Here's an update on the fight

Posted: Apr 8, 2011

It goes by minutes...and by the way, I noticed that the Cherry Blossom Festival will go on.....Reid was so worried about it not happening.

On the other Reid comment about women's health and pubs want to take away that funding.  Planned Parenthood is VERY involved in abortion and unplanned pregnancies besides providing other services to women. If so, this is where most of the fight is all about now, and this is why they want to unfund PP. If PP wouldn't provide abortions, then they would probably not be unfunded. Between the time I read the Reid comment about women's health and typing this up, he now says it is against federal law to fund abortions. so what's the problem here?  He's just spinning his wheels and I don't think he knows what he's talking about anymore.

Tax dollars should not be funding abortion - when a good bit of the

[ In Reply To ..]
country believe abortion is murder and don't want their tax dollars funding it. If liberals want the government to stay out of womens' wombs then they need to stay out completely, including not funding the vaccuming out of said wombs.

And if those same liberals do want to fund Planned Parenthood abortions privately, more power to them. It is their money and their choice.

We who are against abortions would like to have the same choice NOT to fund them.

Taxpayer dollars do not fund abortions. - Truthseeker

[ In Reply To ..]
Taxpayer dollars do not fund abortions. I am against war, I am against oil companies getting subsidies, I am against my tax dollars going to build new sports stadiums for billionaires..but it happens.

Research shows that every $1 invested in family planning $4 is saved in costs toward Medicaid and other services.

All y'all railing about kids getting fruit and vegetables for school lunch and who have problems with food stamps should be backing title X with vigor. But then a good percentage of 'pro-lifers' could care less about kids once they are out of the womb.

I don't think millions of lives each year are - lost when sports

[ In Reply To ..]
stadiums are built or subsidies given. Geez, what a comparison...human lives, sports stadiums.

Again....seeker of truth...what is YOUR answer? I keep asking, all y'all keep doing is railing about what Republicans want to cut with no suggestions at all about proposed cuts.

I will ask you again...do you think the amount of spending we are doing right now is sustainable? Do you really think we can go on like this?

How about a little personal responsibility? If you aren't going to have kids and take care of them, don't have them. It you don't want to have them, don't have unprotected sex. You aren't going to tell me that over a million abortions a year are the result of rape, incest, or oops the condom broke? GIVE ME A BREAK.

What I would be more in favor of is parenting classes for people who are incapable of making their kid PB sandwich and putting an apple in a sack.
Millions of lives are not lost on taxpayer dime to PP either. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
You tried real hard to miss the point of the OP. Hint: She was not comparing stadiums to human life. Your post should have stopped after "I don't think."

Once again, tax dollars do not fund abortions at Planned Parenthood.
Abortion is taking of human life, and if you - think planned parenthood
[ In Reply To ..]
is diligently separating their federal funds from their "other" funds you are delusional. Medicare fraud is illegal too, but it happens.

And the condescending insults are not necessary, though I realize as a Democrat/liberal you feel compelled to condescend. Does not help your image a bit, but please by all means...
Tax dollars are not needed to fund those services - when
[ In Reply To ..]
funds from private donors cover those expenses. PP has over 700,000 donors who bankroll around 25 percent of their budget: Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Buffett Foundation, Ford Foundation, Ted Turner Foundation, and the Cullmans, to name a few. The Buffett Foundation's contribution are specifically earmarked for abortion services.

Only a very small portion of their rvenues go toward abortion services. Two-thirds of the revenue is put towards health services, while non-medical services get 16%. International family planning programs, fundraising and management expenses account for most of the rest.

Now, where is that hard data to back up your baseless claim?

I did provide hard data that in fiscal year - 2008-2009 they
[ In Reply To ..]
received $363 million dollars in federal funding.

My point is, I don't want to fund it and my tax dollars should not go to fund it. They are an abortion provider, and you know as well as I do they don't segregate which monies come from Bill and Melinda Gates and which monies come from federal grants, etc. It is my right to ask my representatives to stop funding it, just like it is your right to ask your representatives to keep funding it.

