50-year-old CARTOON: MAKE MINE FREEDOM by Harding College

This is a pretty neat cartoon (yes, it’s political but OMG! See for yourself).

the beginning of the 1960s, late '50s, which that happy picture presumably portrays, the top 0.01% of our people paid tax rates ranging from 70 to 92%. That's an indicator of why everyone was so happy and prosperous in that film and why the little lady could stay home with the children--our nation was tending its various working classes, building a large and vigorous middle class instead of sacking its working people to build a tiny billionaire class.

I don't think this cartoon exemplifies what you think it does - sm...

Mr. Ism represents not the government, but the unbridled, unscrupulous manipulation of weak-minded people by big money and big power. It's about the strength-in-numbers of any of the popular "-isms" that people espouse without thinking, and the power of those isms over rational thought.

The only thing that is compelling to me about this cartoon is the degree to which the right wing has coopted its message, thus confusing the heck out of conservatives and making Tea-Partyism a wolf in sheep's clothing.

You are so right. Note Rush wouldn't be so successful if he - was called Roco and twirled a greasy mustache. :)

Conservative David Frum blames election on the "conservative - entertainment complex" sm

Mainly Fox News on TV, radio hosts like Rush, Beck, others, and internet rags such as Breitbart and Drudge.

All this expensive and very goal-directed "entertaining" pushes -isms big time, which fooled people who listened from the bottom all the way to the highest, supposedly most knowledgeable reaches of the party.

and Fox do more than shape opinion. Backed by their own wing of the book-publishing industry and supported by think tanks that increasingly function as public-relations agencies, conservatives have built a whole alternative knowledge system, with its own facts, its own history, its own laws of economics.”

Anyone Watch Any Good Scary Movies Lately?Jul 15, 2011
My husband and I rented a new scary movie last night, one that looked really good and really scary, and it was the biggest letdown ever.  In fact, I cannot even think of one scary movie that I have watched in a long time that was actually scary or even good for that matter.  Any recommendations?  ...

Insurance Companies Do HEDIS This Time Of YearNov 20, 2015
If you are burned out on transcription and want to not sure what to do, this is the time of year when all of the insurance companies start hiring temps to do their annual HEDIS projects.  The projects last 5-6 months and pay well.  Call your local temp agencies and ask about them.  I went from transcriptionist to working on one HEDIS project in 2014, did odd jobs til the 2015 project started, was on unemployment for a few months for the first time in my life and then got hired on ...

Home Temps And What Do You Wear Around The House This Time Of Year?Jan 21, 2016
The thread about winter storm prep made me wonder what temperatures people keep their homes? What temp is your thermostat set (when you are home) during the winter? Here in NE Florida, it's chilly enough this time of year to wear sweats/turtlenecks/wool sox! I know they aren't very attractive, but I'm coldddddddddddddd!!! Going to make some hot tea. A Really Neat Graph For You To Look AtMar 21, 2011
It's an approval poll that compares all the presidents from Truman through Obama. You can move your pointer across at the bottom to find out what happened for the highs and lows. For instance, the Bay of Pigs is highlighted, as is Viet Nam. If you move your pointer up or down on the graph, it will give you the total percentage and you don't have to try to figure it out by yourself. http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/presidential-approval-tracker.htm ...

Saw A Neat IdeaMay 31, 2013
We often talk about what should the kids do while you're working. I saw the neatest idea in a Heloise column. The person said to take raw rice, place it in a bin of sorts (I'm thinking dishpan), and get a toy shovel and pail and other "beach" items. It gave instructions on how to dye the rice pretty colors, but I don't remember those instructions. Anyway, it sounds like something a 2 to 4year-old would totally enjoy. Little kids love to fill things up, dump them, fill them up aga ...

2-year-old Kentucky Girl Accidentally Killed By Her 5-year-old Brother May 01, 2013
"A 2-year-old Kentucky girl was accidentally killed by her 5-year-old brother who fired a rifle he had been given as a gift, officials said Wednesday." Parents can be arrested for not reporting a missing child. It's not even legal to let your child drive a car without a permit. Yet, this sad, sad story is unfortunately way too common. We MUST start holding adults accountable for guns in the home. ...
