Clarifying myself on voting for Bernie
Posted: Jan 18, 2016
Just Google Communism, Socialism, Marxism and Capitalism and decide if you want to vote for Bernie Sanders or any Democrat.
The only Democrat I ever liked was Kennedy. I wish that they had not assassinated him. I wonder what our country would be like now.
So, get your mind off of me getting hung up on the hearings. All I know is that we have fought Communism in other countries like Vietnam, etc. We don't like Communism or socialism.
I would check out on each one the way that they want you to live. That might hopefully help you make up your mind and if it is a right decision. I am not telling you to vote Republican, but I am telling you to be very careful. Obama has nearly ruined our country and still has lots of months yet to do more damage. Scares me what he will do with his phone and pen next.
Whatever a man does and it is not right, should be nipped in the bud not allowed to persist. That goes for Bush too. ;
SOCIAL Security, MC, public highways, education, health? - socialist

Do you really want to give up the military, public safety, fire departments, police, safe water (unlike Michican's Republican governor).
I hope you will answer this.
FDR, the greatest president of the 20th century was a - democratic socialist! nm

FDR was not an uber socialist like BS. He is probably rolling over in his grave with the thought that people are trying to remodel his ideals or attempt to compare themselves to him. Geesh!!
I think you had better study up on FDR. - sm

"A chicken in every pot" was his campaign slogan. Many of our "socialist" programs were begun by FDR. I won't list them for you but they are easily found on Google. President Eisenhower, though a republican, is responsible for our interstate highway system, a socialist program. I am proud to say that Bernie is very much in tune with FDR, as well as, JFK, MLK and RFK.
Nothing "socialist" about the national highway system. - Help us, Hannah. Do any socialists here

...even know what socialism is?
Paid for by taxes for the use of all free of charge (no tolls). - Socialist program. Nm

No, that is NOT the definition of a "socialist" system - or all governments would be socialist.
[ In Reply To ..]
Any government with a water supply system, an electrical grid, a communications system, a postal system, etc.
My God, don't you people know anything?
The definition of socialism is who owns and/or controls the MEANS OF PRODUCTION. The public highway system was a system of contracts between the government and PRIVATELY OWNED road construction companies. THERE IS NO FEDERAL ROAD-BUILDING ENTITY! When you go through road construction areas on a federal highway, you're seeing private companies working on those roads. (There are some state and local road maintenance departments, of course, but that's another thing altogether from the federal highway system that Eisenhower initiated.)
Bingo! That's what you are missing. Social is... - sm

"for the people". It does not matter who actually builds it. What does matter is that all of our taxes were used to build and maintain it for the use of all of us. It is called democratic socialism, public schools, libraries, police and fire departments, government assistance programs, the military, etc., all paid for by the people for the benefit of all the people. Our forefathers instructed us to "promote the general welfare".
Socialism for the rich. - sm

The problem is we now have excessive socialism for the rich (bailouts of Wall Street, subsidies for Big Ag and Big Pharma, monopolization by cable companies and giant health insurers, giant tax-deductible CEO pay packages) – all of which Bernie wants to end or prevent.

Perhaps you should first understand what socialism is. An economic system in which the production and distribution of goods are controlled substantially by the government rather than by private enterprise or a system in which ownership is held in common (shared ownership) rather than individually. it has nothing to do with what the individual contributes, how much or how little. you all end of up the same. So here you go.... I have $1, you have $20. I now have $21 dollars because you can't own yours. Really what you want? Here's an example. There is a class of 30 students. they take a test. 10 students work hard and study and they get As, 10 students do not work and do not study and get Fs. The remainder get Bs, Cs, and Ds depending on their work and study. But the teacher thinks this is isn't "fair" to everyone" and all should "share" so she averages the grades and all get Cs. The kids who failed now think "I never need to work because I will pass anyway" and the ones who studied think "why should I work and study so hard when all I get is the same C as the kid who did nothing." So they stop working and studying. The next time the teacher gives a test ..... guess what happens when those students don't study or work. That's it - They ALL fail. Socialism 101. No incentive or motivation because why bother? You're not going to realize the fruits of your labor anyway but have to share it with all those who did nothing. Study some history and see how the people living under socialism in other nations have felt about it. Recall the infamous socialist leaders. how could anyone want this???
That is just silly. No one is trying to make the...sm - VTMT

US a purely socialist country. We are talking democratic socialism where there is equal opportunity for all and the wealthy no longer run roughshod over the middle class and the poor. Examples are the Scandinavian countries, Canada, Iceland.
We were in Vietnam because of Communism? - That's what they sold to U.S. population
[ In Reply To ..]
The real reason for entering the Vietnam conflict included needs to project military and political strength, to promote America’s economic interests, and to extend the nation’s sphere of influence.
and, of course, war is just plain good for the economy.
Who do you think took over when the US pulled - out of Vietnam??!!

speaking of being tired of that garbage surfacing again--it was crap then and it's crap now!
And, oh look, since we didn't beat them, we "joined" them and do business with Vietnam. (Corporate America couldn't keep up the lies and making money off of the war---so they opened up business routes.)
Thank God we didn't take on the Chinese, and just chose to do business with that communist nation without the blood shed.
Vietnam - Sold a bill of goods

I'm afraid this is true. And to the person who said that Kennedy was the only Democrat they liked, he was actually the one who got us into that mess, beginning with "military advisers." Whether or not he would have ended it is up for debate, but his cabinet (Robert McNamara and others) pushed for military involvement and it escalated under Johnson and Nixon. We were trying to protect a corrupt government and US financial interests (Michelin rubber and others). I don't know why you think we'd have a perfect world under JFK, he was a politician just like the rest, daddy's money got him elected, and the family was far from lily-white.
