claims in these hard times.
Good news, though, for those who like to think we are for the most part good, industrious people. The top 2 types of fraud, which account for most of the overpayment, are committed by...working people.
1. Person on unemployment gets that new job but delays reporting it. You know, typically behind on their bills from being out of work so collect another check to help out. Whatever you think of this form of taking care of oneself--these are working people, not slugs trying to live off the system.
2. Person works part time "under the table" while receiving benefits and doesn't report income. Again, these are working people between jobs, not lazy moochers. Our son's friend was hired by his uncle to help dig wells while he looked for a new accounting position. He said it was the hardest work he'd ever done, and the pay way too low, but with a baby on the way and no insurance he was very glad to have it.
