Without Choosing Your Favorite Candidate, Who Is Going To Win? May 03, 2016
This is like a soap opera playing out.  Will Bernie win against Hillary as more negative publicity is coming out about her?   Will Trump win over Cruz since he annoys so many or will Trump lose because people dislike him more than Cruz. I have never followed political campaigns so closely as this one and part of the reason is it is really amusing, like watching a roller coaster of events. Any thoughts on winners and losers?    Will Bernie and Cruz get out of the r ...

If You Think We The People Are Choosing Our Leader, Think AgainFeb 29, 2016
It is a huge joke to say that we the people are choosing our candidates for president. The media are making the candidates to suit their viewpoints. Most states do not vote till May like mine. By the time I get to vote, it will be the lesser of two evils again. If you ask me, the only fair thing is to put all the candidates on the ballots and let the people in all states vote at the same time. Only then will they not come out getting ahead by these ridiculous polls they concoct. I have ...

Who Else Feels Like Voting This Year Is Choosing TheSep 28, 2012
Well I got my absentee ballot in the mail today and I sat and stared at it for awhile and thought about playing eeny-meeny-miny-mo....both of you are bad so I really don't know.   What scares me about Romney though is his whole deal on banning abortion (I realize he isn't as extreme as people are making him on the issue) and the planned parenthood cuts.  Um sounds like a mathematical equation of No abortions + No birth control for the poor = Increased welfare cases. &nbs ...

Which Is Worse, Trump Choosing To Interview On Russian State-owned TV OrSep 09, 2016
or claiming to be tricked by Larry King into doing an interview on Russian-owned state TV?   Is his judgment so poor Larry King can fool him?  Or is his judgment so poor he actually thinks it is a good idea to go on Russian TV and badmouth the U.S.? There is a frequent poster here that is always accusing liberals of being Marxists and communists.  What do you think of a Republican candidate that is acting as the puppet of a Russiian quasi-dictatorship? ...

Seriously, Will This Turkey Ever Be Thawed??Nov 24, 2009
2 days in the fridge, it's still a brick -- a 22-pound brick.  now it's soaking in the sink, but the packaging says "don't thaw in water in the sink".  is that cuz it's butter-basted, or just cuz it's against the turkey-thawing rules?  looks like turkey-sicles on thursday --- help! ...

Anybody Every Spatchcocked A Turkey Before?Jan 19, 2017
I have about a 12 pound turkey in my freezer.  My hubbie gets a turkey at thanksgiving and ham at Christmas from his work.  I didn't cook the turkey because we went to family for Thanksgiving.  I was looking at the turkey in the freezer this morning and was wondering about spatchcocking it.  I've never tried this, but I saw this on the cooking channel before and I think my turkey is the right size to do it.   Anyone have any luck with it?  I'm thinki ...

Washing A TurkeyNov 20, 2014
We got going on a discussion below about Thanksgiving disasters, and the conversation got to washing turkeys before cooking them. This is not a good practice. You can spread more salmonella and other bacteria washing raw poultry. All it does is splatter rawness in the sink, on the faucets, on the counters, on your clothes, etc. Cooking to the proper temperature (165 degrees at the fattest part of the breast) kills anything you are concerned about. ...

Same Old Turkey Dinner Every Year.Nov 13, 2012
Every year I make turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, deviled eggs, cranberry sauce, homemade bread and pumpkin pie.  The daughters will bring another dessert or two.  These are all traditional foods that my family enjoys, but I am so bored with it.  I need some new, fresh, and different ideas.  Even if I did something different with the beans or potatoes.  Maybe a fruit salad? I still want some of the traditional foods, but does anyone have any idea ...

Teens Who Only Like Turkey, No Veggies/smNov 19, 2012
I have been preparing for weeks for Thanksgiving. Have 4 teenaged grandkids who will only try the turkey. They usually only like mac and cheese or pizza. Should I include a homemade version of mac and cheese with my meal? There is no way I will go with the packaged stuff they usually eat. It's either that or to see them with a little turkey only on their plates. Hopefully they will change over the years. My menu includes turkey, stuffing and all the veggies one could imagine for the grownup ...

Six Changes I'd Like To See To The Electoral Process:May 16, 2016
1.  No organization of any kind other than a political party may contribute money or other valuable consideration to any political candidate.  This includes unions, businesses, religious organizations, nonprofits, etc.  No individual may contribute more than $1000 to any candidate. 2.  To limit the amount of money needed by candidates, radio and TV broadcasters, who make a bloody fortune by exploiting a national resource (the nation's airwaves), cannot charge for politi ...

Turkey Experts - Do You Prefer HEN Or TOM TurkeysNov 22, 2010
This is a really dumb question, but since we had always gone to my sister’s house for Thanksgiving (she cooked the turkey and we brought all the rest of the stuff), I personally have not made a turkey in something like 15 years.  But it was getting harder and harder to get everyone in one place, with all the kids being adults with their own families, in-laws to visit, etc.  Then we do the whole thing again at Christmas.  So this year, instead of having the whole family at o ...

