WI fight is not over. A restraining order has been placed

Posted: Mar 18, 2011

The judge blocked the law taking effect temporarily until a hearing is held and there will be a ruling on the merits. Were they were in special session or open session? If they were in special session, they don't have to give ANY notice. If it was an open session, they needed to give 24 hours notice.

Watch for news on this.

Here's what I don't get... For those who are supportive of this bill regarding collective bargaining rights, I'd like to know if you're kinda ticked at how it's been handled. I mean, first, it took them weeks to figure out that this item could be removed from the rest and be done separately. Isn't that something that they should have known could be done right away (and if they changed something in the interim in order to do it, I'm sorry I'm not aware of it)? And then, they completely disregarded the laws regarding open meetings. Even if an emergency was declared, they only waited 1 hour and 55 minutes instead of the full 2 hours as required by the law. They couldn't wait 5 minutes... even better, wait 24 hours to be on the safe side? If I did my job the way these guys have been doing their job, I think I'd be fired.

Maybe their clocks were all off. - Backwards Typist

None of my clocks in my place nor the TV has the same time. Some are ahead by 5 minutes, some by 2 minutes. My stupid coffee pot clock is gains minutes every day. It's now an hour ahead of the real time...whatever that may be. LOL

(making a joke, I'm not serious).

Here is what I don't get - sm

people who continually point out the wrong doings of one political party while blindly following the other.

I'm sure the democratic party has never done anything at all questionable, right?

Seriously....all politicians suck. It doesn't matter what party they are in. They will all cheat and scheme to get their way. I always thought lawyers were the lowest life form on the planet....makes sense that politicians are too since most of them are lawyers themselves.
I don't believe that I do that - no1joe

Especially since I'm not a Democrat. I tend to point out what I perceive as being hypocritical and/or absolutely ridiculous. Not my fault that I tend to find more ridiculousness coming from one side than the other. And, as a matter of fact, I started a post not too long ago about politicians I felt were doing their jobs beautifully and actually reminded me of what democracy is all about... they just so happened to be conservative Republicans.

I agree to a point that some, not all, politicians suck... big time. However, being an MT in an industry where we are sometimes penalized or even terminated because of something as ridiculous as overuse of a comma or not following an absurd rule of the BOS or client specs, it irks me to see others out there who are still considered successful while being thoroughly incompetent. Where can I get a gig like that... one where I still get paid well for doing a lousy job? Again, if people are supportive of the recent bill regarding collective bargaining in Wisconsin, do they feel that they are effectively being represented by this group who do not know the law and cannot tell time? IMO, their actions fall on the ridiculous side of my spectrum, and I'd be ticked.

Won't they just hold the vote again, legally if they have to? - nm

the notice and vote it again anyway. The Democrats don't have enough votes to stop it...that is why they left the state in the first place. They have already played that card, even if they played it again it would not work.

It pains me to see democracy thwarted in this manner. That is the whole basis of our government and Democrats in Wisconsin apparently think they should only be "democratic" if the vote is going to go their way.

From what I understand, this will be appealed, if - appeal denies, on to SM

supreme court, which will take time. In the meantime, supreme court having election in early April, depending on how that goes, the 4/3 repub majority could change to 4/3 dem majority. Add in the recall situation going on. I heard they already have 70 percent of the signatures needed. All of this takes time, so when all is said and done, who knows? (This is all my interpretation of something I heard today, so I may not be correct on some of the info):)

I heard that the Democrats' recall program is going strong, Republicans' not so much - because the Democrats have been so energized

[ In Reply To ..]
The Democrats are now motivated to an extent not seen for a long time. This is the best thing that has happened to them for years!

The Middle Class needs a catalyst like this occasionally to keep our country healthy, to keep some kind of balance. Otherwise we would be overpowered and we would look like 3rd-world countries, the uber-rich controlling everything. I think this is healthy.
Oh, how pathetic. What we really need is a new - PRESIDENT... a leader.. hurry up 2012 !.nm

our democracy by running from a vote because they knew they could not win. It really does pain me to see that happen and not only happen, be celebrated by people.

Imagine the uproar if all the Republicans had left Washington before the obamacare vote. I doubt the left would be hailing them as heroes.

Just pretty disgusted with politicians in general, the Democrats who abandoned their jobs in Wisconsin in particular, right now.

What happened to letting democracy work?

I believe they were required to give - 24 hours NM

President Signs Order To Fight SuperbugsSep 18, 2014
As one who has been personally impacted by MRSA I am happy to see this.  Three years ago I had a spider bite that was progressively getting worse.  I wasn't alarmed as I was waiting for my scheduled doctor's appointment coming up in a few days.  The day of my appointment I passed out 2 times in five minutes. My organs were shutting down one-by-one and my brain was beginning to be oxygen deprived, which is why I passed out.  My doctor called a surgeon to his office t ...

Here's An Update On The FightApr 08, 2011
It goes by minutes...and by the way, I noticed that the Cherry Blossom Festival will go on.....Reid was so worried about it not happening. On the other Reid comment about women's health and pubs want to take away that funding.  Planned Parenthood is VERY involved in abortion and unplanned pregnancies besides providing other services to women. If so, this is where most of the fight is all about now, and this is why they want to unfund PP. If PP wouldn't provide abortions, then the ...

We Have Only Just Begun To FightMar 23, 2010
The American people spoke decisively against a big government, high tax, Washington knows best, pro-trial lawyer centralized bureaucratic health system. In every recent poll the vast majority of Americans opposed this monstrosity. Speaker Pelosi knew the country was against the bill. That is why she kept her members trapped in Washington and forced a vote on Sunday. She knew if she let the members go home their constituents would convince them to vote no. The Obama-Pelosi-Reid machine ...

Republicans Plot An Immigration FightJan 09, 2015
Republicans won't have to wait long to find out exactly how much power their new Senate majority gives them in Washington. US Blocking Shipments Of Arms To Help Kurds Fight ISISJul 02, 2015
If so, why is the United States blocking shipments of heavy armaments to the Kurds? Liberals Lose Their Cool In The Supreme Court Fight Over ObamacareNov 18, 2014
On Nov. 7, the Supreme Court said it would entertain the latest legal assault on President Obama’s health-reform program. Obama Faces Potential Rifts With Democrats In Mounting Immigration FightAug 17, 2014
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is facing potential rifts with members of his own party in tough re-election contests as he barrels toward a fall fight with Republicans over his ability to change immigration policies. If Obama takes the broadest action under consideration — removing the threat of deportation for millions of people in this country illegally — the short-term risks appear greatest for Senate Democrats in conservative-leaning states.
