other is a 10 yr. old tan and white exotic shorthaired Persian named Charlotte. She was missing her 2 upper canines when I adopted her, but I didn't even know it 'til she went to the vet for her first checkup later. But it causes her to always stick out her tongue.
Each cat has her own, very UN-Persian-like characteristics:
Xanadu, if not a Persian, would probably be a Bengal. She is the fastest, most athletic cat I've ever had. Always running, jumping, climbing, and is a maniac about strings and paper bags.
Charlotte has the voice and talkativeness of a Siamese. She ALWAYS has something to say. I call her the "Foghorn". She's the most people-oriented cat I've ever known. When I drive 400 miles to my mom's for Thanksgiving, I bring Charlotte with me. The car ride isn't her favorite thing, mainly because she has to be in a carrier and isn't allowed to be loose in the car, but once there, she LOVES my mom's huge house, and having scores of people petting her and paying attention to her. She's also the first one to seat herself in a chair at the dinner table.
If Xanadu were a show-cat, she'd sure have the coat for it. It's IMMENSE. But even with daily combing, I can't keep up with the knots - she has enough undercoat in there to build yourself 2 more cats! So I give her a modified "lion cut" about twice a year. (I leave the tail full, though... last time her tail was shaved, it took more than 2 years to grow out). She's SO much happier with short hair.... relishes being petted (especially the wrong way!) and is even more frisky than she already is. I had to clip her early this year, while it's still winter. I made her a cat sweater to wear on the colder days out of an old 1980's leg-warmer, which she likes.
After having Charlotte, I'm hooked on Exotics. ("The lazy-man's Persian"). She has an undercoat, too, but doesn't knot up like Xanadu does. They're just SO funny! On YouTube there are lots of videos of an Exotic named "Winston", and he's so funny! He talks a lot, too.
I went to see a cat show last year, and wish I could've taken every Exotic home with me! Just love those little semi-stubby tails, stuffed-animal-like coats (Charlotte's other nickname is "Steiff"), mushed-in faces and round-as-Charlie-Brown heads.
I must admit, though, I saw a breed I'd never seen before at the show - a Singapura. Tiny little thing with great big eyes and a ruddy-colored, short coat similar to an Abyssinian. They're descended from the "drain cats" of Singapore. It was the sweetest, prettiest little cat! But, they're pretty rare, and MUCHO EXPENSIVO.
My former cat, Norman, was a flame-point Himmie from the same rescue. (He's the one who died from renal failure following a urinary tract obstruction). He was such a sweetie. Loved going for walks on a leash. I had to hang all my pictures really high on the walls, because he liked to attack them. Whenever I bent over, he would jump up onto my back. He'd spend his days sitting right next to my computer.
Yeah, I'm permanently hooked-on, and in love with, Persian and Himalayan cats. They're the BEST!

Update On Dog Food...no Go.Mar 21, 2011Won't touch the 4Health or Taste of the Wild. So, we're done spending a fortune on dog food. We're going back to Beneful. It seems to be the only thing she likes. Thank heavens, we only bought the small bags and they are gone now.
On the positive side, as long as she's not eating much, she might lose some weight. LOL ...

Cat With Possible Food Allergies?Apr 24, 2013Does anyone have a cat with food allergies? My white/tabby mix seems to always be itching but does not have fleas. His white ears are frequently pink and warm and he scratches quite a bit. Last night I noticed him licking his belly and it, too, was quite pink.
We have been round and round with this kitty since we inherited him from my MIL. He was always a puker and I have improved that condition with different food and hairball treats, but I'm wondering if the pukin ...

Just Some Food For Thought Here. May 01, 2015just heard about this. Why aren't we rioting in the streets? Why are these killings not reported just as well as black killings? School Food ProgramJan 25, 2012Listening to Rush this a.m. He was saying Michele Obama should abandon her attempts at improving nutrition in the schools. He said children refuse to eat the tofu that Michele wants them to eat. What is the point of warping this discussion beyond recognition? I visited my nephew's school and I was appalled at the school lunch. Chicken nuggets and pizza, etc. I have never heard Michelle talk about replacing this junk with tofu. Why not just go ba ...
Update On Dog Food ProblemMar 08, 2011Well, the very next day, DH went to get Blue Buffalo and instead came home with a 5 lb. bag of 4health ($6) and Taste of the Wild ($12) instead (he always listens to sales people). We started her on 4health and she didn't touch it the first day unless we put in 1/2 can of wet and veggies.
The second day she ate it with no problem. She also seems to be 'full' after eating and isn't crying or whining. The next day, she didn't even touch her breakfast until after lun ...

To dole out relief in this way is to administer a narcotic, a subtle destroyer of the human spirit.”

About Picking Up Restautant Food And TipMay 10, 2010We were talking at my office about picking up restautant food, and whether or not a tip is justified. Example, if you call in an order to a restaurant like Claim Jumper (citing an example a co-worker used) and you swing by to pick it up on the way home, would you tip? Technically, you're not in the restaurant and getting service. Typically, a tip is given due to the service provided by the waitstaff. I said maybe one would be justified if you stayed parked and they brought it to you. I usua ...

When I was a child growing up in the late 1940s and early 1950s one of my favorite radio programs was the continuing saga of The Lone Ranger. I would huddle next to the radio every night to follow the adventures of the Lone Ranger and his faithful companion, Tonto. Unfortunately, the program aired just about my bed time and, as often as not, my parents would insist that I miss part of the program and keep to the schedule they'd deemed appropriate. One nigh ...