I guess you like the evill rich (Bill and Melinda Gates) and the big corporations (Microsoft) when they are putting some of those millions into things you like right...you want the rich to pay more, ask Bill and Melinda to pay my part of Planned Parenthood...and the Ford Foundation...and the Ted Turner Foundation...and good old Warren Buffett. THEY can afford it, the country can't.

You Democrats are really good at talking out both sides of your mouth.

Bottom line, I have rights too, and I don't want to fund an abortion provider in any way shape or form.

Thanks for the "discussion."
But not one ounce of proof that a single penny of that - went for abortions.
[ In Reply To ..]
Nice try but no cigar. The rest of your post merits no response whatsoever.
They provide abortions. They do them. - Therefore they should
[ In Reply To ..]
not get federal funds. Stop providing abortions in their clinics, keep their funding. It is my right as a citizen to protest my tax dollars being spent that way.

You are arrogant beyond words...but you know that. I think you must practice in front of a mirror. lol.
Unfounded accusations do not a viable - political argument make.
[ In Reply To ..]
No proof. No dice. Federal funds do not bankroll abortions at PP.

Sticks and stone may break my bones but buzz words cannot hurt me. PS. No one is questioning your right to protest.
Okay...then you prove to me that federal - money does NOT bankroll
[ In Reply To ..]
abortions at PP. You can't. Bottom line, federal funds should not go to any abortion provider. Period. And that is what they are, an abortion provider. If they stop performing abortions and just limit to referrals, I have no problem with some federal funding. When they are an abortion provider, I have a problem.

Tell you what...cut federal funding and see if they can still perform 300,000 abortions a year and still provide their other services.

Or better yet, put your money where your mouth is and fund it yourself. Without the government forcing you to. Surely Bill and Melinda Gates, the Ford Foundation, Buffett Foundation, and all you liberals who want to make sure abortion service is provided fund it? There are enough of you, aren't there?

No proof. No dice. You cannot prove federal funds are not going for abortion and neither can they unless they have a "fed" bank account and the "other" bank account.

Guess this means you cant back up your own claim, huh? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Where are all the lawsuits against PP for these so-called violations of the Hyde Amendment? If there was ANY way to implicate PP, the tpots would be all over it like white on rice. They cant so they arent, huh? Oh well, you cant win 'em all, canya?

Look, we all know that a smoke-and-mirrors government shutdown over ideological battles is all the GOP is capable of doing, since they do not seem to be able to figure out how to keep it operational without going after middle class working folks and the most vulnerable in our society while subsidizing the wealthiest among us. If you take comfort in believing that this is going to somehow translate into a GOP takeover next year, I wouldnt think of trying to burst that bubble. Keep up the good work.
Are you serious?? When we hear from - the government about
[ In Reply To ..]
government waste and fraud in Medicare, their OWN program, and they can't get a handle on that, you think they are going to watch PP?

All this post is is another t party rant, has no substance, provides nothing other than screaming and foaming at the mouth at the other guy, while the country is going down the tubes financially.

What is it about you people when someone disagrees you start ranting like crazy people but never can counter of have anything positive to offer in replacement of suggested cuts. Which is why the Democrats lost so bad in midterms and while they will lose so bad again in 2012, but I wouldn't think of bursting your bubble either. Please go on.

What the Democrats seem to be incapable of understanding is the DEFICIT. That is THE major reason for the mid-term historic blowout, yet you continue down the same path. Deficit? What deficit? Those nasty child-eating women-hating oil-loving tpots are destroying the world! Yes please, keep on with that. It is SO helpful in our current situation.

As to the Hyde ammendment...that alone should preclude ANY federal dollars going to ANY program which PROVIDES abortions. When they were just a referral for abortions, no conflict of interest. When they became a provider, funds should have been yanked.