Unique Turkey/Stuffing LeftoverNov 13, 2012
Okay, so I'm posting ahead of time, but I just saw something interesting on the show "The Chew," the food talk show with Mario Batali, Michael Symon, Daphne (Dr. Oz's daughter) and Carla. They took leftover stuffing and turkey, stuffed it in red peppers and baked it, then threw gruyere cheese on top and broiled it till cheese was melted.  They cut the bottoms off the peppers just enough so there was no hole, but the pepper could stand up in a baking dish. I thought that sou ...

Question Regarding Thawed Turkey BreastFeb 10, 2014
Today I thawed a turkey breast (thawed it in cold water in the fridge).  Planned to make dinner tonight with it.  It is now thawed, but we are really not in the mood for what I had planned.  My question is will it last overnight in the fridge or once thawed do I need to use it right away? Thanks. ...

Should Your Turkey Be Taxed For Climate Change? Nov 25, 2015
As Americans prepare for their Thanksgiving Day feasts, there's an issue on the horizon that could make that turkey more expensive: taxing meat to reduce climate change. Livestock is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, adding about the same amount of emissions as that of all the world's vehicles, according to a new report from the U.K. policy institute Chatham House. But many consumers aren't aware of the link between their dinner plates and climate change, the re ...

Any Tips On Using Cold Water To Defrost A 17-pound Turkey?Nov 17, 2011
I usually buy fresh birds, but opted for the more budget-friendly 39-cents-per-pound rock-solid frozen version this time  This turkey will be cooked before Sunday (hving an erly get-together), so I don't quite have enough time to defrost it in the fridge.  The instructions suggest submersion in "cool" water in the sink for 30 minutes per pound, with frequent water changes.  It has air-tight vacuum sealed packaging.  I'm thinking that changing the wat ...

GOP, Pointing To Big Virginia Losses, Discussing ProcessNov 07, 2013
"“Conventions by nature force candidates and campaigns to focus on a very small group of party activists,” said Phil Cox, executive director of the Republican Governors Association and a longtime Virginia-based strategist. He grimaced at the successful movement by conservative activists in his state earlier this year to switch from a primary system to a convention system. “If the goal is actually to win elections, holding more primaries would be a good start.” [Ah, and ...

I Am In The Process Of Divorce And My Ex And His Friends Are Making Me Crazy!Aug 11, 2014
My soon-to-be ex recently moved in with his buddy and his buddy's wife and their grandkids (whom they are raising) because his utilities were shut off because he doesn't have a job and didn't pay his bills.  Long story short, he hasn't even looked for a job since moving in with his buddy.  His answer to his financial woes is to try to get into a drug study where they pay you cash for being a lab rat.  He has tried to get into three studies.  The first stud ...

Interesting Inside Look At Primary Caucus Process...Mar 23, 2016
This isn't a comment about the GOP.  I have little doubt that primaries on the other side are run just as....(ahem!) informally. UTAH CAUCUS: First hand insider report - Incompetence, Manipulation, and Ballot Stuffing!!!Just got back from my caucus... My head is still spinning.Check in was slow but reasonably controlled. House Bill Would Restore Respect For Immigration Law And The Constitutional ProcessJan 08, 2015
The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) applauds the introduction of Repeal Executive Amnesty Act of 2015, a bill that would not only defund the president's unconstitutional amnesty, but would block further attempts by this or future administrations to rewrite immigration laws through executive memos. After six years of systematically dismantling and undermining immigration enforcement, the Repeal Executive Amnesty Act, introduced by Reps. Robert Aderholt (R-Ala.),&n ...

Well, Hillary Won Hands DownSep 26, 2016
I really don't know what Trump's sniffling was about, but all I could think about was how I want to hand the docs a tissue and tell them to go blow their nose when they are dictating and snorting.   Maybe he has pneumonia and snorts coke? When Clinton got into her subject, she was really good.  It is too bad she is not more comfortable when speaking, then she would be phenomenal.    Wow, Trump turned into a babbling fool that last half.    ...

How many of us here dabbled in witchcraft as a teen? I got to thinking about O'Donnell's defense which seems to be the standard, "Who didn't do this when she/he was a teen?". I must have been the biggest stick in the mud when I was a kid. I never broke the law. I never stole things. I never raced my parents' car. I didn't smoke or drink. My parents liked my friends and my friends parents liked me. I never dabbled in witchcraft. Gee. I guess I am not quali ...

Shaking HandsMay 24, 2010
This is a silly pet peeve of mine.  First let me say that I don't like the "turn around and greet your neighbor" in church where everyone shakes hands.  Immediately afterwards I have a strong urge to wash my hands, and try to remember to bring the antiseptic wipes.   It is not healthy, but here's my main issue (As Jane Velez-Mitchell would say)   I always thought that women should not shake hands.  To me it is just a manly thing to do, and just t ...

VR Bothering My HandsJul 28, 2010
Is anyone else doing VR beginning to have problems with your hands?  I started VR about 6 months ago, have been doing transcription for 30 years, but the last month my right hand and up my inner arm from wrist to elbow has been absolutely killing me, painful all the time and now I cannot even hardly hold a pen and write without causing more pain.  Went to the doctor today and he says it is from the repetitive motion, stretching from the main keyboard to the up/down arrow keys and comma ...
