Voting for Bernie Sanders

Now you all can flame me, but having lived through the 50s and 60s when Communism was a threat to our country, I cannot fathom anyone voting for Bernie Sanders. Socialism is too similar to Communism and eventually turns to Communism. You mean to tell me you would like your life being paid a specific salary and if you were luckily someone who made more than average salary or was an attorney or doctor or someone educated, how would you like someone coming in to take your money after all the schooling you had to go through to become either. It just does not make sense to vote Bernie if you don't want Hillary. Vote for the other man or vote Republican or independent or just write in someone and vote for that one. I just know what people did not want back in the 50s and 60s, Communism nor Socialism. Please reconsider this. Read history and if you did not take Civics and Economics or a good American History course as well as World History, I suggest you read some of the older school books. I fear anyone wanting to elect someone like this. I have not made up my mind who I will vote for but we all have to take this seriously, especially really young people. ;

[ In Reply To ..]advocating any of the things you are afraid of. It sounds like you have fallen prey to the fear mongers. You should go to Bernie's website and get your information on the issues he believes in there. Simply, he wants the very rich and large corporations to pay their fair share of taxes. Some pay little or none because they hide their assets offshore and use tax loopholes. Big corporations like Wal-Mart don't pay their employees a living wage and families require public assistance to feed their families. He believes that Wall Street and the big banks that caused our economic meltdown should not only pay, but the people responsible should be tried for their crimes and go to jail. It is not about communism, it is about democratic socialism which is very successful. It reins in capitalism so we all have an equal opportunity to succeed.
McCarthy caused the communism scare back in the 50s when president Eisenhower was in office and there was no danger. This was later proven to be true. I was also alive then and remember it well. He ruined many lives with his irrational fear mongering. Kind of like is happening today.

Fairly fresh out of school, and even though I had liberal professors, I have made up my own mind that the principles on which this country were founded were the best in the world. It serves no one and no interest to disincentivize anyone from trying to improve their life only to have their efforts pay for someone else who has no ambition.
I watched that joke of a debate last night. All that talk about crime in poor cities, etc., made me ill. A lot of the criminals have no concept of legal ways to make a living and have no interest in learning. They just want to sell drugs, steal from others and be king of the hill. Their life situations are their own doing, not because they didn't have a chance to make something of themselves. We have all had the same opportunities. The difference is how we go about tapping into those opportunities.
I will not be voting in the democratic primary. I will, however, be voting for a Republican president, whomever the nominee may be.

I have five grandchildren that will be voting for the first time. My only wish for them is that they are compassionate human beings, not ones who will say, "I've got mine, screw you"! Veterans, seniors, military families, the disabled, poor children and families, will thank them.

I am a registered Democrat, but it took me a while to decide, first few times I voted I was independent.
No "ambition?" Please, true Democrats realize there are so many injustices built into the system that you could have all the ambition in the world and yet it is very difficult to improve your life.
If you are an MT, you would realize that. Every single day I transcribe extremely complicated and sometimes very badly dictated reports, and every day I think how devalued our work has become and how did that happen? I used to get $20/hr for a SKILLED job that is worth that. Now I am lucky to get $12/hr. This is due to offshoring and the deregulation of the labor market - same reason Wal-Mart can pay such low wages that all their employees are on welfare and food stamps, and I am heading there myself through no fault of my own.
It has absolutely nothing to do with ambition. We have NOT all had the same opportunities, I'm afraid.
I know it is a real dream/belief/wish of Republicans that Democrats will "see the light" so maybe you are portraying that, or maybe you just simply have come to your current viewpoints after changing your mind (although you don't say why you registered Democrat and yet have all these Republican talking points - maybe Fox News has changed your mind or Rush Limbaugh?)
Personally, the older and more knowledgeable I get, I am going the other way. The Republican party is trying to take every single right of workers away to make a decent living. If you say "market forces" then tell me what job won't people like Trump and Romney be able to offshore and pay the rest of us left behind a pittance?