And yes, in middle class flyover America where we still have a moral compass that has not gone entirely wonky, and we see the situation of the deficit and know cuts have to be made, an abortion provider who is supposed to be NONprofit tracking up record profits every year DOES NOT NEED our tax dollars, no matter whether they are doing abortions or NOT.

And we will vote accordingly. Thank you so much.
Not all PP clinics provide abortion services. - In NJ - one 1 or 2 do.
[ In Reply To ..]
Your last sentence is ridiculous. Do you know there is such a thing as Raiser's Edge, Quickbooks, etc. Did you know PP charges several hundred $$ for abortion services? Do yourself a favor. Go and volunteer in a nonprofit - any nonprofit - and learn how they keep the books. Don't rely on news articles that provide little if any real information.
Yes, and any software is only as good as - what is put in. GIGO.
[ In Reply To ..]
you continue to ignore the deficit. What are we going to do about the deficit? In the grand scheme of things, PP is a NONprofit who is raking in RECORD profits. For that reason ALONE they should be defunded. It is not like we have all this money laying around in the treasury to give to a NONprofit making RECORD profits. So maybe if we withraw federal funds they will make a little less profit. Is that so HORRIBLE???

Pulleezzeee. If they are charging for the abortions, then the abortions will go right on with no help from the federal government, right?

Exactly why, based on the fact that they charge for abortions, charge for their other services, and are making record profits as a NONprofit, are you so against pulling their funds?

THIS is what is WRONG with the country! THIS kind of wasteful spending is why we have a 13 trillion dollar and growing DEFICIT!

Do you have a calculator??
OH PLEASE...lol. Unfounded accusations - are the staple of the

THIS kind of thing is exactly WHY we have a 13 trillion dollar deficit. We don't have the extra 363 million laying around in the treasury to support a nonprofit who is racking up record PROFITS.

Do you understand?

Agreed. Since 1997 federal tax dollars have not - been used to fund abortions.

[ In Reply To ..]
Ever heard of the Hyde Amendment? The funding they are addressing in this current dialog has nothing to do with abortion...zero, zilch, nada...except as it exists in the imaginations of ill-informed pols (who SHOULD know better) and their supporters...and lots and lots of grandstanding on their behalf, not to mention political posturing for 2012.

It has everything to do with defunding preventative health services such as cancer screening with PAP smears and HPV and breast exams, STD education, screening and treatment, disease prevention, safe sex, birth control education for both men and women (including abstinence), education and counseling services for women's and men's reproductive health, infertility, healthy relationships, sex and sexual health, gender identity and body image. Abortion services provided there (none of which use tax dollars) are by far outweighed by services aimed at pregnancy PREVENTION, and thus, abortion PREVENTION.

federal funding PP gets doesn't go toward abortion? PP's. The fox is in charge of the chicken house. I am sure they keep meticulous books and keep all the federal monies separate from their "other" money.

Unless you can come up with some hard data on that suspicion, pardon us while we delegate it to that steaming pile of unsubstantiated accusations.

On the other hand, it is easy to verify all the services listed in the previous post as ones that the GOP is striving to defund. Visit their website, or better still, one of their locations and inquire about their strides to PREVENT pregnancy and abortions.
Federal funds should not be going to any - private organization
[ In Reply To ..]
who performs abortions and Planned Parenthood DOES perform abortions in their clinics. Every day. It would be impossible to know whether or not federal dollars were being used for those procedures or not. The government should not be in the birth control business period. There are plenty of you liberals out there, right? Fund it privately.
I am afraid that is a matter of opinion. - You simply cannot ignore
[ In Reply To ..]
all the other health services they provide. Federal monies in the form of grants, matching funds, Medicaid and the like are used all the time to provide health care. PP is not the only provider of abortion services. Since it is LEGAL, it is performed in thousands of clinics and hospitals across the country, many of which serve uninsured, underinsured, low income, etc. and, as such, receive federal funds in one form or another. Singling out PP and trying to shut it down is not going accomplish anything except displacement of those they serve to these other facilities. One thing it definitely will not do is stop women from getting abortions, but in the absence of their reliable educational and counseling services, it could very well increase the number of unwanted pregnancies that lead to abortion, along with STDs, HPV, cancer, HIV, etc. IMO, sexually transmitted disease, HIV prevention along with population control are a legitimate PUBLIC health concerns that are perfectly appropriate targets for federal funding.

