both sides clash in Ohio

Posted: Mar 17, 2010

Pro-health reform demonstrators and anti-reform demonstrators gathered in front of Rep Kilroy's office to express their views.  A man with a debiiltating neurological disorder was there in support of reform.  The anti-reformers gathered around him and shouted "No handouts here!" and other such comments.  Incidentally the anti-reform protestors who stated their neighborhoods to the local press ALL came from the oldest, wealthiest, snobbiest suburb in the city.  disgusting, disgusting.  America can be better than that.

Party of Hate - Jan
[ In Reply To ..]
Liberals learn this stuff from MoveOn, Daily Kos, OFA...it's a tactic. Attack and attack...the party of hate. They don't know the specifics of anything so they make personal attacks like middle school children. Just like the SEIU thugs who go to the Tea Parties and attack people or the SEIU thugs who make Hitler signs and claim to be tea party people and you see the MSM surrounding them taking pictures. Then, that's the only thing you see on the network news. See, they don't watch Fox who exposes these things so they don't think people actually know what they are doing. It's sad really.
Cons LEARN it from Faux news, and in particular - Glen Beck. Also

from Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Michelle Bachmann, Michael Savage, Karl Rove, Sarah Palin-now we have tea partiers coming out of the woodwork to harass and torment people who disagree with them, including the disabled. Now threats of gun violence. You want to talk about HATE??

I think both parties are guilty of making some pretty nasty comments and of over reaction at times, but lately with the tea bagger movement and the health care reform bill, things have escalated particularly on the side of the right to the point where it is dangerous. Someone is going to get hurt or killed.
Anti reform protesters trashed themselves. Clear as day. - They are getting really good at that.

be judged by the way its animals are treated." Well, we treat our animals badly, and often the weakest people of this country even worse! Many turn turn their backs on people by fighting to prevent them from getting decent medical treatment without losing everything they own. We allow them to be homeless and sleep in the streets. We judge and criticize those who can not feed their children due to money and so go on Medicaid/Welfare-even though it costs even more to put them into daycare so mom can take a job! They are labeled as Socialists (which I realize is an insult from the people doing it. I myself find I am having less of a problem with it the more I hear it used as an insult and the more I see people placing profits over people) and are being called lazy, drunks, druggies-it goes on and on. Buckeye, you said it. It is absolute garbage, it is selfish and reprehensible to treat people like this-not just allow them to suffer while passing judgment when we know nothing about their situation, but people like those being discussed here who actually go out of their way to humiliate and torment them! I am frightened of what this country has become, not because of Obama, but because there are so many that listen to nothing but hateful talk radio and TV and take to heart the attempts to incite violence and treatment like this of fellow citizens. What is wrong with this picture, and why can't some on this forum, and across the country see it? It is NEVER okay to treat other people like this, EVER, regardless of their political leanings, their color, their race, their gender, their religion, their sexual orientation, or anything else!

Sorry for the soapbox, but I feel very passionate about this and the way so many have lost any empathy or compassion for their fellow humans. It makes me ashamed. Enough of this. I am going to pick up my son now. :)
That guy can also blame it on people who ACT poor - hold up a "will work for food" sign,

making you uncomfortable so you give them something (which is what they WANT, certainly not a job.. a gift), then they drive off in their new Cadillac around the corner. Dont believe that story? It happened to me and others. I do get tired of working so hard, yet have an experience like that one. So, someone can misjudge, but it also can be from previous experiences that cause the behavior.
IMHO, that is a cop out. You can not turn - your back on people in

need because of something like this. You can not jump to the most cynical and pass judgment on every person in need, and there are obviously more people in genuine need now that before. Most people who are that bad off truly are. Sorry, but to me, there is no excuse for treatment like this of other people. The type of experience you mention may offer some explanation why you might be a little more reticent, but that is not the same, it is not a valid excuse, and as you seem like an intelligent person, I know you know that too.
Great post! I couldn't agree more. (sm) - Nikki

And out of curiosity, I wonder how many people were against healthcare reform and now are in favor of it due to massive increases in insurance premiums they've received.

It really is sad to see how some people just cannot be humane. Karma likely will take care of them, and they very well may be one illness away from walking in Parkinson shoes (or another disease).

MTs have been complaining for some time now about not being able to make much money. I will never understand how they (on this board) can choose to forge a relationship with Republicans, the people who care about them the least.

By the way, I thought your animal metaphor was right on!

So did Ghandi approve of killing the most innocent of us all... - Anon

Babies in the womb?

Somehow I doubt it. If you're going to hold Ghandi up as someone we should try to emulate, why not tell the whole story?

It's hard to take your comments seriously when you can't seem to shed a tear for the over 40 million babies murdered in this country since 1973....yet you judge your fellow Americans by how well they treat their animals.

That's pathetic.
Difference of opinion on one topic and it seems - that whenever you can
[ In Reply To ..]
not defend your stance on something you deflect and avoid addessing it by coming back to this. We are talking about the treatment of people, those who actually were babies and were actually born and are now up and walking around and being walked on by all of us! We walk past them on the street, we see them on the news. You seem to care nothing about these living, breathing people that you see every day and can not seem to shed a tear for them. Now, that is pathetic.

Now, we were discussing our ability as Americans to consider ourselves the best in the world, the richest country in the world, and yet our compassion has gone down the drain. We are somehow finding ourselves able to not only turn our back on the weakest among us and pretend they don't exist, but are also able to torment and humiliate them, and then turn around and justify it. Now, this is a moral issue. Personally, I think like everything else in this country, it comes down to one of 3 two things-power, money or religion. Any calm, rational insights as to why this has happened without digressing to the abortion issue?
Boy, jump to conclusions much? - Anon

posts. We were talking about healthcare, not abortion. Lately, it has been happening with you a lot. You try to justify things pointed out about the policies and/or actions of the repubs and you respond by not really responding to the initial remark and bringing up abortion instead. No jumping to conclusions. That is just the pattern of late. I am not insulting or name calling, btw, just making a point so if you respond to this it would nice if you would do the same.

Ohio voting just got a little harder, not because early voting has been cut down, and not because of new ID restrictions. That's right. Republicans are doing everything in their power to ensure a win in Ohio. The latest tactic works on a county by county basis. County by county it is decided whether or not to extend hours at the voting sites. Each county has a commission comprised of two dems and two pubs. You would think this would be a good thing to extend hours in this state right? ...
