You people seem to forget easily

Okay, think back when Obamacare was first enacted. Did anyone care about the millions who were kicked off of their insurance then. No.
Seems Democrats can do anything but not Republicans.
I will say I am disappointed, but glad that Mike Pence, my former governor, did warn Mr. Trump not to go entirely on Paul Ryan's bill. Mike Pence went along with Mr. Trump because he is president. However, he did warn him about Ryan.
To me, we now deal with two Republican parties and since when was this Tuesday Club and the other entity created, what year?
Looks like my cousin who has not had insurance for so long and is too young for Medicare is going to have to wait longer, but I am rather glad that this bill did not pass considering Paul Ryan crafted it. It would have penalized her again because she was between 50-64 because of age, which to me is age discrimination. Sure we get sicker when we get older, but that is not our fault either. We have genes, our choices and family histories that you cannot pick out for yourself.
Anyway, I am hoping Obamacare will just implode quickly and then they all have to work together.
I am sick of both parties. None of them are in their elected positions for the people. I am sick of them always worrying about how this looks for the 18 election. Why do none of them understand they wouldn't have to do so much campaigning if they have a record that is for the people and have done what they could in their positions to maintain the best interests of the people.
Again, Democrats don't have the right to do something but the Republicans can't do the same thing. Unreal.;

No, if the republicans would have come up - with something
[ In Reply To ..]
that would benefit more than the wealthy, it would have passed. Too many people would have been hurt by that plan.
You can criticize Obamacare all you want but it is better than before.
The problem in part is the whole idea of the ACA was that EVERYBODY get insurance. Those who feel nobody is going to tell them what to do and chose to pay the penalty helped drive the costs up. The ones who are also being hurt are the ones that live in states where they did not accept the Medicaid expansion. Those folks should complain to their republican governor who refused that.
Like it or not, those are the main contributing facts to why the rates jumped so much and companies pulled out of the exchanges. Insurance companies are in business to make money just like any other business. If all they are doing is paying claims for sick people and not having money come in from healthy young folks, what do you think was going to happen?
If the Republicans would have come up with something - sickened

"Those who feel nobody is going to tell them what to do and chose to pay the penalty helped drive the costs up." Right, because obviously it makes more sense for me to lose the roof over my head so I can comply with what I was forced to do. I don't know what the answer is, but quite simply I can't afford it.
Maybe I don't - want to

lose the roof over my head paying for your healthcare if you choose not to have it.
Maybe... - sickened

You should really be aware of what you're saying before you assume and sound uneducated. I have NO insurance, haven't for years because I can't afford it. I also prefer not to have my taxes go to someone who gets it for free or almost free.
I don't appreciated being called uneducated - just because you don't understand
[ In Reply To ..]
what I am saying. People who don't have insurance go to the ER for their healthcare. Whether it be for a cold or a serious accident or illness. Many of them don't pay their bills. Those bills get passed along to those of us who do have insurance.
Assuming/uneducated - sickened

And I don't appreciate your assumptions. I understand completely what you're saying. It is incorrect in my case. I couldn't begin to remember the last time I saw a doctor, went to the ER, had a mammo or Pap. I'm sure many people do that. I ALSO get the privilege of paying for their health care which I, myself, don't have, in taxes. So rest assured, you're not losing the roof over your head on little old me.
And I appreciate what you are saying in your - case

But if everybody who is just refusing to get insurance because they just don't want would then you might be able to and prices would be more affordable.
I agree - sickened

completely. Like I said, I don't have the answer and not looking for pity from anybody. I am single with a mortgage. In my case, it is quite simply purchase mandated insurance which I can't afford and lose my home. I'm not trying to be deliberately obstinate. I just think common sense has to prevail in my case.
I am just curious - Are you living in a state - where the Medicaid was not expanded?
[ In Reply To ..]
Have you also looked into your county to see if they offer an insurance program? I found that helpful when I couldn't get insurance and though it didn't cover major stuff, it did cover other things.
You have to purchase auto insurance - and home insurance...

same principal here, you have to purchase health insurance so you have backup to pay for catastrophic bills you cannot afford.
Catastrophic bills - sickened
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm not arguing with you. You have your opinion, I have mine. I GRASP the principal, simply can't afford it. I can't have a car or a house unless I have mandated insurance. As far as I know, I'm still allowed to live without the mandated health insurance. I have no idea why you "assume" I will ever have a catastrophic medical bill in the first place.
This comparison is flawed. A more accurate description would be - implementing a tax against people who don't d

Auto and home owner's insurance is real insurance; to purchase financial protection against unanticipated, catastrophic expense. It measures risks and charges lower premiums. It does not pay for routine mechanical or home maintenance.
Why doesn't the govt mandate we all buy auto insurance even if we don't have a car or home owner's insurance even though we don't own a home? This is what Obamacare is.

This is what keeps rates down. It is real insurance which covers risks.
But you can't buy it after you've had a car wreck or your house - burned down, which is what Obamacare is.

That's why it's not really insurance. Absurd!!

laws of each state. If you do not want to buy car insurance, you have several other options for transportation, UNLIKE OBAMACARE.
As for home owners, our state DOES NOT REQUIRE IT - IT IS NOT LAW. However, if you expect someone to finance your purchase, THE FINANCER usually requires insurance to protect their investment by lending you the money, which only makes sense...quite different. If you own your property, you assume full responsibility for any damage if you do not have insurance, but you are not required by law to carry insurance. HOMEOWNES INSURANCE IS YOUR CHOICE; AGAIN, UNLIKE OBAMACARE.
What Obamacare did was force Medicaid illegally - in states that did not sign on to it.
[ In Reply To ..]
To appease those states, it promised federal money temporarily. Now the plan is to give block grants but some states who had millions more people on Medicaid because of the illegal Obamacare still want their fed money.
It's a mess.
I agree with some of what you say! - anonon

I agree that the Affordable Care Act has flaws, but I do know it is better than what we had before. There also was the stubborn states that refused the Medicaid expansion which did not help their people. I think much of the hate comes from it just being called Obamacare because many did not like him. I think the basic idea is good - everyone participates and the price goes down - but there are too many things that don't make sense. All insurance plans should be required to provide some plans in the marketplace. You should be able to choose from plans in other states also to drive competitive pricing and there should be a few plans that are closer to the old catastrophic plans some people were on before. I know they wanted to avoid the unforseeable emergency room visits, but I think people should be allowed to make their own choice on types of plans they choose. They really already are, as many have opted not to get a plan and pay the penalty, which is taking the chance of having something happen to them and ending up in the emergency room, but that is life - we make choices for ourselves.
I think they have a good basic foundation to build on with the Affordable Care Act, but should make changes to it rather than just throwing it all out and starting over. Maybe if they just started with what they like about it - pre-existing conditions covered for example - and build from there it may just be easier for them. Ryan just wants to throw it out and take most of the responsibility from the federal government and throw it on the states, but I don't think that will wash with a lot of other republicans. He is going to have to change his thinking and maybe they can get it together.