Keep providing those services, keep funding... - keep performing abortions
[ In Reply To ..]
and lose funding. Simple as that.
As long as it is legal, it is not as simple as all that. - No matter how hard
[ In Reply To ..]
you try to pretend otherwise.
Sure it is, it just does not suit your agenda. - And if the truth be known
[ In Reply To ..]
you wouldn't be supporting them either if the government was taking the money from you and doing it for you. That's how much you care about what Planned Parenthood is doing. So put YOUR money where your mouth is. Apparently there are a lot of liberals in agreement with you, so YOU fund it. Out of your own pocket, your own free will, because it is so important to you. Go ahead, I dare you. If planned parenthood is defunded, let's see how quickly you put your money where your mouth is. Why don't we just experiment and if PP can still do over 300,000 abortions a year without the federal dime.

Your arrogance is really astounding, you know that? lol.
Speaking of arrogance, - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
you seem to be counting your chickens before they hatch. The countdown to shutdown is in part all about people who care passionately about making services such as those provided by PP available to ALL women...so much so, they are willing to shut government down over it. Abortion, though only a small part of what PP does, is legal. Deal with it.

BTW, you know nothing about me, what I do or do not care about and what I would or would not do in any given situation. I have been pro-choice since before abortion was legal, active, have contributed annually to PP for the past 20+ years and participate in their fundraising activities on a regular basis. You have your rights and I have mine, and I exercise them every chance I get. My agenda is to see CHOICE remain legal, accessible and protected from those who would attempt to take it away from women who simply want to preserve their reproductive rights. I do not seek, nor do I need your approval on this.

From where I sit, your assumptions are a function of your own self-righteous indignation, a character trait some might consider to be the height of arrogance.
Okay, answer this one for me. Services - aside, why continue
[ In Reply To ..]
to funnel tax dollars into a nonprofit making record profit when we are running a 13-trillion dollar deficit? They charge for their services, as many have pointed out. If they are making record profits, then put that money the government is giving them toward the deficit instead of ADDING to it.

It is not like we have the $363 million just laying around in the treasury to help them make a profit, which they really should not be making anyway, let alone RECORD ones.

It is THAT kind of wasteful spending that got us into the mess we are in now, and it is supremely stupid to continue doing it. Surely you can agree???

As to arrogance...read your rant, and it has nothing to do with why the arrogance comment was made, and I know you know that.

Planned Parenthood supports abortions and the link proves it - Backwards Typist

the government should not be funding abortion with our tax dollars when a good portion of this country do not agree with/condone/support abortion as a means of birth control or in most any other way. If you as private citizens want to privately fund planned parenthood abortions, more power to you. But I should not be compelled through my tax dollars to support something I find morally repugnant.

I don't think the government should be in womens' wombs either...not to tell them they can't have an abortion, and not to pay for vacuuming out the womb either.

Surely there are enough liberals in the country to find a way to privately fund Planned Parenthood abortions. Hollywood should be able to keep it going for the next several years.

Taxpayer funds do not fund abortions - Truthseeker

Umm no it is not against federal law for PP to give women information on abortion and taxpayer dollars do NOT fund abortions.

Yes, and whose word do we have that - Planned Parenthood does
[ In Reply To ..]
not use the federal funds it receives on abortions? Planned Parenthood's. Yes, it is against the law. So is Medicare fraud. It happens.

In 2009, Planned Parenthood clinics performed 332,278 abortions, according to a fact sheet on the group’s Web site. Also, in fiscal year 2008-2009, Planned Parenthood received more than $363 million in government grants and contracts, including federal taxpayer dollars through Title X family planning provisions.

