in what order might you do this

If you were an IC and depended on your husband for health insurance and were thinking of divorce... Would you try to get a full-time job outside of the MT field with benefits before you filed for divorce? Would you file for divorce shortly after obtaining that job, say after your probation period, and go through divorce proceedings while still learning a new job? Would you find a new job and be in it for a while (how long?) before filing for divorce? Would you keep the job you have now as a means of normalcy for kids, file for divorce and get things settled and back to as normal as possible after the divorce before trying to find a full-time job away from home? There are 2 teenagers involved, no physical abuse, alcohol is a major factor, working from home for 10+ yrs. TIA

I would think that with 2 kids, keeping medical benefits should be part of the divorce settlement. You shouldn't have to change jobs just for benefits if you like what you're doing. Got a good lawyer?

Agree that kids should continue to be covered under hubby's insurance, but not me. Also, with the MT field so unstable and accounts being lost left and right, as an IC if I lose any or all of my accounts, I have no income and get no unemployment. That is a concern as well since I've lost a couple accounts already to VR. No work from sick days, holidays, or NJA, etc. = no $. A full-time employee job would at least provide some stability in that sense, but no matter what job a person has, it can be lost in a second for whatever reason.

Boy I could have written this myself except for the alcohol part. I have been working from home for 7 years. I just started taking classes at a local college for a certificate in a medical office. I am hoping I can transition into a medical office in some capacity. I know the pay might not be the greatest, but hopefully I would have benefits.
