Who else feels like voting this year is choosing the

Posted: Sep 28, 2012

Well I got my absentee ballot in the mail today and I sat and stared at it for awhile and thought about playing eeny-meeny-miny-mo....both of you are bad so I really don't know.   What scares me about Romney though is his whole deal on banning abortion (I realize he isn't as extreme as people are making him on the issue) and the planned parenthood cuts.  Um sounds like a mathematical equation of No abortions + No birth control for the poor = Increased welfare cases.

It's rigged. There I said it. It's rigged. Yup said it again (okay it's 1:00 a.m. and feeling a little loopy :-) Seriously though, both candidates are bought and paid for by wall street. Whoever gets in will be who they want in.

I always revert back to the "my vote really counts ideology" and I will vote. But when I vote for someone I don't always agree with ever issue. Every issue they talk about is not important to me. Abortions don't affect me. I'm not going to be getting one and I don't know anyone who is looking at that. So his stance on abortions are nil to me.

So what I do is read up on Romney and Ryans views and what they are campaining on on all the different issues. Then I look at Obama's. I find that I agree with Romney/Ryan's issues more than I do Obama's and that is how I will be voting.

I could never understand this way of thinking. - I get that some are SM

against abortion but they should then be FOR birth control to prevent unwanted pregnancy. The premise "I don't want to pay for YOUR birth control" is a straw horse IMO. You're willing to cover the costs of Viagra and others though? LOL. The lies that have been told about Planned Parenthood spending 99 percent of their time performing abortions are shameful. Anyone who wants to defund PP should be ashamed of themselves. They provide well women exams, mammograms, cancer screenings, and a myriad of other services for women who are low income. Romney has said he supports a bill that would bestow personhood on a zygote, basically making many forms of contraception a crime. Do you really want these extremist views against women to become the law of the land? If not for you, vote against this for your daughters and granddaughters. Do you really want people who believe like Todd Akin does in our congress? I assume you know what he believes about rape, right?

Not me, OP. It's a dreadful paradox, but while the media don't - cover grave problems adequately, media negativity

overwhelmingly day after day, year after year has created a dispirit in the country, a won't-do, can't-do, will-never-be-done fatalism that is out of touch with reality. Behind what's reported, things are always happening, good things, fixes to some problems, changes that will leave others behind.

And no, of course we're far, far from okay. Effects on all of us and our descendents from climate change alone are going to be awful.

What we need to address our problems, though, is more people who will do just that. They're here working away, but all the dispirited dead weights getting their "information" from TV are a drag on the ship of state, having come to believe there's no point in bothering to be tough, strong, brave, to demand much better from our leaders. People with that attitude never accomplished anything great, ever. It's always the others.

BTW, I never vote for the person, but for what I believe/hope the administration will accomplish. Voting for someone who seems more likable or entertaining on a TV screen is a sucker's game.

As for this particular election, what I hope is that whichever way this goes, congress goes that way too and will start working again. That they will be jarred into action by the demands of angry voters. Most of our biggest problems are caused by inexcusable inaction, not just lately but over decades. Again, we have to require better.

It's never easy, for sure... - SK1

I don't think I've ever agreed 100% with any candidate, but I look at whose platform I agree with more and who I think is more capable of performing the duties.

Any time an incumbent is running we have the added benefit of being able to look at their current record in addition to their promises. That made it pretty easy for me this time, although I do keep listening and watching.

I don't think Romney will ever overturn Roe v. Wade. It would be political suicide and there are too many people who would fight him. I have mixed feelings about Planned Parenthood.... They do good work, but I can understand why some people don't want their tax dollars going towards performing abortions. It's too bad they can't find a way to split the program so that the one aspect could receive funding but not the other. Maybe someday they will.

I've never been a one-issue voter, though, so I have to look at the whole and think about what's good for the entire country, not just my personal interests. That's what makes it a challenge for me.

I applaud you. - TMT

Your post sounds so sane, reasonable, and honest. I only hope most voters will approach voting from those same intelligent aspects this November.

Planned Parenthood funding. sm - oldtimer

[ In Reply To ..]
Planned Parenthood receives about a third of its money in government grants and contracts (about $360 million in 2009). By law, federal funding cannot be allocated for abortions, but some opponents of abortion have argued that allocating money to Planned Parenthood for the provision of other medical services "frees up" funds to be re-allocated for abortion.

Also, when donating to PP you may request where your money goes. Bill and Melinda Gates donate large sums of money to PP and direct that the money NOT go to abortions.

That's good to know.... - SK1

But at the end of the line, I'm not sure it makes any difference if they're one in the same agency. They can distribute funds any way they want to on paper, but if the same entity is providing both services, it's really not a true delineation.

Would you trust PP to abide - by your request?

Without Choosing Your Favorite Candidate, Who Is Going To Win? May 03, 2016
This is like a soap opera playing out.  Will Bernie win against Hillary as more negative publicity is coming out about her?   Will Trump win over Cruz since he annoys so many or will Trump lose because people dislike him more than Cruz. I have never followed political campaigns so closely as this one and part of the reason is it is really amusing, like watching a roller coaster of events. Any thoughts on winners and losers?    Will Bernie and Cruz get out of the r ...

If You Think We The People Are Choosing Our Leader, Think AgainFeb 29, 2016
It is a huge joke to say that we the people are choosing our candidates for president. The media are making the candidates to suit their viewpoints. Most states do not vote till May like mine. By the time I get to vote, it will be the lesser of two evils again. If you ask me, the only fair thing is to put all the candidates on the ballots and let the people in all states vote at the same time. Only then will they not come out getting ahead by these ridiculous polls they concoct. I have ...

I Don't Know If Anyone Else Feels This Way Oct 30, 2012
or not but I will be SO glad when this election is over.  I'm so tired of the ads and the constant bashing from both sides.  I'm sick of hearing stupid stories about Obama eating dog and Romney strapping his to his car.  I'm so tired of the rhetoric from both candidates with no direct answer from either of them.  I'm tired of the promises and finger pointing.  I'm just ready to be done with it!!  Come on Nov 6th!!!!  It can't come ...

Which Is Worse, Trump Choosing To Interview On Russian State-owned TV OrSep 09, 2016
or claiming to be tricked by Larry King into doing an interview on Russian-owned state TV?   Is his judgment so poor Larry King can fool him?  Or is his judgment so poor he actually thinks it is a good idea to go on Russian TV and badmouth the U.S.? Feels Like Hip Partial DislocationJul 15, 2015
Has anyone else had a pain when the hip joint of your foot pedal foot shifts out of place? My right foot turns out to the right from 30 years of using a foot pedal with it. I now use my left foot.  It is excruciating pain and I can't bear weight, but it usually resolver with a slight shift of foot position and no more pain. I think it's due to the position on the foot pedal all these years.   ...

"A 2-year-old Kentucky girl was accidentally killed by her 5-year-old brother who fired a rifle he had been given as a gift, officials said Wednesday." Because Voting In Ohio Just Isn't Hard Enough..smAug 10, 2012
Ohio voting just got a little harder, not because early voting has been cut down, and not because of new ID restrictions. That's right. Republicans are doing everything in their power to ensure a win in Ohio. The latest tactic works on a county by county basis. County by county it is decided whether or not to extend hours at the voting sites. Each county has a commission comprised of two dems and two pubs. You would think this would be a good thing to extend hours in this state right? ...

In Response To Below Re: Why Are You Voting For TrumpJul 24, 2016
It is painfully obvious that President Obama used the tools he had available in order to do something. Unfortunately, the only thing republicans (the ones in control of congress) know is dictatorship - they know nothing about real life and how one has to compromise.