So, if they did not receive that $363 million in federal funds, chances are they could not have afforded to do over 300,000 abortions and still provide their "other" services. There is more than one way to skin a cat, and I am sure Planned Parenthood is well aware of that. I am sure they don't segregate their "federal" dollars from their "other" dollars. Come ON.

We should not be pouring 363 million dollars into Planned Parenthood. But those of you who support abortion, please feel free to privately donate all the $$ you want.

As you know, she has a new diagnosis with Alzheimer's and am getting her started on coconut oil,  well coconut oil gelcaps, as that was what was available at the store at the time.   Anyway, not a moment too soon.  Just needed to vent a little.  Where to start!  SHE GAVE ALL HER CHRISTMAS PRESENTS FROM ME AWAY!!!!  Her greatest need at this time was warm winter sweaters, sweatshirts, layering pieces like turtlenecks and long-sleeved Tees to wear underneath ...

Just An UpdateAug 06, 2013
I posted a few times on the prayer board about being abused by my sister for as long as I can remember.  Several of you encouraged me to see a therapist, and today was my first visit.   I chose the therapist's name from a list of providers given to me by my insurance company.  I did not know anything about her.  I can say based on our session today that I am extremely pleased.  She is just wonderful.  It was a very difficult session for me, having to give ...

Update On New JobJun 25, 2014
Hi all in MT land: I am here just to stop in and say hi. I had posted awhile back about giving my notice and moving onto a new (and better) job. My last day with my MTSO was Friday the 13th. I started my new job June 9th and stayed on to help finish out the pay period. My last day I posted a message on IM about it being my last day and goodbye everyone kind of thing and didn't hear a peep. Not one message. I don't care, it's not like I was expecting anything, but not even one m ...

Another Update On MeMay 18, 2016
Well, my legs and ankles are mostly normal now. I think I lost 10-15 pounds and took finally four Torsemide two morning and two in afternoon to do it. I have diastolic heart failure and that plus my low potassium threw me into a bad spell with swelling that would not go down. I do feel some better though. I still have the hives and now they are really bothering me badly. I went to the drug store and finally got some CVS brand Allegra 180 mg. I found reviews saying it was good for hives since ...

Liberals Lose Their Cool In The Supreme Court Fight Over ObamacareNov 18, 2014
On Nov. 7, the Supreme Court said it would entertain the latest legal assault on President Obama’s health-reform program. Leading liberal analysts worry—reasonably—that the justices will cripple Obamacare. Unfortunately, these defenders of the program are making their case by preemptively accusing right-leaning members of the high court of bad faith and rank partisanship. Paul Krugman of Princeton and the New York Times has has called the argument that a sy ...

American Indians Fight For Land Rights Against Obama's ExecutiveDec 29, 2016
Betty Jones, an elderly Navajo medicine woman, grew up among the red rock canyons, mesas, and ancient cliff dwellings of Southeastern Utah. Now, a proposed national monument may prevent her from collecting traditional herbal medicines she’s gathered all her life. Her family believes Jones is in her mid-nineties, since her birth certificate was issued after her actual birth. The proposed 1.9-million-acre Bears Ears National Monument would potentially limit her access to sacred sites and impa ...

Update On New Profession ..... SMJan 30, 2012
Hi everyone, I am the one who posted a few weeks ago about going for the job with my State as a dispatcher. Good news!!!!! I had my polygraph today and I PASSED, lol. Yes, I was nervous, of course, because I realize that these are not 100% accurate but I decided ahead of time to just take a deep breath, be completely honest and it worked. I am so excited and hoping (with the way things are going) to be out of this field before the end of February (or earlier, hopefully). I believe that the ...

Another Update On New ProfessionApr 11, 2012
Well, it has been a month, short of 5 days, that I walked away from the medical field and medical transcription after over 23 years.  I have to say that it has been the best thing that I have done for myself and my family in forever.  The work schedule is a little screwy (dispatcher for law enforcement) but with no small kids and my husband already in law enforcement for 27 years, it has been adaptable for us.  The first week was spent becoming certified on state and national comm ...
